need a dial pad

I'm really hoping they add a dial pad soon to the phone app.

When someone buzz's up to my apartment, it goes through my cell phone and I press 9 to let them in. Would be nice to do that from the watch.

i meant the other way around, example dial a number from your phone then switch to your watch

Why the heck would you do that? to annoy people around you?

It's hard enough to enter a passcode when the watch isn't on your wrist. I don't know how they would fit a full dialing UI into the that limited amount of space.

It is just intended for quick and common functions, so you'll be able to call to the friends you set up, but that's it. Keep in mind this is not supposed to be a phone strapped to your wrist, it is just a companion to enhance the phone during common tasks

Id like the option for it to be a wrist phone tbqh.

You can only start a call from the Watch by using the contacts wheel or by using Siri.

yea so far i've been using siri, and contacts wheel you have to add one friend at a time and i believe there is a limit too, wonder why we can't just see all contacts

Its has nothing to do with people around me, if i want to make a phone call from my watch why can't dial the number from the watch? especially if i can't handoff from phone to watch if i start the call on my phone

Some of the responses here have been pretty thoughtless.

Re: All the claims that it's too small of a screen for a phone dialer, or that Apple always wants people to use the crown instead.

Total nonsense.

There are tons of calculator apps with small buttons already available. E.g.

Re: Why would I want to dial from the watch?

An on-watch dialer would be handy for the same reason you might want to take a call on the watch. Because it's more convenient at times.

For instance, I often am laying down watching TV, when a call comes in while my phone is in another room. It's incredibly handy to be able to take it right now on a watch, without having to get up.

The same convenience factor works in reverse. What if you need to call a number someone just texted you? Or heck, what if you need to call 911 for help immediately, and you can't speak well enough to get Siri to work?

Agree with everything you said +1

Ok, so what do you do when you call customer service on your WATCH and it prompts you "Press 5 to speak to an operator?"

I can place receive and save calls directly from my gear s.

Samsung copies the Apple look and turns it into a watch. Meanwhile Apple goes a completely different direction. Wonder how long it will take for Samsung to copy.

Umm, Samsung had the 'gear' which looks nothing like an apple product years ago

I hate to admit that I do not know anyone phone number as the phone keeps them in contacts. I would have to look in my phone to find out what it is!

Anyway Siri does it well

This makes no sense. If you don't know the persons number then you have them as a contact in your phone anyway. Just use Siri to say their name. Only time you use dial by number is when they aren't in your phone and even then you can tell Siri the #

Gear S is not android wear.

True, but neither is the Apple Watch. Doesn't matter. The topic is a remote dialer.

If Apple did it, then they should also be able to leave the keypad up, just like on other devices.

Imagine your daughter hiding under her bed from intruders, and she needs to call 911 without speaking above a whisper.

Imagine yourself alone, choking on a piece of food and gasping for breath, and your phone is on another floor.

Or maybe you just want to dial a number while your phone is in your purse, but don't want to speak the number itself in public.

Or as someone pointed out, what if you need to touch the numbers to get through an answer menu.

Thank goodness that people who want to prevent new functionality don't run the world, or we'd never have anything new and useful.

I know, how hard did it suck.. it still sucks... I've heard it said here before. Throw enough crap at the wall and hopefully something will stick.
