I’m not saying whether it’s worth it or not. I’m saying don’t comment on what people can or cannot afford on this forum.
One thing is being able to afford it and a different thing is willing to spent this kind of money. So I will rephrase it for you "The vast majority of people won't even consider spending this kind money for a notebook". This is true and has been a true for the past few decades where the Mac business is still struggling to catch up with the competition in terms of sales and Im not even comparing it with the rest of Apple producs that basically dominate their respective categories (iPhone, iPad, AirPods and Apple Watch). The new Macbook Air should have started at 899$ in order to get millions of people of the Mac train and get Apple on two digits market share which would have further strengthened the ecosystem and increased the user base.

Until there’s tactile feedback and I can use it without having to look at it, it remains useless regardless of ability to customize.
It's not ideal, but BetterTouchTool does add Haptic feedback to the default touchbar as well! You can also add custom HUD-style visual feedback.

Stop repeating the same over and over again because there will be no October event this yet or else the invites would’ve already been sent. This new MacBook Pro could be released in March next year, at best.
The sales during the holiday season are x4 more compared to a regular March. If Apple miss the opportunity to release the product on time for Christmas which is most likely their target timeframe, then there is probably some serious logistic or technical issue. The same applies for the new Mac Pro.

With the right upgraded internals I imagine a lot of people would bite at that price.
Upgraded internal? Like what? They cant put higher voltage CPU compared to the MBP 15 as they cant manage the heat and the power consumption. They cant put a more powerfull GPU also for the same reason. More RAM? Again, hurting power consumption. If the main objective is 10 hours of battery life and a slim desigh (and we know thatthis is always the top priority), then they just cant phisically put more horsepower even in a slightly bigger chassy compared to the MBP 15. Plain and simple. Newer generation CPU and GPU, better display and the good old scissor keyboard and thats all. Forget receiving H famility CPU or desktop class GPU. It is just not possible.

If this thing really does come out with better thermals and GFX card, it's gonna be such a tough decision for me (had my 2014 haswell 15" MBP for 5 years now), cause Catalina has broken compatibility with ALL my professional audio production software and plugins.. Nothing works at this time.. I'd still have my imac pro on Mojave but heck even most of my steam games are incompatible.. and who knows with older games if they'll ever update them. I would hazard a guess that many games have 32 bit code so will never work. However on the other hand, I'd hate to buy the current weaker model and still pay through the roof for it (2.3ghz 8 core i7 as i9 is a joke for 100mhz more vs price, 32GB ram, Vega 20 and 2TB ssd is $6259 AUD which means I will keep it 5 years again.. although they seem to be increasing all the time as my 2014 was maxed out and was 4K, 1TB ssd, 2.8ghz quad, 16gb ram, 750M Nvidia). But at least with the current model, even though they'll force ship it with Catalina, i can do a format as soon as i receive it and install Mojave using the boot disk installer i have.. I really don't think I can go to Catalina sadly and I am sure they will release something really tempting, with my biggest annoyance at the macbook pros being it's thermals since the aluminium unibody was created. If they don't fix the thermals on the 16", then I'd be much happier sticking to the current model. Anyway.. I reckon they will just stealth drop it out of the blue.. let's see!

I use the hell out of my computers, so I have no problem justifying the cost (within reason).
However I will have a hard time opening my wallet for a laptop which is shy on ports. Whenever I have looked at the touchbar Macs I really miss the no-nonsense HDMI port that my retina laptop has. I'd also like to see a return of the SD card reader. But that along with vanilla USB ports seem to be too mundane for present day Apple to include.

The 15” MacBook Pro has always used Intel’s 45w TDP H-series CPUs. The 2019 top model runs the Core i9-9980HK.

GPUs have always been where the biggest restriction in wattage is because Apple is trying to keep the entire package within a 100w TDP envelope, especially now with USB-C PD being used to charge and power the MacBook Pro.

Can't see apple release a 16 inch MacBook pro, which is a new line of product, as just a press release.

There won't be any event because:

1) Apple would have to publicly explain why the rollback to scissors keys

2) Apple doesn't care much about the Mac anymore

Apple made a Mac only event when they announced the Air redesign because the Air is probably the most sold Apple laptop of all times, but I doubt it will do the same for the MBP.

Anyway, what I want to know is if they will finally get rid of the ****ing touchbar.

The above post is absolutely ridiculous, sorry.

Apple doesn't have to explain anything. And they do care about the Mac. They have a new one in production.

Well, I was wrong. Looks like no event announcement today.

The only last thing I can offer...

Last year's event happened on the last Tuesday of the month and invites were sent out on the Friday before -- just 4 days notice.

Perhaps...

I think it will cost 3299 for the i7 and 3599 for the i9. Configured with vega, 4000+

So it'll actually cost less than the current $7,000 Macbook Pros, then. (Or only $5,000 if you get by on a 2TB HD) . To be honest, it was a HUGE stretch for me back in 2007 when I bought my first Macbook Pro for more than $3,000, but I got used to that being the price. Now I'm resigned that there's nothing I can use in the line up that is cheaper than $4,000+. So I just have to save up longer. But that's all the more reason why it better be WORTH so much.

Last years invites went out very early, not 4 days. October 18th for event on the 30th.

EDIT: I see that timeline is incorrect.

BTW going by this link http://aaplinvestors.net/marketing/events/, Apple announced the Tuesday event on a Friday last year.

So there's a possibility of an invite until this Friday.

Invite: October 26, 2018 — “There’s more in the making.”
Event: October 30, 2018 — New iPad Pro, MacBook Air, Mac mini.

Of course, there's the whole 'October event only every two years' pattern as well, so who knows.

Well realistically $3999 on a Macbook Pro sounds really insane. What makes it worth it though?
Back in July 2012 I bought the newly announced MacBookPro 15" Retina and maxed it out (2.7ghz i7processor upgrade, 16GB RAM, 768gb SSD) and it cost just over $4000. It has been my daily driver for over 7 years and is still going strong with Catalina to boot. Except for a new airport card to get AC speed wifi and a battery replacement I haven't done anything. I consider that $4000 well spent. I am eyeing the 16" as a replacement but it isn't speed, memory, or storage that is driving it - to be honest I want the 500nit screen brightness (and sidecar).

Maxed out 2019 15” 2.4GHz/32GB/4TB/Vega20 is $5149. Leave at 2.3GHz and “live” with the 2TB SSD and the cost is $4149, not $7k and barely above $5K FULLY kitted.

I need a new computer and I’m waiting for this one to be announced before making the plunge, even though I’m concerned about buying Gen 1 of anything Apple.
I'm still using the original retina macbook pro from 2012, has held up great. Only needed a battery replacement a year or two ago. But starting to get that itch for a fresh machine....

Every Macintosh I have ever owned was maxed-out and cost me $3000:

• 1988 Macintosh SE, 40MB (yes, MB) external harddisk & 16-color graphics card supporting a 15" monitor
• 1991 Macintosh IIsi
• 1999 PowerBook G3 'Wallstreet' with DVD drive/card
• 2003 PowerBook G4 17" (original version)
• 2009 MacBook Pro 17" (my current computer, working flawlessly on Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.5)

I would absolutely buy a 16" MacBook Pro but keep my beloved 17" to run legacy 32-bit programs and a backup of my iTunes library.

If they dont send any invitations for special event tomorrow, then we probably need to wait till next WWDC...
