There is no guarantee Apple will even release an upgrade in 2017.. I read somewhere, and from a reputable source that we not not see another upgrade until 2018 due to compatible CPU release schedules..
+1. No one knows s**t. I've heard conflicting reports. I also know what it's like to wait for an Apple upgrade as I was waiting for a MBA update for 2 years, which never came. I can understand @i'mnewhere 's dilemma. It IS a pretty nice new toy, but if you're playing the value/money game, you will lose on this one. This is a first gen that is priced accordingly. If value/money is at the top of your list AND you want the '16 version, I would wait until refurbs or used start coming out into the market. You won't pay the upcharge and it will be hundreds less.

That being said, I plan on keeping mine at least 3 or 4 years, and over the course of that time, the incremental money doesn't really matter. Saving $100 here or there is less relevant over time, especially if you ENJOY or are PRODUCTIVE with it for 3 or 4 years. But if money is the top thing, don't do it. Go refurb in a 6 months or a year. No matter what you buy (new), if you flip in a year, you get the hardest financial loss.

I only mentioned the '16 as you are apparently set on getting the best value for the '16 model and not earlier versions. Good call IMHO.

You're definitely going to take a hit bigger than you want because of the early adopter upcharge. If you plan on getting a tb next year, I don't know why you're waiting. You will take a bigger hit flipping a computer in one year. Those things you mention may or may not happen. The only thing that's guaranteed is a price drop ($200ish?) if you want a tb get it. Don't believe all the nonsense you read.

the only reason im waiting is that the TB is just not worth the 2-3 hour battery difference - and thats the only reason Id consider upgrading.

The TB will always have less battery life than the non. It has a higher power CPU (30w vs. 15w), has the TB oled screen to power, and it has a 10% smaller battery. I don't think next year will change this much. If you're talking about battery life "issues" in general, this is a software thing. This will be fixed, but you also need to remember that the TB will always have the potential to drain faster because of that CPU compared to non-TB. But that also comes with potential to be faster. Trade offs depend on what you value more. Point is, these differences between the two are unlikely to change in the next refresh.

ive been waiting since 2011 for a MBA replacement so its seems this is thevtime to buy...

but yeah who knows what offerings will be in the next release - they could go ALL touchbar on us

I heard that there will be, in less than 5 years, models without keyboards which have top tier AI and voice recognition. They will work on a system called Dictation Integration Calibration Kinetics, but Apple will call the new laptops DICK for short.

Initially the DICKs will be available with no keyboard, but have a larger and more complex Touch Bar. The will be called DICK TOUCH, which of course Apple will offer in two sizes. Apple expects to see high volume with the small Dicks in some markets, with larger Dick Touch models selling in the USA. Special Apple Care programs were already leaked which read, "Apple Care for Your Dick" and these will cost less than current AC programs because keyboard issues are typically 30% of all repairs.
