Regarding battery life - which for many is the biggest sacrifice in downsizing - I have been getting 6-8hrs SOT in my daily use. Pretty happy with it, coming from a 15 Pro Max.
Yes it’s a tough one indeed. Basically, Apple states that under normal use one can expect 9h approximately, heavy use would of course be. less? Would you say your 6-8h is with heavy use ?

Can’t help comparing with my 14PM, but need to accept it’s apples and pears. Spec-wise they’re not so far apart though…

Can anyone here with the Pro comment on whether there is a slight noise coming from your volume and lock buttons? Try putting your finger on one of the buttons at a time and try moving it around a little bit and see if there is a noise. I've noticed that mine has a bit of a noise whereas my 15 PM does not.
No noise on mine
Checked, can’t hear noise either. You should definitely check with apple, if it’s something odd with your specific device.

I initially bought a 16P coming from a 15PM.
The size felt great, didn’t miss the screen real estate too much.

Had the phone for over a week and battery life was consistently worse than my previous phone. Also had overheating issues, where the phone would get pretty warm to the touch at random.

Picked up a 16PM and seeing none of these issues. Any ideas? It can’t be linked to indexing…
Have had mine 3 days now, haven’t noticed any overheating issues so far. Would say I’m a fairly heavy user. Did you notice it quickly, or after how many days? In combination with charging, phone call, streaming, etc, or just random?

Happens at random, noticed it from the start. It has been a good few days now, will get it exchanged.

I did.
Change is minimal, for me the added screen size didn't really add anything and so far I'm not missing it. Larger battery was nice, but so is slightly smaller dimensions. All in all the difference isn't what people make it out to be and I would switch again if it has an added benefit (like last year when the PM had the 5x camera).

I've gone from 15PM (now in the possesion of my wife and I'm unlikely to get it back!) to a 16 Pro.
6.3" is a nice screen size and obviously a much more pocketable device. I do wonder if 6.5" is the sweet spot but that's for another day perhaps.
My concern, as with others, is the battery. I was averaging 2.5 cycles per week approx with the 15PM, the best anecdotal way I've got of measuring the difference with the 16 Pro is how the cycles pan out as my general usage is unlikely to change.
I've got a M4 iPad Pro and MBA when I need a bigger screen so that aspect doesn't really bother me much.

Went in on the 16 Pro very aware of smaller battery, but they boosted promising improvements… (with 9% bigger then 15 Pro.)

Official numbers as I understand them:

14 PM - 29h video playback
16 Pro - 27h video playback

So, I can accept a bit of change on my side, I’m using the phone a bit too much anyway 😬 but so far I think the SOT have been lesser then expected, and I do understand all that switched back to PM. Can one expect battery consumption to settle within 2 weeks… let’s see.

For the <5% of time that I am on the go all day, it charges fast enough for a quick top up and even a small battery pack like the Anker Nano is super convenient for heavy on-the-go use. The 5g modem feels more efficient especially for streaming video.

For >95% of the time I have an M4 iPad Pro with OLED that beats the Max for longer duration content consumption. I find the iPhone Pro being relegated to light browsing, taking a few photos on the go and app-based light tasks, and it appears to have plenty of juice for that kind of usage.

That said, I don’t know much of a battery hit Apple Intelligence will be for the on-device tasks that will require heavy processing power but I’m willing to take that chance this year.
Do you have the 13 inch or 11inch iPad Pro?

Isn't the size of the text and UI elements the same with the Pro now at 6.3"? My understanding is you get an additional line or two of text with the Max, but the zoom options are the same? I could be wrong as I just use the default UI and text size (no eyesight issues, yet 🤞)

Comparing with 14PM they’re smaller, but as mentioned there are tweaking possibilities through display and accessibility settings. It’s 2y ago I had a 6.1”, so can’t compare, but should maybe be a small diff from that end maybe?

No offense but it really does seem like people go out of their way to look for problems.

I did after carrying the 14 pro max for the last two years. I can deal with the battery, but had to increase the text size due to these aging 48 year old eyes. I don't miss the weight of what I had, and largely don't miss the pro max screen size. Traveling soon for work, so we'll see.

Quick update, I just got back from a 3 day work trip. Lots of running around and phone use for work (Teams, Outlook, social media, some YouTube at the airport and in between). Very happy with the phone, the pocketability and general performance. I elected to go low power mode for one day when I was out for over 14 hours and it got the job done. I was sitting in the mid 30% by the end of the day and I had medium to heavy use off and on through the day, though not for hours straight.

At the airport I grabbed a quick battery topoff twice ( going out and coming back) from my portable battery bank since I had my travel bag with me, but honestly didn’t need it. So, overall, happy with the change almost two weeks in and I am not missing the pro max. Good luck all!

Sounds promising, thanks for the report!! 👍 My battery time have slowly but surely gotten better last couple of days, will decide in a week. Really want to be able to keep it, as long as it’s not far from official specs it will be ok 😀

This has definitely been my hardest decision the last couple year. Currently using a Max and as much as I love it, I hate it. The size and the weight and how it feels in pocket make it awful. I literally just got home from Best Buy and Verizon and I am 85% sure, I’m gonna do the Pro. I’m still on my 12PM so even with the pro, I’m sure I’ll be pleased with the battery life. I’m just not sure if I can get used to the screen size or not.

Did you also try the 16 PM, felt similar to the 12 PM?
Felt like a big leap on my part from 14 PM, but happy I did. After nearly a week it still feels like a relief.

I was playing with both the Pro and the Max, but honestly, I couldn’t see much of a difference between the new Max and my 12PM, size and weight wise, keeping in mind my phone was in a case, and the new phones are tethered, so you really don’t get a good feel for them in hand. I am just so on the fence, I like the overall size of the Pro, but I’m in my early 50s, my eyes aren’t what they used to be, and at times I find the keyboard on my 12PM to be hard to text with because I have sausage fingers 🤣🤣🤣
So after an hour of handling, both of them, I’m still very much on the fence

So all in all, are you happy you went with the pro? I mean, are you thinking you’re gonna keep it?

I went from 13PM to 16P and couldn't be happier. I loved my Pro Max the first two years but I grew a bit tired of the size over time. My usage pattern had changed and didn't really use the iPhone in a way that justified the screen size. So finally downsized and I think the screen is perfect for my usage and being able to use it one-handed really is a game changer for me. Only negative I've found is the battery life. Battery is not quite up to Pro Max level not even my old 13PM. Could be me using my new phone more so I'll give it a few weeks to settle.

Right now it’s a 99% keeper 😂
Only snag is if I can’t accept battery time, which I will decide on coming week. But theoretically it shouldn’t be so far of the 14 PM 🤞
Otherwise in all other aspects it’s just what I needed.

Same here, my user case changed over 2 years. Have a 15 plus as a separate work phone now which really changed the balance, fulfilling massive battery time and big screen. My personal phone can now be sleek and manageable, as well as powerful. 😎

Kind of my thoughts, the 16Pro should beat my 12PM in terms of battery life. And be more manageable in pocket friendly. But the big beautiful screen on the max is truly a work of art. 😁
I am so undecided
