i was told that i should have received the lower upgrade pricing after a pre-order from Apple, and purchasing at the higher upgrade pricing. I have spoken with ATT and now they are claiming that they were wrong with what they told me and that I was told the wrong information. the conversation ended with a simple "I'm sorry sir." I was going to give them another call since the dust has settled to see if someone could truly review my account. I was hoping I would just receive and email, however this doesn't look like it will be the case.

What makes you think that you were qualified for the lower pricing?

1. Did you already have a July, Aug or Sept. 2009 Upgrade Eligible date as stated in the Press Release?

2. Do you currently have an iPhone 3G that you purchased in Jul, Aug, or Sept. 2008 as stated in the Press Release?

3. Do you pay more than >$99 per month for your voice + individual data plan (3 Month rolling average)? (not your combined monthly billing)
If you can't answer YES to all three questions, then you don't qualify the revised pricing and the answer will be sorry Sir but you don't qualify... :(

The fact that you have or don't have a 3G currently, does not matter. What matters is your upgrade date, and whether you pay $99 or more. Please show me specifically where it says you MUST have a 3G currently.

I can answer yes to all of those questions. I purchased 2 days after release, my bill has been $105.xx before taxes, and had the eligibility. I also called ATT on the 18 to confirm and was told that I was eligible for that pricing.

I can answer Yes to all of those questions, not to mention the Apple supervisor has told me 3 times that he has verified I qualify and my account is noted as such.

I can answer yes to all of the above questions as well, but have heard nothing and gotten no update from Apple on the situation. Seems others still the same 'eh?

I think it's ridiculous that it has been a week and no one from Apple or AT&T can answer any questions regarding this issue. Seems like there are a lot of folks still waiting...

Actually the requirement to be an "Existing iPhone 3G Customer is clearly stated in the Press Release.

We're now pleased to offer our iPhone 3G customers who are upgrade eligible in July, August or September 2009 our best upgrade pricing, beginning Thursday, June 18.

Aye Dave,
I think the majority of people, at least in this thread, were the 3G owners.
I as of this posting have still not heard a word of what's going on.
So I'm going to give one last call attempt to Apple on Monday before I move forward with my plans to get some of this resolved some how.

I do think my iphone is defective anyways, so, there's the potential I may end up returning it in a fervor of discontent. (defective as in: does not accept calls properly no matter how many times I've reset it, Voicemail show up 3 days late, cellular service drops CONSTANTLY, my 3G NEVER had these issue, and my bottom speaker sounds like others have reported, that it is very very static / distorted.)

Overall, not too happy with the whole situation. Getting help in the matter via phone seems impossible, and the nearest Apple store to complain to somebody that might have a clue is a 2 hour 1 way trip. May end up doing that tomorrow just for kicks and see where that gets me.

Oh well, keeping the thread alive. Anybody else hear anything yet?

OK so I called Apple. After 45 minutes of the agent trying to get some answers from her Supervisor she stated that they are processing the refunds once they receive notification from AT&T that you qualify. They said I should call AT&T. So I called AT&T and they are useless. They had no idea that there were changes in the upgrade pricing and I spoke with 2 different agents. What a total waste of 2 hours this morning. If I don't get notification within the next week I will raise holy hell.

I didn't get a chance to waste time on the phone today.
But I couldn't imagine my results would have been any different steve772.

This is getting a little crazy.

Still haven't heard anything from Apple yet about my refund. Looks like I will be spending the better part of tomorrow morning on the phone with these idiots.

Nothing here either, I can't even reach my "contact"

What a crock of ****.

That still does *not* say anything about having to have an iPhone 3G currently. They're just assuming you have a 3G. What if you bought a 3G launch day, but got it stolen or lost it, and didn't want to pay for a replacement? So according to your logic, that person is now SOL because they don't have their 3G in possession. How does that make any sense? Just because I don't have my 3G anymore, doesn't mean I'm less eligible than anyone (and yes I pay more than $99 a month, and my original upgrade date was July 12th).

Ok, I finally made some progress today...keyword being "some".

Here's my deal. I preordered the iPhone 3GS through apple.com and was expecting the refund. However, I preordered before the press release came out. I think that's what caused my situation to get messy.

I met all the criteria for the full upgrade price.

Basically spoke with an AT&T rep 2 weeks ago, he said wait for the computer to do it's system sweep and that I should automatically get my refund and to call back in 1 week. It took me a solid hour on the phone to get to this point as they were clueless about the press release.

I called back today (giving 2 full weeks waiting for the system to "sweep" me my $200 refund). I ended up with some random AT&T rep who could not connect me with my contact from 2 weeks earlier.

I had to bring this new rep up to speed on my situation, and where I last left off with my previous call. This rep was also equally clueless about the press release. She had to "do more research" on the matter and ended up calling me back.

She called back about a half hour later saying I was in fact not eligible for the $200 refund. We went back and forth for a little while, and she would not budge from the fact that I was not eligible. I expressed how aggravated I was with the conflicting info I was getting from her and the rep from 2 weeks earlier and ultimately she issued me a $100 courtesy credit directly to my AT&T account.

I ended up conceding because of the amount of time and energy I've put into this, and figured $100 is better than $0.

Overall, these AT&T reps are really in the dark with this whole situation. I am left with a bitter taste in my mouth being I know I am eligible for the full $200, but then again, I was buying the 3GS on day 1 no matter what the price. So at least AT&T threw me half-a-bone.

I hope this helps some people out there.

While $100 is better than nothing, I'd rather not have a credit on my account, but that's just me. I still haven't gotten my e-mail from Apple yet :\

Interesting. Especially since the refund should be coming from Apple directly, Not AT&T. Technically, the fight you want to have is with Apple. At AT&T told me "Don't look at us, Apple is the one who took your money, fight it out with them" ... to which of course Apple says "Don't look at us, AT&T is the one who you have an account with, argue with them" ..

I'm I think at my limit for this nonsense. I'm tempted to just kill my AT&T service, and in my present frame of mind, there will be corpses if they think I'm paying any kind of termination fee for their shyte service and absent customer support.

I'm going this afternoon to my bank to put in a formal fraud complaint against my iPhone purchase charge, bringing with all of my records, and just outright disputing it. I'll let Apple re-charge me the amount I should really be paying. If this can't get resolved, I think I'd happily send back my defective call dropping, broken speaker, worthless wi-fi, and overall useless AT&T service iPhone.

Either wait till the next gen iPhone gets to a carrier that has their shyte together, or drop Apple as a brand entirely. This has really left me in a position where I don't want to deal with AT&T or Apple as a company. And don't give me "It Isn't Apple's Fault" - trust me, if they wanted to, they could have demanded this information from AT&T and cleared this up real fast. But tell me, what kind of company WANTS to give away money if / when they don't have to?

My understanding is that ALL these refunds were originating with AT&T even though some were being paid out by Apple on their behalf for customers that ordered through apple.com?

I called 1-800-MY-APPLE today and I was told that "everything is automated and you will get your refund eventually." Oh, thanks ol' wise Apple representative.

That's pretty much what I got told as well. I'll get it eventually. It's almost a month since it's been out, and they still can't give us our damn refunds? Why do companies have to move like molasses about everything customer related?

Oh Quit your complaining...you'll get it eventually...much more than I'll get...I had complain to get a manager override at the AT&T store just to get the early upgrade pricing. I would've had to wait 6 months in order to get the BEST pricing that you're getting because they didn't like the PR nightmare.

So I'm "complaining" about Apple not refunding me the $200 that is owed to me? I'm terribly sorry, I'm such a greedy person for it...

Yes you are...you are essentially being given a gift that AT&T and Apple decided was worth it in exchange for the disappearance of most of the outrage for the price of the 3GS. You're complaining about a gift you didn't deserve anymore than I did (both of us are still not "upgrade eligible")...you didn't have to wait until your eligibility date to get the BEST pricing...no you got your pricing lowered because people complained about the price. It is not a refund. It is a gift to shut you up about the price of the phone.
