I read it. It is likely a low priority bug until enough people vote up the bug on radar or enough duplicates make it a priority. Simple as that.

It's a bug. It isn't Apple making things worse on purpose.

How do I bring this bug to the attention of apple?

Atomic is gone from the app store, only the free one is avaliable. ...

Hey Doug you should have posted this in the main iPad forum it's a graveyard in here.

What's the main iPad forum?

Doug, your magic ball is almost right. New Terra will be in in early June I think.

So this new icab update is the one with the choppy scrolling or does it fix choppy scrolling?

NO choppy scrolling fix here. Its still the same

I take that to mean that choppy scrolling was introduced by a previous update?

I haven't noticed any change in my scrolling...I'm holding off on this new update in case that adds bad scrolling..

If Apple would cache the pages on iPad 1 so they don't reload, I wouldn't be forced to use iCab! Fortunately I use RSS for most of my internet content, and Reeder is as smooth as butter!

I'm sure Atomic is no longer caching pages on other tabs after the update - I'm sure I noticed this last night but I will need to confirm. May have just been a one off with a single site.

Ok now I am definitely noticing more choppy scrolling on pages like engadget...so the nw update a couple days ago does nothing to fix it, or is it a bit better? Or even worse?

Yeah choppy scrolling started about 3 updates ago.

Curse u apple. I nearly formatted my iPad after hours of options tweaks and app reinstalls trying to get to the bottom of the constant scroll stutters that weren't there before.

I mean what the hell, the jerky scrolling is a poor reflection on the whole device frankly. I've been a regular user of Atomic and Mercury. Both now dismal user experiences.

But every cloud has silver lining. Part of my dismay resulted in my looking at other browsers. And lo and behold my eyes have been opened. Forget the desktop clones on a tablet, check out Sleipnir (http://www.fenrir-inc.com/global/iphone/sleipnir-mobile.html) browser. Omg why have I been wasting my life. Innovation is alive gentlemen, it's free and there is no going back.

Oh and yes, smooth scrolling is intact. I had to create an account just to let everyone know. You're welcome!

I am surprised that more people do not care / have said nothing / written no blogs / no news articles about the fact that all popular alt. web browsers for the iPad (and iPhone, iPod Touch) now have purposefully-gimped, choppy, slow scrolling on any websites with multiple images or long pages:confused::eek::mad:

I sent an email to Steve Job's office. Does that count? :)

Yeah,

The scrolling is painful if your App uses a lot of web content. My main app, "Wiki Edit" uses the standard UIWebView scrolling like the new iCab and Atomic browsers. I added a "sections" menu to help people jump around in really large wiki pages.

There are a lot of requests for smooth scrolling and accurate progress indicators -- but the API's for these features are still private. Perhaps they will be formalized in iOS 5?

On the bright side, the dual core chip in the iPad 2 does help keep things smoother, as you can offload fetching content onto a different thread to keep the display smooth. Doesn't help for iPhone 4/iPod touch/iPad 1 though.

I have a huge amount of respect for the iCab and Atomic developers. They've done a fantastic job given the obstacles for building alternatives to Mobile Safari.

I don't use alternative web browsers on my iPhone or iPad but if you really are thinking that Apple did something then Private Message me what happened, anyone please cause the more the better. I'll see if I can write anything about it. Also I'll look into this thread more. If you find other forums with the same problem let me know.

This seems to confirm exactly the point I made further up the thread and it's really interesting to hear feedback from a real developer. This issue goes far beyond just third party browsers, it strikes at the very heart of one of the iPads key design points, namely being an internet-centric device. Any app that wants to display web content and doesn't use private APIs will end up with compromised performance, and there are lots of these apps. Any time you view a link in a Facebook app, click into "original article" in something like Flipboard, or more generally follow an internet link or do "view original" in any app - all these apps need to use UIWebView to render the web page without leaving the app itself.

Surely Apple must fix this in iOS 5?

First of all i apologize for my first post to be so negative.

I got the same answer from the Icab browser developer

If this is true, then this is a scandal, i want my money back for all the browsers I bought .
One of the reasons I choose Ipad and not the Xoom was the fine and smooth scrolling !!!
I HATE SAFARI !

"Apple doesn't allow" thats all I read. I knew about Flash and accepted that, but this is ridiculous. If I would have known that scrolling would become so jerky i would never have boughed the Ipad2. I spent alot of time on the internet with my Ipad and now it makes me nervous.

Hey Mr Jobs, Sire, are we allowed to use the Ipad after 10 pm? Must I have your permission?
A very very dissapointed Apple customer, this was my first and last purchase from Apple

I would never jailbreak, but if I have too for getting smooth scrolling then I WILL
If you get a Terra browser update, don't do it, it will be jerky afterwards. Terra is at this moment not available in the Apple store, hmmm I wonder why

Guy, ( if you haven't noticed, I'm mad)

Ps : anoher example : Apple mail app, it continues to add contacts and no way delete them

I've been reading this and I am confused. I use Atomic on my iPad 2 with the latest OS update (not jailbroken) and have no issues what so ever. Smooth as butter scrolling. Is this really widespread? If so, I can't see why I don't have any issues.

I also just downloaded Opera mobile web browser and don't have any issues there either.

You are incorrect, or not noticing the issue.

Load up a site with much content, like boingboing.net in any popular alt. Browser.

Try to quicly scroll down the page. Choppy & slow.

Go to the same site in Safari or the current version of Terra (not updated with the gimped scroling, yet).

If you cannot see a drastic difference in the scrolling, you might have a very low level of awareness. However, once you do the above test, I am sure you will notice the difference.

Bad Apple.

EDIT: BTW, I did blog about this. i am noticing very many people getting to said blog article with Google searches along the line of, "iPad browser choppy bad scrolling" and other similar search queries...

Maybe my issue is I don't visit poorly built websites like boingboing?

I also have Terra, iCab and Opera mobile and use them from time to time, but prefer Atomic. Point is, I have no issues, or maybe I simply lack the same amount of OCD required for this thread?
