Apple will not launch a new 12.9-inch iPad Pro with a mini-LED display until at least the second quarter of the year, which begins on April 1, according to industry sources cited by DigiTimes.

From today's report:
Epistar has become the exclusive supplier of miniLED chips to be used in 12.9-inch miniLED-backlit iPad Pro, with nearly 50% of the corresponding production capacity booked up for the tablet and volume shipments to begin in the second quarter of 2021, the sources said.
Last week, DigiTimes reported that the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro could launch at the end of March, or early in the second quarter. The publication is now shifting, explicitly stating that mass shipments for the new iPad will begin in the second quarter. At the same time last week, speculation grew that Apple will hold an event on Tuesday, March 23.

That event, yet to be confirmed, is rumored to include the launch of AirTags, AirPods 3, and new iPad Pro models. If DigiTimes is to be believed, however, the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro with a mini-LED display will not launch until at least April.

Apple has several products in the pipeline with mini-LED displays. Compared to regular LCDs, mini-LED offers higher brightness, improved contrast ratio, and is expected to become the new standard amongst Apple's future products, including a 14-inch MacBook Pro.

Does Digitimes ever get it right?

Because Apple is doing events on line, they are becoming logistically much more flexible, so they must be getting good kick out of shoving finger at rumor sites.

If they skip March but decides to hold event in April, it will not be just for iPads and tracker; expect one more thing and announcr apple car plan

I haven’t pulled the trigger on a M1 Mac because I want to see what the new iPad Pro has to offer. I truly believe the iPad Pro is the future of the Mac. It can technically run both iOS and Mac software with touch and pencil support, which I think it eventually will.
The MacBook and regular iPads can stay as they are to please those that are devoted to those form factors, but Apple should run with the iPad Pro and give it all the capabilities to make it the perfect mobile computer, which I think it almost is.

Just 2 weeks till April, no serious leaks of pre production units/parts, no press release, no invites....

Yeah I'm gonna predict nothing (new) gonna ship till April !!!!!!

Well normally it is two or three months after Apple registers a new product and they bring it out. And Apple has not registered any products.

Well it strange you got third party bringing out cases. It could be they just reading the rumors here and on other web sites.

But with out Apple registering any product it is very unlikely a iPad is coming out this month or next month.

So definitely no March event then because if AirPods 3 have been delayed until the third quarter and iPad have been delayed until April there is no need for a March event just to announce an April release for one product. As for Airtags....well no news on those whatsoever

Unless you are doing video editing and playing high end 3D games it makes no sense to get iPad pro.

The iPad Air and basic iPad is well okay for basic stuff.

Folks were using the 2018 iPad Pro to edit videos that the MacBooks couldn’t. Some were even using them to run their Youtube channels until the M1’s hit the market.
Which “high end 3D games” were you running on the previous MacBook Air?

Your beliefs are based on nothing other than wishful thinking and your clearly incorrect understanding of the iPad’s position in the entire product line. Apple has stated on multiple occasions that they are not combining the iPad and the Mac and that touchscreen Macs are not something they will ever pursue. Your suggestion of a device that runs both iPadOS and macOS also contravenes Apple’s long-established stance of not compromising on user experience. A Mac-iPad-2-in-1 will never happen despite your greatest fantasies.

the event is apparently happening in April now.

I don’t always like his style, but kudos to Prosser if he actually shaves his eyebrows for being wrong about Mar 23.

Side note: I imagine given rumour from many people about Mar 23, that if apple needs to make a change it’ll be much easier for them with the online events now.

iPad Pro is not the future of the Mac.

Besides the fact that management has repeatedly stated the two serve different purposes and make no sense to combine, you still can't code on the iPad Pro and you still can't develop software, iOS apps or otherwise.

The way many programmers are able to streamline their creation is through a shortcut-heavy, full-sized, full-powered keyboard, and low-level access to the console and directory through the terminal, homebrew, git, installing things like python, node, etc. The iPad, a device geared towards consumers, doesn't allow low-level access, and you still can't turn off animations, freely navigate the file system, and crawl it via command line. It's just not built to be a device from which you develop, and no amount of touch control is going to enable that.

Think the word you’re looking for is he can be a flog most of the time.

If he does shave them, it’ll be a publicity stunt, most likely hoping it’ll get him more followers.

Lol not sure the exact meaning of flog. Is it something British?

Btw, I was at the Liverpool derby in Dec 2019 at Anfield. Man do I miss these games in person.

Apple has been saying the Mac and the iPad won’t merge and yet iOS and MacOS look even more similar every WWDC and Big Sur is very touch friendly and now they run the same processors. John Sculley said the Macintosh would not replace the Apple II and it was very important to the Apple brand. Why can’t I buy a new Apple II in 2021? In January 2002 Steve Jobs took the stage and said the CRT was officially dead with the release of the iMac G4. In April of 2002 Apple released the eMac G4.. with a CRT. I’m not saying the Mac and iPad will merge, you’re probably right, I’m just saying Apple doesn’t always tell the truth when it comes to product release plans.

Announce on 23 March, available to buy a week or two later in early April. That sounds plausible to me.
