I've noticed that my Ridge will trigger the sleep/awake in book mode if shifted like the pic below. Can you replicate this on yours and does the FitFolio do this?

For those who have this particular issue, I may have a solution.

Although I have yet to experience this issue, it may have to do with the way I use book mode initially:

Instead of taking the flap and bending it behind the the case (as you would with a real book/magazine cover, I allow the iPad to bend inside, so that the back of my case is actually touching the velvet like material internally.

Some pics to clarify:

I initially did this, because when using the other method for book mode and having to set the device down for a second, the velvet material was now touching the surface (allowing to get dirty etc.). This way it is not, and will avoid the magnet issue all together since the magnets are on the other side now. Plus I love how quick I put the device into book mode this way.

They have the fit-folio at target in Alhambra, CA. Looks nice but I want to wait for a few reviews before buying.

Thanks for the tip. I picked up the last one.

So now I have both devicewear and the speck.

My initial impression is that the overall quality is higher than the ridge. The stitching lines up well, the leather is smooth on the front cover unlike the ridge where you will see bumps on the front, the weight is 231g compared to ridge at 272g, the inside is velvet material same as ridge, the ridge is more stable in the view position due to the longer grooves, the speck does not have proble in book mode causing the iPad to sleep.

I will try to take some pics later but overall I like the case and I think I will be returning my ridge because of the sleep mode issue I'm having and its annoying that the cover shifts when in book mode.

thanks for the picture! and yes I too don't like having the inner material touch the surface, which is why I don't care for many of the cases that allows such a thing (smart cover, yoobao, STM, etc) and seriously looking at the canvas, ridge, fitfolio, summit, and roocase.

judging by all the replies here and in canvas thread, it so far seems to be
FitFolio > Ridge > Canvas
no idea where the iFrogz Summit and Roocase Dualview fit into this

So I have noticed some differences so far between the two.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1334512197.923601.jpg You can see here that as far as thickness goes they are very similar, with maybe the Speck being a hair thinner.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1334511600.914494.jpg Here you can see the differences in the angle in the most propped up position between the Speck and the Devicewear. I actually like how the Speck is almost at like an 80 degree angle compared to the other case here in the same position. This makes for better viewing in my opinion when laying in bed and having it on my stomach, as the angle is better.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1334511832.905398.jpg Here you can see the Speck lying in book mode. Because of the plastic clip, it does not lay totally flat. This does not bother me at all however. Also like others mention, the flap does not seem to shift up and down when folded back like the devicewear version tends to do. And no accidentally triggering the on/off feature in book mood either, like with the devicewear. (I saw the other recommendation about folding the devicewear back in the other direction which I had been doing, but I don't really like this either as it gives you an uneven fold and the case sort of sticks out from the beneath the iPad on the right hand side. You can see this in the other posters pictures above.)

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1334512379.802739.jpg. I have also noticed that the cutouts for the buttons on the Speck seem to be a bit better. The edges are sort of tapered making it easier to fit your finger in there to power on/off or turn the volume up/down.

All in all both are great cases. I wish my Target had the black one in stock so I could compare directly, but no such luck.

I haven't received my Ridge yet from Amazon so I decided to call Target on the availability of the FitFolio. They had a black and the flowered pink, perfect! One for me and one for my wife. So far I'm pretty impressed. I really like the front clasp and how the flap folds back flat. I'm going to send my Poetic cases back to Amazon and refuse the shipment on the Ridge when it gets here. IMHO, $40 is a lot to spend on this case though.

By name. The 1st target store wasn't real sure what to call it but said he had one in "lilac". I couldn't find anything lilac on speck's website. Eventually I found a store about 20 miles away that knew what I was talking about and held them for me. Specks part number on the black is SPK-A1186. The UPC is 875912023900.

Does anyone have more pictures of the black FitFolio? Are you satisfied with it? Might bite the bullet tonight.
Here's a few.

Ureka, went into another local Target today and they had the black. Picked it up and I am liking it. Much more professional than the plaid. ;-).

Overall I stick by what I said before. These two cases are very close. I really like the magnet closure of the Ridge, but I think they made these just a bit too powerful and it triggers the sleep function far too easily in "book mode". The Speck had the clasp closure instead, avoiding the stronger magnets, and therefore there is no issue.

The material and workmanship of the two are very close. Both are actually very good I think. It is really a draw there.

I think either one is a good choice, but for me I am probably going to go with the Speck FitFolio as the magnet issue with the Ridge is really annoying me.

anyone got your speck case from target, would you mind post your area/state?

anyone from NC got speck case? I have been calling and even drove to two stores but no luck?

I thought Target is national store. If they have in one store, should other stores have it too? They don't pick which store should have, do they?

Fitfolio - target

I picked up the FitFolio in a Chicago target yesterday for $39. They also had the MagFolio lounge in stock. I posted a video review of the fitfolio for anyone interested ...

if you call, some targets have no idea that they have it. give them this number and ask them to search on computer: 057000595

though it does not tell what color. they have to physically check.

Awesome review, just what ive been looking for! The fact it slips out of the bottom 2 positions was more than enough to stop me from buying it, thanks.

YeAh I have noticed this with the black one I got today as well. It slips out of the last position (the most reclined). The Ridge definitely does not do that. It is very stable in all the angles. :(

Edit: now I went back and tried the plaid one as well and it is the same. It slips out of that last position as well with a simple tap on the screen. Don't really know why I did not notice that before. The Devicewear Ridge really trumps the FitFolio in this regard here.

Using the number I posted above, I was able to confirm my local target have it. It is still in the back warehouse. They said they only have freshbloom pink/black one. I drove to the store anyway even though I want black. When they went to the back and pull out freshbloom and black colors.

Very satisfied with speck product:
1) good quality
2) thin profile
3) multiple landscape positions and stable on non-flat surface
4) smart on/off feature (which was missing from iPad 2 version)
5) no effort to close or stand , unlike many other cases
6) since the back is not fully covered, heat can escape easier.

Cons:
1) last two positions are not firm due to short grove, since the back is not fully covered.
2) two corners that hold iPad top left and bottom left corners are thin and can be broken easily

I actually returned the Fit Folio after receiving the Devicewear Ridge. I like the Ridge way more than the Fit. The Ridge looks and feels better, it has more viewing angles and is more stable. I especially like the typing mode on this case.

Agree 100% on this.

kdoug-any issues with the sleep/awake function? Either when it's closed or when it's in book mode?
