no truth in review times always going up. apple has always scaled the staff up and down by using contractors along with their full time employees (especially during the holidays)
Maybe it takes longer just cause they're pickier and ask for changes more often. Makes sense that it'd become that way over time. Also it's what I've experienced personally, but I only dabbled in iOS dev.

I’ve been fortunate that most of my Windows apps have have not had any compatibtaity issues with Windows for years.
Well, yeah! There's a famous QA video with Steve Jobs where a dev berates Jobs for cancelling whatever the old app framework was, and Jobs gives a great answer about why it had to be done... but I think he was wrong. Devs have always liked Windows much more, which is why things are made for Windows, which is why people use Windows.

And btw, Jobs was my favorite CEO/founder. I just think he was wrong that time.

landlord: hey I need you to move into a new house.
Me: ok, when?
Landlord: Tomorrow... I’m not sorry....

Typical of Timmy Cook's Apple. Shoot first, ask questions....meh....whenever

Any developer caught off guard by this release only has himself/herself to blame. They had plenty of time to work with the betas and Apple announced yesterday’s event weeks ago. With the increase of frequency of beta releases, it was OBVIOUS that the full release was going to happen at the event yesterday. If you are a developer and weren’t ready, suck it up and admit it’s your own fault.

LOL What? iOS14 has been available to developers since June...
It's like being told a volcano will erupt tomorrow and then when tomorrow comes saying "Why didn't you tell me?!" when you see it smoking and blowing earth all over the place.

Everything he said is true.

Otherwise you get a load of **** from users about things not working, and remember that apps can be business critical as well, not only for fun.
Yeah, I spoke to that in another reply. I totally agree, Apple, developers & end users should get enough time to make sure everything works day 1. My main gripe is how many people confuse NEED it on day 1 versus WANT it on day 1.

I have a slow connection and I’m sick of updates in general. Like half my installed apps update every other day and literally nothing changes.

In a way I’m happy to see people finally pays attention to developers.

Coding and writing apps, fixing bugs was never an easy task yet users often take it for granted. It’s just way more than just a 30 sec update on client side when fixing everything could take days or more if you’re talking about an independent/very small groups of developers.

Let’s hope we do appreciate what we get after this and not forgetting the effort developers devoted into apps in less than 24 hours. :\

What a bunch of whiners. Do people not realize developing for Apple is not the only career choice in the entire world? I realize complaining about the last minute notice on Twitter is not a super big deal, but lots of these same developers have been complaining for years about "Apple this" and "Apple that" and "30% developer fees" and a bunch of other stuff. If you don't like developing for iOS, then don't do it. And if there are legitimate issues, tell Apple, not the whole world.

You just told that to the whole world rather than telling that to each developer...maybe look in the mirror? LOL

If, as a developer, your app isn’t ready for iOS 14, it is your own fault. The beta is going on for a while for a reason. You do have access to the beta code and you should have been testing it on the newer environment. It never is supposed to be a night and day change shift should you had done your homework. Bugs might show up if you use obscure or undocumented features, but anything not falling onto such categories, or a tremendous bad luck, it is again you being lazy.

I had all my apps ready in between iOS 14 Betas 2 and 3, and afterwards it was just a matter to recompile them and run my compatibility, validation and regression tests. It was iOS14 GM ready before I went to bed last night and it is already online for users to download.

Don’t blame Apple for what you could had done yourself.

You got lucky, you had no way to tell that a final version of iOS14 would not have broken any of your test in a way in which you'd still be working on the problem now. You can't take one anecdotal experience and apply to an entire platform.

LOL What? iOS14 has been available to developers since June...
Release the app when it's ready. What's the ****ing problem?
Pfff I’m not upset I’ve had plenty of time since iOS 14 beta 1... Not Apples fault you are frustrated/not caught up yet. Look at how your teams/business handles SDLC instead

No, betas change all the time, it's not realistic for a business to update something that may change again and again and again, especially when every other release has had substantial lead time between GM/RC and release.

I have an iPhone X purchased in 2017, I have always updated iOS without doing Restore, I have never encountered problems or slowness, even with iOS 14 also installed in Beta.

I ask you, with iOS, do you benefit a lot from doing a clean Restore in terms of speed and more?

For example, formatting macOS yes, but with iOS I never experienced if there is a gain in doing Restore instead of Update.

Maybe some developers shouldn’t wait until the very last moment.

I understand the frustration but also just deal with it. Get to work and stop whining on twitter.

You obviously don't know anything about development or Apple development specifically if you think this has anything to do with "developers waiting until the last moment". Hint: It's not the developers fault at all and you have no clue what a GM is, its significance, or the fact that you can't even submit an update until the GM seed hits.

As a developer: what was the reason?

No clue. I'm not on that team and they're not taking questions at the moment, they're trying to rush out a fix. I'll update if I find out.
