I only get AppleCare on my Macs, not my iDevices

I only got Applecare on my Mac as well. Not on my iPad or 4S.

No reason really. It's just that the Mac was my first Apple product so I said it's well worth it. And I'm still covered for my Mac.

I've never purchased AppleCare for any of my apple things. Never had a problem with needing extra warranty, knock on wood.

The main reason I'm getting it is the extended phone support. Living 75 miles away from the nearest Apple Store means that if something goes wrong and I need help, it's a long and expensive trip over there.

I bought it. $50 to replace it if I break it is worth it to me considering my line of employment and my hate of bulky cases, that isn't a good combo for the long term health of a device made of glass. I'll break it at least once if not twice in the next year.

I have Best Buy's Geek Squad protection on it. I can break the phone as many times as I want and never have a deductible. It's always treated me well. I pay for 2 years up front so it's a bit of a break over paying for it monthly.

AC+ seems like an ultra waste of money. Basically, you save $50 if you break it.
Depends. It's for two years of coverage, and includes two "breaks" at $49/each.

So the first break costs saves you $50, and the second break saves you $150.

I've never bought Applecare for an iPhone. Only got it once for an iPod and stopped after that for good.

Only my Macs get that privilege and thats if i really like them and plan on keeping them for a while.

The main reason I'm considering getting it is because I'm afraid they will no longer be doing the $200 out-of-warranty replacements. What do you guys think the likelihood of this is?

Next to nothing. If anything, they've improved the program: all models used to be a flat $200. Now only the 4S is $200, and the other models (4, 3GS, etc.) are $150 OOW.

Haven't bought applecare since my first ibook. Didn't need it then and havent needed it since through many more macs later. Its called learning to take care of your S*it ;)

When I asked a staff at an Apple retail store today whether I should/could buy AppleCare in the foreign country I am taking my iPhone to (that's where I am most likely to need repairs), she replied "but you get 1 year international warranty anyway...".

Was she implying it is not worth it?

I have yet to every keep any of my iPhones for more than 10-11 months (have owned all 5 generations).

So buying extended warranty is really useless to me. Plus I am super safe with my iPhone.

When I got out to places like the beach I usually just put my sim into an old flip phone. (I have microsim adapter).

My wife I worry a lot more about. She's careless with her iPhone. Somehow her last iPhone 4 survive pouring a smoothie over it. Overheated it on the radiated stove top melting the bumper, repeatlydropping it while drunk at a concert on cement, slamming the phone down again the ceramic tile in our home when she was pissed. Not a single scratch or any activated water sensors and we still managed to resell for $300.

Need clarification on this point.

I thought if one damages the phone and you did not have applecare+ you could buy another phone but it would be retail, not $199

Was told this by a Samsung Galaxy S II Sprint employee, if I did not have the insurance and broke the phone I would have to buy it again at retail since the first phone was locked into the original contract.

Thanks.....

Why are we talking about a Samsung. i was talking about an iPhone with no warranty.:)

Me and it was working fine and still is even though its now nearly 4 years old (macbook)

I was mentioning Sprint with the Samsung cell phone that I had for one day (Returned it), and if I destroyed it without the drop/spill coverage, I would have to fork over the full retail price for another one. That would be over $600 bucks, not cheap.

I wanted to know if iPhone was the same when I purchase it later, since I read that if ones is out of warranty or does not have the drop/spill coverage they can just pay $199.00 for a new one and not pay full retail, which was odd to me. That is why the question was asked. ;)

Just curious on how many people did?

I'll likely upgrade every year anyway. Plus in the off chance something out of warranty does happen it costs $250 for a replacement.

I don't really understand AC as opposed to AC+. I just rarely see situations where phone support would fix a problem. Now shattering my screen, that may be worth paying for (AC+).
