Microsoft was well aware the only way they would get people to try the metro interface on their desktop machines was to force it down their throats.

8.1 should be bringing back the start button i think

Listening to coast to coast tonight. Someone just said that a picture of a rose is beautiful.

The word ROSE doesn't have the same impact i think.

The Start button but not the start menu. I think people are thinking that they will be able to relegate Metro to an optional shell and that is not likely to happen. Who knows though, if things to do not improve on the uptake Windows 9 may look a lot like Windows 7.

Still, i believe that MS is committed to the tiles and that way of UI and will continue to try ways to motivate its users to accept it.

I was always a bit surprised that Windows 8 did not essentially become an improved Windows 7 and that their Tablet and Phone OS became one in the same.

Eventually as the world became mobile they could then make their desktop more like it. That would likely be too close to the Apple strategy for their comfort and they wanted to lead and not follow.

I give them points for being brave.
