Exactly!
I won' t!

It will give apple the chance of charging:
-16 gb 4 inch iPhone 7: 649 us
-16 gb 4,7 inch: 749 us
-16 gb 5,5 inch: 849 us

I rather have the 16gb 4.7 inch at 649 us.
and have them release a 4 inch a year later that is cheaper.

Only, there's not going to be a 4 inch iPhone 7

I love the iPhone 5 design, so I'd be happy to see the new 4'' iPhone with a similar look.
I'm not going to buy a 4'' phone, but I miss the time when I run my iPhone 5 naked and absolutely loved the design and the grip it provided me.
And no protruding camera please

Yeah, but now any illusion that you paid less is gone. Believe it or not, I've come across many (and I mean many) people who thought they were saving a few hundred dollars by signing up for a 2 year "subsidized" plan. Now they add up xx per month for 18 or 24 months and don't like the amount that adds up to. One guy said to me recently, there's no way I'm paying that for a new iPhone ($750). He's pissed off that he can't get his iPhones for only $300.

Exactly.

People used to go for the "free" iPhone for the exact same reason. They really believed the carrier was giving them a free iPhone. How nice of them! :)

You and I know it was actually "no money today... but you WILL pay $450 for this 'free' iPhone"

In the case of your friend... did you explain to him that his $300 was only a down-payment and that he actually paid the other $450 over the course of two years?

You're right... it was absolutely an illusion. It was clever trickery that the US carriers did for the last 20 years.

So why did they get rid of contracts and subsidies? It was working so well... but now people are losing their minds.

I think it all started with T-Mobile and their "uncarrier" movement. They said "No more contracts!" And people cheered. Eventually all the major carriers started doing this.

People didn't like being "locked in a contract"

But now they don't like "paying for a phone"

Well folks... one of those things has gotta happen! (and it always did... they were paying for the phone anyway)

So will carriers will backtrack and start offering the "illusion" again?

Like I said... nothing has really changed. Your friend will pay the $750 eventually... either by a large down-payment with other "hidden" payments inside his bill... or no-money-down and a "non-hidden" $31 a month.

It's six-of-one... half-dozen-of-another.

This is going to be tough because I bought the 6, used it for a year, and went back to a 5S because I love the smaller size / one handedness of the phone.

What Apple needs to do is start focusing on making the phones smaller with the same screen size. A 4.7 inch screen should be able to fit in an iPhone not much bigger than the iPhone 5/5s.

Hell, some 5,5 inch Android phones are closer to iPhone 6 than the iPhone Plus in size.

I think the biggest trickery (or fraud!!?) is when US carriers didn't reduce a monthly bill when the device was out of contract. That made it seem like the phone really was only $200 or free or whatever because there was absolutely no differentiation between a contract plan price and out of contract. Also, I do believe one of the biggest differences is the fact that US doesn't have as many carriers / choices as say Europe. US customers don't necessarily care about contracts or not because they are not switching carriers often. I'm just speaking from my own opinion and experiences though.

Now, they are doing the relative same but saying only $xx a month so I believe people in the US are used to paying a high monthly bill and still aren't associating phone costs as being so high. I think that will slowly change more and more when people have one of the latest phones and realize they can dramatically drop their phone bill price by not upgrading.

Maybe a 4.2 or 4.3 higher resolution (OLED) screen can fit in the iPhone 5S body if they trim the bezel to reach the edges of the facade.

Same hand girth, better screen - Samsung's Edge has Apple already beat on this, painful for me say so, I love the iOS and Apple's hardware!

Took to Apple since 1993 - loved what they gave me access to at work. 6 PCs, 3 Macs, 6 iPhones (3 to 6S) today's count!

I still find the design of a 5C way more hand-friendly with its smooth curves & lack of sharp edges. Looking forward to seeing what the new phone really looks like.
