Ummmm.. Huge Difference..

WTF? Why isn't it covered?

I literally received this 14 days ago so I'm really angry...

----------

And how much does it usually cost to fix?

How much does it cost to fix? I called Apple tech. support, and they didn't know nor knew it was covered or not?

Umm.. There is a HUGE Difference between WARRANTY and INSURANCE.. you would have needed 'moron insurance' to cover such an act.. It does exist, but likely too expensive as well, or The Deductible would be quite high..

Hope it works out better than it appears it might, the first 'dent' hurts..

Apple should offer an Apple Care + for all the macs. 3 years of limited warranty and up to 6 accidental claims each $800 :)

Im late but I dropped mine and there was a HUGE dent. Luckily, it was the 14th day I bought it so I promptly took it back to the store. Returned less the restocking fee and purchased a new one. :)

That's pretty lame. The store shouldn't have let you return it in that condition. Consider yourself lucky.

Did you tell them about the dent or did you cover it up?

I believe the correct term for what you did is fraud. And when Apple looks at the computer and finds the dent they could well charge you for it and they should.

This is fraud, plain and simple.

How is it fraud? He wasn't talking about getting dents fixed by Apple for free, he was just detailing a way to get the condition of your machine (including dents) officially recorded.

That way if a few months later something unrelated to the dents fails, it can still be fixed under warranty because you have proof that the laptop worked fine even after it got dented.

If you didn't do that, a problem completely unrelated to the dents could be refused to be fixed by Apple because they don't know whether the same accidental damage caused the problem.

It IS fraud when you have to lie to get something documented in your favor. The poster had to claim that he inherited the MBP (he didn't) and reported a problem (speaker output?) that he didn't really have. He even stated himself that this was a ethically questionable action. If this isn't fraud why not just tell the truth?

Irrelevant. If you have to lie to get the coverage you want, that's fraud. Period.

I wouldn't be so fast here.
a) he didn't return it to an apple store, at least not in the US. They don't charge restocking fees
b) The store probably asked for an ID and the home address, so they are able to contact him if/when they discover the defect
c) If they are too lazy to even quickly inspect the returned goods (the usually are...) it's not the consumers fault
d) unlikely, but maybe he actually told them about the problem and they were fine with it, as long as he paid the restocking fee

Still, I would be worried if I was aquadisiac. I think damaged items are not eligible for returns. Once they discover the problem, they might demand that he takes the unit back

No, I hid it with the obviosuly bent corner and they took it back and sold it to someone else with the dent.

How much is the restocking fee?

10% They were pretty nice about it and I called to ask the supervisor before taking. That was the only other option or spend about $500 for the repair.

You could have avoided all the flames and comments if you had simply mentioned this in your original post. Not anyone's fault but yours if others misconstrue your actions because you chose to leave out pertinent details.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic.

Either way, they don't just put it back on shelves. It goes through a screening process and then gets necessary parts refurbished. The laptop then goes back on the market as a refurbished unit.

I didnt know I was supposed to explain my post to you. I must be filling out a police report.

It was sarcasm, GenuisJon.
