When did that happen? Stock is down about the same percentage as the entire market due to fears about rising bod yields. This story has had zero effect on the stock, hasn’t scared anyone, nor has it damaged anyone’s reputation. Anyone with an IQ higher than a cucumber’s could tell this story is crap by the second paragraph.
SuperMicro's stock dropped 44%.

If the story is true than the companies lied to protect their business interests. If it is not true than those behind were going to profit from such a story such as either stealing market share from the affected companies and/or buying stock of the affected companies.

There’s literally no evidence it is true, and tons of evidence that it is false. Among the most compelling arguments against it being true is that it’s so technically infeasible as to border on impossible.
How dare you criticize the press. Are you a Trump supporter? /s

SuperMicro's stock dropped 44%.
And I’m sure somebody is smiling.

Finally, even if true, it’s in the best interest of everyone involved to protect their brand and if real downplay it significantly or state there were mitigating controls in place that would prevent said vulnerability from being exploitable.

For Apple, the more annoying and possibly more embarrassing issue is that these news reports are getting more people interested in knowing what Apple really uses in their data centers. Customers want to know that the company selling you their products actually uses those products themselves: that they "eat their own dog food". Most people probably think that Apple's data centers are all filled with Mac Minis running macOS Server. Previously, Apple has been able to keep quiet but now it appears these reports may result in a lot more public exposure to what is really in those data centers. Apple probably does not want to be put in the position of having to explain why the trillion dollar Mac maker would use anything other than Mac server computers running macOS Server in those huge data centers all over the world.

“Most people?”

Most people have never heard of the Mac mini and most people don’t give a crap what servers Apple uses. Most people don’t even know there are servers.

Only if you're a narcissist and think you know more than all professional media.
It's about them being dishonest, not incompetent.

But still, news outlets have many writers, and not all of them can always properly research what they write about. There are plenty of articles on computer technology that show the writer is clearly misinformed, which I can tell because that's my field.

I mean where’s the evidence? I think Tronald Dump phoned in some ******** tip, this guy has to go. He’s totally trying to build a fake case against China to offset the Russia saga. Why would you want to piss China off?

I have faith in the DHS to tell us, the American public, because they have the biggest and best things on earth.

Newsmen (news-officers! Everyone is an OFFICER now) are always more important than the news - how else will we know what news to trust.

There is no stealth incorporated hardware spying in the civilized Western world! I know because the experts have thoroughly investigated it before reassuring the civilians via press-releases!

Only China, and even then only SuperMicro with SuperMicro-made components, is attempting to spy on the world! Now that they are not FOUND in any Apple or other computer components, we know that there is no spying of any kind happening via hardware.

Major news journalists (even from scum Bloomberg) frequently investigate spying rumors with no basis, and are always writing articles with "facts" pulled out of the air and following it up with flimsy or unprovable evidence because spies are transparent with their methods once the investigators have breached the first layer of a coverup.

I am happy the world is safe - the Patriot Act and the Drumpf administration are the bigglyiest safe-guard there ever is/was on earth.

That’s a ridiculous argument, because it’s like Microsoft having to explain why they use Linux on some back end systems instead of Windows..

I don’t think the public will care less and the majority won’t understand it anyway, and those that do won’t care because they’ll know OSX isn’t a viable solution for large scale data centres.

This whole story could easily have some truth in it, I don’t think the security services tell people even a quarter of the state hacking that goes on, because they themselves are hacking everyone else just as much...

The problem is that fake news about fake news gets true at the point nobody believes it anymore

Seriously?? If some entity actually pulled this off, you believe they’re clever enough to do it but stupid enough to still think Apple has no idea just because they’re publicly saying so now?

If the USA denies it then either they believe it or not. If the USA confirms it then they know for sure they’ve been caught. The rational thing to do is deny.

Plus, if the USA confirms it, there will be public outrage (possibly). Then the politicians have to worry about placating their constituencies. This would make foreign policy more difficult.

I’m not saying it’s right, there are positives and negatives either way, but the smart thing to do is deny—unless the US government WANTS to arouse anger at these entities (and China).

This isn’t politics buddy.

"Information and communications technology supply chain security is core to DHS's cybersecurity mission...." - Yes, software hacking (think, Russian meddling) but not the design alterations of complex motherboard schematics in foreign manufacturing facilities.

"...Just this month – National Cybersecurity Awareness Month – we launched several government-industry initiatives to develop near- and long-term solutions to manage risk...." -
Interesting that DHS just issued this statement and not the Director of National Intelligence (DNI). DHS was created as a result of 9/11 and slowly integrated into the national intelligence network of 17 other government security agencies. DHS would be the last agency I'd want to handle hardware specific espionage issues. Additionally, overseas motherboard manufacturing has been in place long before 9/11.

I read this as sarcasm.
