I think that everyone deals with death differently...To criticize someone for the way they deal with it, as some are doing on this thread, is ignorant and completely uncalled for.

In your Jimi's live performance example, you assume that someone is getting something out of the experience that "he would never pay" to have and now happily pays $500 for that.

What's the difference here? It's not like giving away $500 for nothing. You get a phone!

You don't think there is any relationship between the 4S and Steve. But some people (including myself) do.

If you are a jimi hendrix fan, going to a live show is rewarding because... Well... You get to see him live.

If you are a Steve Jobs fan (whatever that means), you buy a 4s?

The music /sports analogy works because you are getting a direct live experience with the person you like.

With the iphone, it is not the case. Like I said, jobs probably said "make the phone thinner and more elegant" and the design team kept bringing him designs until he okay'd one of them.

People are acting as if steve himself hand crafted the iphone they will be purchasing.

But whatever, to each his own. No point in arguing this any further

I was going to get one anyways at some point, but I realized that it wasn't as bad as I thought. It's a freaking beast inside.

What about buying a Chicago Bulls jersey or a Coldplay t-shirt?

I made a thread like this and realized this one was pretty much the same topic but mine was just closed.

Yes I think some people will buy a 4S as a show of support.

I preordered the book because of his passing.

As for the phone, his passing did not effect my decision.

Considering that Steve probably had less to do with this iPhone then any other model I don't feel any more inclined to buy it then I normally would have.

The 4S was probably being developed around the iPhone 4 time when he was still CEO so he probably did weigh in on it.

....and the next iPhone will primarily be a Steve Jobs phone. They work on these things years in advance.

Wolf Blitzer on CNN last night asked a tech expert was the reason for the disappointment in the iPhone 4S because Steve had nothing to do with it.

Yeah right, they only started developing the 4S in August.

I was also on the fence. His dying didn't make me want to get the phone, but it reminded me how awesome the device is and how much effort and time is put into it, somehow. I also figured that I'll somehow use my Mom's upgrade to get the 5, and so I don't lose anything.

You sure got everything figured out.. somehow.

I would like to get it but its not going to happen, the only thing that would motivate me at this point is a steve jobs limited edition version then i would buy on, keep it and never sell it. :apple:

Does Steve Jobs passing make you use your Apple devices (insert the forum category title here like iPhone, iPad, etc) a little more lovingly today?

No.. however, it did make me use my Apple device more to get hold of family and friends to tell them that I love and miss them..

.. because some families won't be able to now.

BL.

Look, don't buy an iPhone 4S because you think Apple needs the charity. They don't. If you're fickle enough to be "disappointed" by the 4S, then stay disappointed, and don't let the man's death change that.

To assume that Apple needs all the help it can get is a down vote for Steve Jobs' ability to select good people to carry on without him.

It's an interesting sentiment. But, I will continue to buy Apple products because they are good products, and they do what they do well. Not because of any perceived feeling that Apple is in a panic and the ship is sinking because their leader died and they can't go on far without him, and they need every dollar of charity they can get. That's simply not true.

Besides, a company "needing every dollar it can get" is the worst reason to buy a product. Steve's gone. Buying an iPhone 4S isn't going to bring him back.

Respect the man. Respect his legacy. Respect the things he designed and helped design. And if you disagree that he was able to make something that will last, then don't waste your money on what is basically an insincere gesture.

In any case, if you really think the post-Jobs era is going to be THAT bad, then have the conviction to at least stick with your guns and star looking elsewhere. It's better to migrate now while you still can, right?

And, you'll be doing the rest of us a favor. The last thing I want to deal with when I'm waiting in the massive line to buy an iPhone 4S is to have to put up with some guy next to me rambling on about how "disappointed" he is that poor ol' Steve couldn't push out an iPhone 5 before the passed on, but is buying this model anyway out of some contrived sense of obligation. If that's you, then I entreat you: kindly give your spot to someone who will actually enjoy the 4S and made good use of it.

One thing is for sure: if Apple is still around in 5 years - and I'm absolutely positive they will be - then I think it's safe to say that Steve made something that will last, and that the employees who succeed him did right by him.

I was considering getting the 4S but I was still not eligible till 4/12/12 and now with this, for the time being I am going to keep my iPhone 4, since it was the last phone that Steve Jobs introduced on stage... I will just wait for the iPhone 5 to come out.

I think it can push more people to get it.

Similar to when a musician dies, their album sales go up. Bigger in death than in life. And Jobs was already a larger than life icon as is.

I ended up getting a pristine iPhone 2G for $90 off Craigslist yesterday. This is my second one after selling my first one 16 months ago. For some reason yesterday morning, I wanted it for sentimental reasons and for a travel phone. I was NOT aware of Steve's death until hours later when I got home and started using the web on it. And I just came back home from watching 50/50 (a movie about a young guy getting cancer). I think the news broke out the moment I was actually buying the phone! Coincidence or fate? And in SoCal, it was raining when I got it and today it is all sunny. Eerie and just plain ironic. Now I know I will never sell this iPhone 2G because this is the one I got the day Steve Jobs died. I will keep it always in memory of him.

You can say I now own both the first and last iPhone that Steve Jobs ever introduced on stage in 2007 and 2010. :apple:

iPhone - The one that changed the game
iPhone 4 - The biggest leap since the original iPhone

I highly respect the man for his accomplishments.

Buy the 4S?

Not a chance. It's far from Apples best work. Not even close.

Others?

Yes they will buy these in massive numbers and I"ll celebrate as I watch my Apple stock continue to climb.

Very soon it will have crested the 2,000% growth factor since I first went all in.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think the "little company", that I invested in many years ago, would make me so wealthy.

I wanted to get the 4S anyways, but does steve jobs death make me want it more? no but what I think the op was getting at was this:

that peoples opinions on the product have changed, they realize that steve was extremely ill, so they feel bad for ragging on a product that really is not bad at all.
