Ditto. I think the Droid X and the Evo 4G are a wee bit too big for my taste. If I were to hop and go to Verizon, the Incredible would be the one I would get right this second. I would, however, think about getting the Samsung Galaxy S phone that is coming for Verizon though. I like the AT&T Samsung Captivate and don't mind the implementation of the 2.1 UI that they got, although I do like the Sense UI.

I switched from the HTC Incredible to the Droid X because the Droid Incredible has terrible battery life. Plus I really like the big screen on the Droid X and voice call quality is better. The Galaxy S phones are having a lot of GPS issues and Samsung is slow or just never updates their phones so even though their screen is awesome I would stay away until we know if the Fascinate has these issues when it comes out.
Personally I think all Android phones should have the option of switching to stock Android.

With regards to the list of apps, that isn't an Android issue, thats an issue with the developers themselves. In due time, the maturity of Android apps will only grow. Since Android devices are selling at an astronomical rate, I wouldn't be surprised to see much more enriched applications in the future to come.
I hear what you're saying. If a user makes no customizations to his/her Droid X phone, the experience 'out of the box' is not as slick and smooth as the iPhone, however, if one does a little bit of reading, there are applications in the Android Marketplace that resolves the laggy UI issue (notably apps like LauncherPro or ADW Launcher). A Motorola executive stated some weeks earlier that the 'MotoBlur' UI which is notorious for adding bloatware and making entire system laggy will not be in future devices. This is a good sign to come.
But overall i hear where you're coming from, as long as companies like Motorola and HTC add in their own clunky UI, I don't see how they can win over mainstream users.
If you're the type of smartphone user that likes to customize their phones, I don't see how Android OS can't be a compelling device to use. The customizations are almost limitless on Android.
In the end, I'm really digging the mobile platform war that is ensuing. Customers are only benefiting, and innovation is coming at a break-neck speed.

Android apps are not selling nearly as well as iPhone apps. Too easy to pirate and not that many large complicated apps as on the iPhone. For a developer the iPhone or actually ios market still makes way more sense.
I consider Launcher Pro a must have for the Droid X.
Widgets on Android are a crutch for a poor user interface. iPhone users don't need them. I barely use them on Android.
Current Moto phones like the Droid X and Droid 2 already don't use MotoBlur. that was in the older Moto Android phones.
Competition is good. We get a better iPhone because of Android and a better Android because of the iPhone.

what a load of rubbish. Widgets are there to give you shortcuts. If I want to view an email that has come in I can use the widget and don't have to open the email app. If I want to view a text message or change a setting I don't have to go to settings and on and on until I find my setting and change it.

Droid X does come with motoblur on it. I thought you owned one lol.

Devs like to stay in iOS environment because theres just more money to be made, and the app store is definitely more enriched/mature than Android's marketplace.

But to be honest, I didn't buy a phone for the apps, its one of the reasons why i don't have much interest in iP4.

I mainly bought the DX because of its ability to be highly customized, voice search/commands, and Navigation! Everything else is secondary!

Battery life best so far

-Stock Battery
-Leaked froyo 2.2
-1 hour 12 min of talk time (continuous talk time)
-Mild use of browsing, but heavy on flash/multimedia.

Could not have said it better myself.

I just do not get the hatred here on some of the responses.
Just an observation based on the comments that the "haters" post. It seems to be a matter of insecurity on their part, with a lot of Android Envy mixed in.

Insecure wondering if they bought the right phone.

Another give away, is people that post on this forum asking for help with decisions of the most basic type. These are very insecure people.

As of this writing there are over 4,000 people that have viewed this thread. That's a lot of interest in Android...:)

lol ego much? i have absolutley no android envy, i am perfectly happy with my iPhone 4. 4,000 people probably have read to see if yet another android user has come on to an iPhone forum to 'brag' about it, we're not the insecure ones that we have to go to a forum for a totally different device to try and get them to go 'oooo it's shiny we want one' then get the hump when we don't.... if android is that great, why waste time doing that? need to get a life....

Wow, one of the dumbest comments in this thread. Congrats.

That wasn't my intention. It was to foster discussion, and demonstrate competitor's look and feel. Additionally, I feel as though many Apple owners don't really know whats outside of the iOS environment.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Apple, after all, if there were no iPhone, there would not have been a Droid X.

well there's already a few droid related threads in here, could at least just use one of those.....

I would love to have a bigger screen and an overall bigger device wouldn't bother me. I have a hard time believing that the iPhone screen size will change any time soon. I am seeing a pattern here.....

Steve Jobs said 300ppi = retina resolution. So Apple could give the iPhone a 3.85" display with the same resolution and still call it retina. Eventually Apple will need to figure out things to change and screen size will definitely be one

I agree, this is a very pertinent thread.

Since I own both Android phones and iPhones, it gives one an excellent perspective on the different platforms.

What I find both interesting and amusing is the differences in the people using each of these. When one posts in an iPhone forum like this, there is a huge percentage of juvenile, narrow minded responses. It reflects the immature, insecure personalities of the devoted ones. The worshippers of Apple and their idol Steve Jobs.

When posting in an Andriod forum, one experiences an enjoyable adult environment where the dialog is about the devices, not about childish attacks, name calling, or posting mocking images like we see here. Android forums are great educational resources for sharing technical information. This is why there seems to be Android envy. As much as I enjoy my iPhone 4 I think many users of iPhones are a bit fearful of the technical aspects of Android. This is where Apple has excelled at "hiding" the inner workings, thus making iPhones seem less threatening to those who are tech phobic.

I do believe that if those particular iPhone users would challenge themselves to be open minded, get out from under the thumb of Steve Jobs, they would find an exciting new world out there.

There are a lot of rational people on this forum. Sadly, they seemed to get drowned out by those members who are 100 percent PEFECT targets for Apple's marketing and PR. Without trying to sound too "old" - many could learn a thing or two from REALLY reading The Catcher in the Rye and also learning to ask themselves the right question when confronted by the media and/or company PR.

It's amazing to me what a high tech world we live in now with access to so much information yet the younger generation is often too lazy to do thorough research and question the way it's either presented or who is doing the presenting. You can see how quickly a rumor on someone's blog can become "fact" for example. And that alone is quite sad.

This is so not true with my experience. I own Blackberries, Android Phones, and Nokia phones and if you created a discussion like this on other forums you will get the same treatment as you receive here. Whether that's right or wrong is up for one to judge, but there are die hard fans out there that will bash all posters that don't agree with perspective points of view in their perspective forums.

+1 plus there was already a couple of other android threads here with discussions going on, why make yet another just to rehash whats in the other threads rather than just continuing one of the existing ones unless you wanna stir up an argument.

You could ask the same for dozens of other topics that get many threads.

Dear Jaded,
I call BS on that, you are pretty full of yourself aren't you. Whatever you need to say or do to justify you owning your inferior device. Nobody wants to listen to your BS. You talk so much about Steve Jobs like you know him personally. Get over it already and move on, you argue the same points in all the droid threads.

Kudos for your excellent assessment.

Your statement about a rumor becoming a fact is especially notable. While it's simply my opinion, I do believe this is what happened in the case of Antennagate. A small issue was initially blown up in the blogosphere, then quite ironically fueled by Apple themselves. Had Apple acted responsibly and shown interest in the customers concerns, this would have passed as a minor issue.

But no, Jobs ego prevented him from being sensitive to the customers they claim to love. Instead he became defensive, then set out to point fingers at others saying they all do that. Proving his reality distortion field is where he lives. After all he's perfect, his products are perfect, and anyone that fails to suck up to him, is the enemy. Hence the vast number of minions that take his side and blindly defend him.

It's a near carbon copy of the Dead Heads, a hippy group that worshiped Jerry Garcia & The Grateful Dead. People with hero worship placed above their own selves.

I don't think so. The iPhone 4 form factor is almost perfect to hold in your hand. Apple didn't decide on the size arbitrarily, they decided based on a number of focus group tests and research. People actually prefer this size. I have small hands and can't imagine holding something larger. Even my business partner's Blackberry Curve feels unwieldy compared to my iPhone 4.

this place would be quite educational and a great resource if the android people stopped coming here to stir up arguments, you don't see iPhone users going on android forums doing the same childish things....
