Hi, thanks for that; interesting. I wonder why I had never heard of 'pre' as in 'pre-order' until a few years ago, and, let's say you are right in your defn, it IS still used in ridiculous place such as pre- ordering theatre interval drinks.
I don't see anything wrong in expecting good, clear English in written commuunications. The biggest mistake is in the mis- use of the possessive apostrophe, such as loco's, dvd's, phone's and yet writing the shorter version of 'let us' as lets rather than let's. Perhaps I'm getting old....
Perhaps I know have more in common with your ex- teacher than I would ever have thought.
