So much money just to have it crash half of the time.

Maybe you need a better ISP? I've had NFL Sunday Ticket online the past 3 years for my Mac, and had only one crash, and that was week 1. But yeah check out your ISP.

And honestly, this is about time. I am thrilled for this and the 199 package is cheaper than i paid previous years. Thrilled!

Go Pats.

How many people can be logged in at a time? This would be killer if you could split the cost between several people.

In previous years I was only allowed to login with one user at a time.....they try to keep out the cheapos....

And the last domino has fallen. TV subscribers are going to flee en masse.

I wonder how much of this decision was influenced by the resounding success of the World Cup ratings.

For what it's worth, the graphics say "Follow your team every Sunday, no matter where you are!"

Yes, directly under where it says "out of market games". :)

So as long as you're not in market, I guess it doesn't matter where you are!

$40 more for consoles

Why in the hell does it cost console owners 40 dollars more? Crock of ****.

Because of licensing. They don't have to pay anything extra to stream online to your browser of choice. However, with a console, there is application development/support/updating and then they have to pay the console companies like Sony, Roku, Microsoft, Apple, etc.

$40 still seems excessive though.

Another note, this is not the first time that the Sunday ticket was available without a DirecTV subscription. A few years ago, (guessing around 2010) you were able to buy and watch games exclusively on the PS3. I believe that only lasted one season though.

interesting

I love the NFL.

But I'm never around in the fall to watch it so I won't be purchasing.

I do, however, LOVE the idea of a standalone subscription because I seeing (hoping/praying), this is the beginning - maybe HBO, AMC etc.etc... follow suit.

ESPN/ABC/Disney still have a monopoly on college football, tied to cable subscriptions. That would be the last domino. IMO.

If I already have the Sunday Ticket can I get it on my mac and iPhone?

Hey. Now that I live in Texas I have to have a way to see my Steelers games. :p

Not a big NFL fan, so won't be subscribing; but good to see it there. I still get annoyed (at all sports) about blocking "in-market" viewing. Even worse are the leagues that block online viewing if it is available on TV on *ANY* station locally.

It's hard to fully cut the cord when they don't let you watch live! (My experience is MLS - my local team is aired locally every match, either on local broadcast (about 1/4 of the time,) local cable (a little over 1/2,) or national cable (the rest - a little under 1/4.) I don't subscribe to cable, so I can't watch the ~3/4 of matches that only air on cable. I'd happily pay the fee if I could watch them live! (I do have season tickets, so I go to local matches, so the local ones don't matter to me. But I know it annoys others - every match is a sellout - so it's not like they'd cut in to local ticket sales, either.)

From the webpage:

The506.com used to have a lucid explanation of NFL blackout rules and primary/secondary team markets but they seem to have taken it down since I last looked at it.

Every year it seems like around this time someone up for re-election seems to bring this up as needing federal regulation to stop, but that's usually as far as it gets.

Any team that asks for and receives local taxpayer money should never be allowed to have games be blacked out in that area. Period, end of story.

still way too much when you can watch the games for free on firstrowsports or xbmc

I'd rather pay $200 than deal with the crappy quality and overall annoyingness of dealing with sites like firstrowsports. Lagging, sometimes poor quality, and constant crashing of links makes it not very enjoyable to watch the Jets (which is not very enjoyable to begin with :D).

I get the equivalent of this in the UK, it costs me $222 a year for access on all devices, from preseason to the Super Bowl, including access to archived games going back to 2009 and the NFL network, although games broadcast in the UK (one a week and most of the playoffs) are blacked out for live broadcast. I hope that this signals NFL GamePass coming to the Apple TV outside of the USA soon.

In a market with a greater demand, which the USA undoubtably is, I think a 50% price increase isn’t completely unreasonable. I mean, its not great for you guys however over a third more of the games are viewable at reasonable times - 18:30 Sunday games with Monday and Thursday night football all finish early in the morning - between three and four normally.

From a more resentful angle; you guys get so many things far, far cheaper than we do, so maybe you could suck it up and enjoy the option to go further in your cable cutting. :p Not only that, but some of you live near enough to a franchise city and might actually get to go see a game once in a while (they say, completely aware that they go see every game played in the UK every year…)

In more important news; Go Steelers!

Perhaps Apple TV support hasn't been announced yet because NFL Sunday Ticket will be a key content feature for the new Apple TV this fall...

When I did this a few years ago it was an "upgrade" to the basic package. (Depending on how loyal/profitable customer you are to DTV I have got this for "free" by haggling a bit with the rep. Check slickdeals forums for more pointers.)

That's pretty pathetic they're charging more for consoles. What makes streaming to a console more expensive than a phone or tablet? Oh that's right, greed. F the NFL.

Awesome! Thanks! I'll have to check that out.

I tried to go with the Sunday Ticket app only last year after getting it free with my DirecTV subscription the year before. It sucked. I mean, it was better than nothing, but it was buggy and it crashed a lot, and lagged a ton.
And it wouldn't let me mirror to my apple TV unless i mirrored the whole iPad display. But even that wasn't worth it since it crashed so much.

Wild guess, but I am going to assume that since there isnt even an app for it on the ATV yet, they wont announce until one is near or just on there one day after an update. They seem to add apps/channels to the ATV randomly, so I expect the same here???? just assumptions though :)

Read above you, dude replied with the answer as to why...

Yes. If you purchase the Sunday Ticket "Max" add-on. I think its about $50 or so extra for the season.

I had this last year, and I couldn't even log on through my ipad if I was watching on my laptop. Even if the laptop was closed. I had to go in and physically log out.

Here's a pro-tip: Get a web proxy in Europe and buy the package that NFL sells outside the U.S. It is cheaper and works great. As a plus, you're sticking it to the d-bags at DTV.
