Did the passing of Steve Jobs change your mind about getting the iphone 4s?.

Nope, not at all. Maybe a remembrance case or a case where donations go towards pancreatic cancer, but that is the extent.

Gave me a nudge to upgrade, that and the girlfriend is moaning about only having the 3g with 8gb:rolleyes:

cferra and I were talking last night about this. We both agreed that we're still sticking with our initial reaction that we're too unimpressed with the 4S and we'll go with the Nexus Prime for a while.

But the point was that we had the thought. Is it the last device they'll release that had his direct input?

The iPhone 4steve. Yes that is part of my decision. This is the last iPhone to meet Jobs final approval. No other iPhone after this will.

I usually change phones pretty often to try different things, always resell the ones that I'm not using. For myself if I do get a 4S, I think when I move on from it I will keep it as a remembrance "4 Steve" and not sell it.

Considering that Steve probably had less to do with this iPhone then any other model I don't feel any more inclined to buy it then I normally would have.

The 4S was probably being developed around the iPhone 4 time when he was still CEO so he probably did weigh in on it.

No, I still have my 1st Generation iPhone stored away that I refuse to sell.. That's the iPhone that Steve had the greatest hand in creating! I'm sure with all that was going on he wasn't as involved as he would have liked to be with this latest iPhone..

More Importantly...

I think the bigger question is "Will you continue to buy Apple products, now that Steve has passed?"

My answer would be "I'll see how it goes". Lets face it, Steve had been at the facility here/there, but overall he hadn't been at the helm for some time. When he announced he was stepping down, Tim Cook had already been dealing with the day-day operations. You just don't announce, I'm done, and he starts running things then. This has been ongoing, and TC has been groomed for some time to be his successor. I'm sure there'll be a lull in some of the cool innovations until he gets more settled. I mean, you can't replace Steve Jobs. He made Apple what it is, because of his vision, his taste in style, etc. Tim has similar characteristics, otherwise SJ wouldn't have wanted him as his successor. Nor would the Board.

I think things will be fine, and I have no doubt I'll continue to buy and enjoy Apple products for years to come. Until then, lets just see what happens...

I thought about this question yesterday. Unfortunately though, my decision stands and I'll be going android.

It put things in perspective; like how silly it actually is to complain about a new phone that doesn't live up to your expectations.

Some of you guys are weird. The people that loved and knew him (and it's none of us) don't really care about his achievements with Apple. Or at least they shouldn't.

The iProducts are just gizmos and Steve said as much himself. I seriously doubt that throwing money at Apple has any significant meaning other than to make yourself feel better in some kind of weird way which I don't understand.

Let his *real* family and friends mourn him for what he really was as only they knew him.

Yes, it did change my mind. I never owned an iPhone, but now I want to be part of history, have a piece of what changed the world and have something that was probably the last thing Steve Jobs has approved before his death. I want something of Steve Jobs era and witness my self his genius work

Yes it has made me change my mind. This is the last iPhone that he has physically had input on and I plan to get one now. 20 yrs from now I will remember this particular iPhone and the days after it was announced. :apple:

I've seen some forum posts indicating a heightened interest due to SJ's death. Sort of like a tribute purchase.

cheers

The type of mindset inferred and demonstrated in this thread is lunacy. It's a damn product, why would anyone be more inclined to buy it because the CEO of the company that makes the product died? Never in my life would I have thought that I would read a thread posted on a tech rumor forum implying this. I would not rule out a psychiatric evaluation for some users on this forum.

George Carlin would have a freaking field day with this. WAKE UP and re-evaluate your life priorities.

Unbelievable...

This. And I don't really understand how buying this iPhone would change the fact that Steve died or not. Remember, it's just a phone, or a fancy combination of glass, metal, and plastic. And Apple, as a corporation, doesn't care if you're going to buy the iPhone to cherish Steve's life or not, they just want you to give the money in exchange for the phone. If obtaining this phone was somehow tied to celebrating Steve's life, then Apple would be discounting it.

People in this thread are acting like they owe Steve Jobs (or Apple) something. I thinking paying the enormously high price tag for this product is good enough (and Apple would agree).

This is an excellent question. I think in some regards, due to Steve's incredible micro-managing nature, he did a disservice to Apple. The man could just will things to happen. It was like he had total control over the people/companies he did business with. I think some of his business partners feared him. He had the clout to get anything done, for Apple's advantage. Now, will people see Tim in the same way? I don't think so. I don't think Tim can say "my way or the highway" and get what he wants. Now, the same product designers (Ive, etc.) are at Apple, so I don't think the excellent engineering will change. But the ability of Apple to proclaim something is "magical" and have everyone believe it is likely gone now. Steve was a master in marketing and consumer psychology and people just bought into his reality distortion field. He could get away with saying "you're holding it wrong" and come out of that PR nightmare unscathed. I just don't see this happening with a Jobs-less Apple.

At least they still have Jonny Ive in the house. I expect the next iPhone to be mind-blowing.

I think people are going to start judging Apple's products for what they actually are. With Jobs, he could convince people Apple's products were larger than life, that they were somehow "magical". People who buy the products not for their physical attributes, but because Jobs told them to. I just can't see this happening with Tim. When I watched the keynote, all I saw was a bunch of Steve Jobs's underlings trying to sell a speed-bumped iPhone. I just didn't feel it.

Although I was disappointed with the 4S, I was still getting it because I sold my 4 last weekend. But after Steve died I realized my disappointment was stupid, really. I wanted a new case design so I had something new to hold and look at. I wanted a 4" screen but for no particular reason other then it was bigger.

So yes, Steves passing made me realize that the 4S is a pretty awesome device and nothing to be disappointed about. I'm actually really excited to get it. Plus going back to the display on my 3GS makes appreciate retina SO much more.

I was sort of disappointed the case wasn't that teardrop one with the bigger screen and the lozenge shaped home button. BUT I love the iPhone 4 and seeing what SIRI could do for me (a person with VERY limited eye sight) I am eager to get it. I will also spring for the larger version 64gb.

I can't imagine how much strength it took for all the presenters to do their job FOR STEVE the day the iPhone 4S was announced.

Yes, Iphone 4S(teve)...

thank you Steve, rip.

Yes, but will Cook still push Ive like Jobs did?

I suspect that Steve often defied logic and protocol when rejecting designs and prototypes. Especially when it came down to what most of us would consider minuscule details. And like most creative people I wonder if he found it difficult to communicate what he envisioned:

"I don't know what it should look like! But I'll know it when I see it! Keep 'em coming!" (Or something like this).

I can only wonder if this type of strong-arm creative passion is what Cook has? (Or anyone for that matter). Were it somebody other than SJ at the helm a few years ago, we could have seen one of the earlier prototypes of the iPad hit the market and flop like everyone else's' did at the time.

This is Cook's company now. I just hope he has the vision and is stubborn enough to hold out until somebody delivers it for him.

I was thinking the same thing this morning. I was doubting about buying the 4 or the 4S. The 4S is the last product he was involved in -at least for now; they say that he could have been working in the iPhone 5-, and it'd be an inner way to thank him for all the things he did. But the truth is that he isn't here anymore and the only person that would be thankful for buying one, would be the seller and me.
I like the 4S more than before he died. I suppose it's part due to my human condition :), despite it may be silly.

Yes, it did.. At 1st I was going to skip this but since this is the last one HE touched/had imput with I will be pre ordering tomorrow :)
