Are y’all never near chargers? I don’t understand why people act like they need as much battery as possible when they probably work behind a desk lol

Not behind a desk always, and with the 15PM @ 88% battery health, I was basically using a portable Anker to recharge at some point every single day. Even if you never face a critical shortage of battery, what would make you more comfortable on a night out - 10% remaining or 30% remaining (just as an example).

So they never totally fixed the 15's heat issue? It was not entirely software based then?

I have the 14 Pro.

Absolutely not. The software bug was just something that exacerbated the problem to an extreme level. The core issue was the design. My speculation was the software fix, in addition to tamping down whatever bug was taxing the CPU, was some throttling across the board. Regardless of what they did, the heat remained an issue with many different usage conditions, and personally I feel that battery life also suffered from the inadequate heat dissipation.

16 Pro Max is a huge stride forward. It still gets warm (much less so) sometimes, but it also dissipates much faster. Battery life improvement is noticeable, but of course that's never going to be a battle that ends.

It even gets as hot as the 15 Pro Max did, so not sure they really fixed anything in it, but we'll see after a few days.

Whoa you think so? That is far from my experience. You updated to the latest 18.0 build specifically for the 16 Series (a 400MB update from the 18.0 it shipped with)?

Perhaps just give it some time. I'm not saying it never gets warm, but in my experience significantly less so than 15 Pro Max and also dissipates significantly faster. I use an Apple-branded silicone case, that is another differentiating factor.

I did. I setup my 16PM exactly how my 15PM was and when I added a case, I could not notice the screen difference. The camera control really isn't a "oh wow" feature and isn't worth $1300. The 16PM feels heavier as well.
You just wanted a new toy to play with and never intended to keep it any ways. 👎 It’s not meant for people that have a 15 PM! It doesn’t cost no $1,300 either if you sold the 15 PM. I like mine and passed down the 15 PM to my sister.

No but the upgrade is not exactly world shattering (I had the 15 Pro Max). I had not expected much and did not get much. I just like to keep myself on the latest iteration of the phone.

One comment for me is that they compromised the position of the camera button so that people who insist on taking videos in portrait mode rather in panoramic mode (the way my TV and eyes are orientated) can keep hold of the phone without dropping it. It is now in a position that suites neither mode and is in fact positioned so that if you pick up the phone incorrectly you take a picture. You have to be really careful where you put your fingers when you pick it. I keep getting screen shots (power and volume down) and now I get camera shots as well. I cannot win. :)

BTW my wife hates the desert titanium color. I asked if she wanted to swap it out, but the other colors are so anaemic and not worth the effort she decided to just hide the color with a case. Apple and their color choices are so bad. You have to use a case and not just because the phone is designed to self destruct if you drop it.

I buy EVERY year no matter what.

That might be a problem, as Apple cannot keep up with you. 😉

The way I see it, the major difference between 15 Pro and 16 Pro is a 0.2” screen size difference and the new action button, the rest is all pretty much the same. So why bother in the first place, considering it was all scrutinised here:

Went from a 15PM to a 16PM and have no regrets what so ever. I'm still getting used to the capture button but overall i like it. To me, the phone feels bigger and heaver (thats because it actually is) and now feels like the perfect Iphone size to my big old hands. Im even rocking an Otterbox Defender case on it and it feels perfect, my huge thumbs barely touch now when i type, a nitpick i had on the 15PM but thats because last year i was rocking a slimmer Spigen Imac G3 Case instead of my usual otterbox defender cases that i normally use. (Still got the 16PM Imac Ruby Red G3 Case for the phone if i want to switch it out later on)

Overall to me the phone feels near perfect now. My biggest issue was the capture button getting in the way but it doesnt at all. I still got to get used to it, but i like the idea behind it. Hell i think they should use that button for non camera things like scrolling though the phone without touching the screen. That be a fun little option and i'll bet ya in IOS19 they will add that at some point.

so far no complaints what so ever. In fact, its making me question getting the rumored Ipad Mini 7 or going back to the Ipad Pro Max, because besides split screen apps and pencil support, those are the only two things the Mini can do that the phone cant.

Now...if they put out a Ipad mini pro with an OLED Screen and FaceID id buy that in a heartbeat...but thats years away and even further away is my dream foldable iphone pro that opens up to a ipad mini! Maybe on the 20th anniversary in 3 years!

Overall i honestly dont see what more they can do to fix the current format of Iphones. Maybe totally eliminate the Dynamic Island? Split Screen or a return to Horizon mode for the ios? (Like the original Max phones had, remember that when you turned the phone sideways and the UI turned with it? I miss that) but thats all software based stuff we could get.

Physucally i dont see outside of switching to foldable phones or adding a built in stylus simular to how Samsung does with its ultra line...i have no idea what more you can do with these phones.

‘Maybe you just got the wrong color. Everyone has choice to make. Sound like you have made yours!

This is what happens each and every year:

Apple announces new devices
People go "whaaaat, this is unacceptable, nothing new added, why won't that device cook food/make coffee/end world hunger"
Same people buy it anyway
Same people return it the day after
Same people go back to a device with even LESS features
Same people eagerly await next year's edition

Repeat.

could be because we are a spoiled generation…

15PM to 16PM

16PM is going back. The display really lacks color and has a blueish unrealistic tint to it. The size was fine. Battery and heat from what I tested were about the same. Camera button is way too close to the center of the phone when in landscape mode, but minor gripe.

Overall the display quality did it for me. Oh well maybe a dud

I’ve never returned an iPhone, iPad, MacBook or any other product from Apple.

Their website and keynote events provide plenty of information to help potential buyers make an informed decision. In general, iPhones have to be one of the most reviewed products ever.

If you need to try one out in person you can go to an Apple store, Best Buy or a carrier store.

If you have any doubt, why pre-order and return? I think it’s wasteful.

I am keeping my iPhone 16 Pro Max as my main iPhone so I can use my existing iPhone 15 Pro Max as my spare iPhone for iOS beta testing. Also, I sold my iPhone 14 Pro Max in August 2024 because it is not capable of Apple Intelligence.

The yearly “did you return the newest iPhone thread”. Funny i made a thread back in August just casually mentioning to yearly upgraders would be the first ones making topics about retuning the phone for not having enough “new” features or innovations but got marked for trolling here and I now see this so it’s kinda ironic. No offense to anyone to be clear though.

Anyway, OP like many have said over and over, if you upgrade yearly the experience isn’t going to wow you. not being rude but some research before had would have saved you the trouble. All the specs and features between the 15 pro max and 16 pro max are on Apple website as well as many YouTube videos.

It’s better to do the 2-3 year upgrade cycle for more meaningful changes.

I also dont understand those people. It sounds more like impulsive buying than anything else. You can’t expect much if you want to upgrade after only a year. Some people have to understand that phones aren’t made for yearly updates anymore.

I am on a 15 pro max and did research and watched the keynote and knew it probably isn’t wise for me to upgrade given the minor updates. Yearly upgrade folks who later complain about the lack of innovation and return their phones launch weekend or the week after launch confuse me. It does seem like impulsive buying.

Could you please post pic of your cass with the phone?

I’m currently testing 16 PM and 16 Plus.

Will probably return the 16 PM. Coming from a 15 PM I appreciate the lighter weight of the 16 Plus and the beautiful teal color.
I’ve been tempted to go for the plus models for a few years now but ended up staying w the pros. mostly because of my secret grievance re 60hz, but also because the strangers will stop being in awe of me and my fancy pro as i stroll by and bring that magic into their lives 🤣
