Why don't we all wait to see what happens when we get our iPhones and actually start to use them?

- Maybe we won't get close to 200Mb.

- Maybe we'll all go way over it which will force O2 to re-think their plans.

- Maybe O2 will wait to see what happens after a few months to the average amount of EDGE usage per user.

And I'm sure you could find bad tales about all the mobile providers. I just genuinely don't understand where all this hatred towards O2 is coming from when none of us have actually used the product or the service yet. How do people get so upset about something they've only read about, not to mention the assumptions being made about what happens if you breach the FUP in the first place?

I'm also assuming that all the people up in arms about this have also complained to their ISPs about their FUP and how it affects your download limits with them?

Its just depressing to read so much negativity on here about a new product in so many threads.

i have been using an iphone here in the uk on o2 for about a week now. i have used 60MB over EDGE, and all this is just browsing websites. and one youtube video.

So that's OK then isn't it? Average that up and you'll be at 240Mb over 4 weeks (or thereabouts) which I'm sure will be fine under the FUP.

So what's the problem?

While I don't doubt your experience, I'm sure you could find a substantial number of people who have received poor service from any of the mobile carriers, e.g. my wife who tried for about 3 months to get a faulty handset repaired by Orange and eventually gave up. They're all as bad as each other IMHO.

  • Orange haven't given me any hassle in years, but their 'unlimited data', at 30mb per month, is just sh*te.
  • Vodafone were horrific, and cancelled my account without reason, or warning
  • O2 are another story....

I last had an O2 contract in 2003. It ended abruptly when they charged me for in excess of £500 worth of calls during a seven day period - international roaming from Brazil. This came as quite a surprise, as I've never been to Brazil - and in fact, at the time, I was in New York. I didn't even have roaming enabled.

Despite this, they would not remove these charges, to the point where I filed claims against them (the money had come out of my account via Direct Debit while I was returning to the UK), with the intention to sue.

It took me six months to get the money back - but they did repent eventually (when faced with proper legal action).

My view of O2 since then hasn't been great, obviously. I won't go back to them for all the tea in China.

They're all bad, but they're not as bad as O2 in my opinion.

I too am glad to hear that not much will happen once you go over the 200MB limit but I just don't think it's right that they are calling it unlimited and then saying the fair use is 200MB. I completely understand a fair use policy on anything which is suggested as unlimited but for a phone which has amazing internet capabilities this just doesn't seem enough.

If they will let u go up to 500MB before they do anything then why not have the fair use at 500MB instead of 200MB? If and when you reach 500MB then they inform you and if you continue to abuse it then they start to do something.

I don't actually care too much what they call it. What I care about is what the limit actually is. And 200MB _per month_ on Edge is definitely not enough. It is actually ridiculously low. It is 6.7 MB per day. And iPhone lets you connect to Youtube or however you spell it. So how far does 6.7MB per day get you? Or take the Mac Leopard introduction video. Watch it and your "fair use" quote for two weeks is gone. That is ridiculous.
