It is also going to be announced and shipped several months before any "M2" product. You think they're going to introduce the M2X months before the M2? Lol.
16" Intel is done...the Mac Pro is the only Intel Mac likely to get an update at this point. The future is Apple Silicon, not Intel.
It could be the “one more thing“ at the end of the iPhone event. Either that or they’ll have another event 2-3 weeks later and the new MBPs will pre-order and ship very soon after.DigiTimes… *Yawn*
What in the world are you talking about?
September is exclusively reserved for iPhone and Apple Watch.
End of this month after the earnings call ☎️ or More likely 2nd week of October.
Most likely an event in October but could be tacked on to the iPhone event as one more thing.Given the global situation much of the timing is out of the control of Apple (even with their supply chain power and prowess)... I'm sure they wanted to catch the post-Covid back-to-school wave (though the Mx Pros will still be a blowout)...
So shoot for the holiday season (likely with tight supplies)... I'm guessing late Oct to mid Nov (with Monterey) with shipping in December in order to get the new MBPs under the tree.
Yes, that's Q4, but I don't hold much regard for Digitimes' dart throwing (though mine isn't any better).
I think the new MBPs will be awesome machines... but they won't be "mind blowing"... will feel like a solid generational upgrade to the current Intel MBPs vs. "this changes everything"
Which lines up perfectly for an early October event with pre-orders that same Friday or a week after, shipping soon after that. Or an announcement as “one more thing” after the iPhone event, shipping late October.Back to school runs through 9/26 so I believe the new laptops won’t be announced until after back to school ends.
Probably. Or, October announcement and late October availability to counteract the perception of constrained supplies. (In other words, an announcement closer to availability alleviates bad PR due to lack of availability).iPhones: September announcement for September availability.
Macs: October announcement for November availability.
What I particularly like about this article is that the title starts with "Digitimes".
After months of rumors and speculation, Apple plans to announce its redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro featuring mini-LED displays, an all-new design, and a faster Apple silicon processor in September of this year, according to a report from DigiTimes.

According to the paywalled report, which revealed that Apple is planning a significant investment in bolstering mini-LED production, Apple plans to unveil its redesigned MacBook Pros in the late portion of the third quarter of this year. The third quarter runs July through September, and Apple has typically reserved product announcements during the summer for its annual iPhone event, which traditionally occurs in September.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman recently indicated that the next few weeks will be quiet as Apple is not planning any major announcement or product reveals until the launch of its new iPhones in the fall. That reporting would corroborate DigiTimes' claim of a late third-quarter launch, likely happening in September.
DigiTimes further reports today that shipments of the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will peak in October. Shipments peaking in October makes the likelihood of a September announcement even greater, given that suppliers of mini-LED displays continue to run dry. Like the M1-powered iPad Pro launch, Apple may announce the new MacBook Pros during an event in September but not yet begin shipping the device until later the next month.
The new MacBook Pros will feature the most radical redesign to the MacBook line in recent years. The new MacBook Pros are expected to feature a flat-edged design, more ports, including HDMI and an SD-card slot reader, a faster iteration of the M1 Apple silicon chip, and brighter and more vibrant displays thanks to the inclusion of mini-LED technology.

Unfortunately, Intel’s 11th Gen H-Series would require a new motherboard (new chipset) and new validation with Thunderbolt 4 now on the CPU die and PCIe Gen 4 NVMe storage needed as well as a new GPU, because the 5300/5500/5600M makes no sense anymore. All of this would require new drivers, lots a validation, et al. and then put it in the existing chassis. Simply not something Apple is going to do with all their engineering efforts put into getting two new ASi MacBook Pros out the door.guess I’ll have to settle for an old 9th gen and pray it lasts until I retire lol
Yeah, no way Apple is including them on BTS this year. They want to make a splash and they’re already supply constrained. The new 14”/16” will come standard with Monterey, never seeing Big Sur, which is what Apple wants/intends.Back to school runs through 9/26 so I believe the new laptops won’t be announced until after back to school ends.
Hate when I double post.Back to school runs through 9/26 so I believe the new laptops won’t be announced until after back to school ends.
This is not likely at all. We aren't "skipping" anything. The chip that is in the new MacBook Pro existed a year ago, and was reported on. They didn't just move to a new chip architecture because it has taken a couple extra months to get it out the door. The product was designed from the start with the M1X.

Sept as many here have said is just no go with that being the usual time for iPhone rollouts. After months of rumors and speculation, Apple plans to announce its redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro featuring mini-LED displays, an all-new design, and a faster Apple silicon processor in September of this year, according to a report from DigiTimes.

Depends on timing and supply chain forecasting, if apple knew they would have supply constraints then they may have held off on production of the M1X, I find the idea of releasing an M2 and then and M1X for pros on last years technology more laughable. This is not likely at all. You mean the mock-ups look amazing?! Believe me, the "real" MacBook Pros will look different.Apple will ship These macs as soon as they possibly can. They look amazing, too! I can hardly wait!!

I believe they meant to announce at WWDC but mini-LED supply was constrained (there's another Digitimes mini-LED article on MR right now that implies that).I just find this timing weird. Even if there was a delay in getting the actual MBPs in one's hands, I don't know why Apple would not at least announce something when Back To School season hits. That's a major time for laptop purchases and there are plenty of students that need or simply want a high-end MBP.
I was wrong about the WWDC announcement timing, but really thought Apple would announce something in July before people began to allocate their back-to-school budgets.
Do we now believe that even Apple's massive supply chain and future purchase power with Taiwan Semi-Conductor was affected by the pandemic, or is this R&D taking longer than expected to manage power, temperatures, and speed on the second-gen M-chip?
Thoughts?
