Thats with Chrome. The problem isn't the browser, its the inconsistency of the wireless connection. Same table in the living room, he's browsin around on the web, and I can't connect to the network. BBOD constantly. Restart and it works until it goes into hibernation again. I refused to accept "wipe the partition and reinstall" as a valid option on a Mac. If this is what Lion has done to the support community for the Mac, then we have a serious, serious problem.

Well you did not mention that, did you?
Just some snarky remark about Vista and Mac's "just work". Well time marches on and right now Mac's "Just don't work" if you need the latest and greatest. They did last year. If you have not noticed tech moves pretty fast. 10.7.1 and even the new 10.7.2 patch are not cutting it for me. I've stayed with 10.6.8.
Zap the PRAM, reset the SMC or do a fresh install and migrate user files by hand to avoid issues. Wipe and re-install is the way it is for ALL computers sometimes when you grow tired of fiddling around with fixing. It is a mercy call. May not even fix it if it is a firmware kernel extension bug. Just have to wait for a suitable patch. Yes, just like Windows.

Yeah, I didn't my bad. I hate ambiguity.

I realize time marches on, however one can reasonably expect things to improve, and not digress. I would have rather waited for Lion to work correctly, then get it in the state it is in.

I just remember my A1226 with 10.5.2 was a disaster. Confirmed problems from Apple, and they had a patch out in a week or two. I KNOW that Apple employees read these forums. I know they acknowledge the Wifi issues, especially with older 15" MBP, yet no patch.

The tech guys at school have label Lion "Mac's Vista." While I think that is a little extreme, it is probably more akin to Windows ME. For the most part it works, but adds nothing substantial to the user experience and slows everything way down.

And if I intended to keep this computer I'd wipe and reinstall. I've got the MBP 5,1 and am about ready to replace it with the next gen. I can deal with most of this BS for another 6 months or so. However, every once in a while when I am surfin the net, the BBOD pops up, and I have to restart to get the interweb working again, I just have to vent a little.

Two iMac's and an Air and I have none of the problems you mention. In fact I had wifi drops after waking from sleep on my Mid 2011 iMac and installing Lion FIXED the issue for me.

I've never even had a "kernal panic" on SL or Lion.

With Snow Leopard installed on my 2011 iMac I was getting 108Mb/s with my wireless connection. With Lion installed on the same machine I am now able to get 162Mb/s. Go figure :cool:

I do have a question for all the people that seem very angry with how Lion works for them. Have you attempted to contact Apple regarding the issues you are having?

I wanted 10.7 to be stable as well. It's what you get from such a secretive company with little public beta testing. In my experience 10.7 should be installed on nothing less than 7,1 Macbook pro w/ 320m or faster. The others GPU's are not up to the extra heat and superfluous graphics Lion doles out.

Yep, talked to a Genius and was told these were "known" issues. Also filed bug logs with Apple. For me this is just about waiting for the patch and I know it will be fixed. However, I can't help but think about all those Apple commercials that took shots at Microsoft and here they are doing the same thing. It makes me chuckle....:D

I'm on a Late 2007 MacBook (GMA X3100) with 10.7 and I'm not getting any heat issues. :/

So before I report you for totally uncalled for personal attacks, let me get this straight:

- You confirm that your machine can receive Lion as per Apple's requirements;
- You have wiped your computer clean;
- You have not used Migration Assistant at all;
- You have applied all Mac and Lion updates so far;
- You have only used Apple or Lion-compatible gear with your setup;
- You are 100% sure that there is nothing wrong with your hardware environment.

After confirming all of the above, you still face all sorts of problems reported by the OP in your 2008 Mac (whatever that is), including nonstop random freezes and kernel panics?

In other words, are you saying that Lion 10.7.1 is INCOMPATIBLE with your Mac?

Thank you.

Speaking only for myself, I'll share this.

My 2011 13" i5 MBP won't take Lion without a major stomach ache. I'm very confident with using computers far ahead of a typical user, however even I started to doubt that my Lion installation procedures because I couldn't get myself to believe that Lion would have all these problems on a clean install and sell brand new machines that come with Lion installed in stores. For the first time in years, I actually started to suspect that the problems I ran into was due to something I was doing wrong.

So I took my machine and Lion app to an Apple Store and let them try and install it. Keep in mind I installed nothing after Lion, only used what came with Lion and whatever online update Apple offered (10.7.1). I thought perhaps something was wrong with my machine, Apple "techs" gave it a shot, ran into the same exact problems. They pulled another identical MBP off the floor (demo), repeated the same procedures and had the exact problems I did. After letting them do whatever they wanted for a week, they called me up and said they don't know what to tell me and suggested that I wait to see what comes up in future updates.

So for me, I was happy that I had the SL option to get out of that mess. The only feature I had fun with on Lion was AirDrop... everything else that made Lion special IMHO were gimmicks to me.

Sounds like it's time for a clean install.

it doesn't make any difference. Almost every bug I found in Lion when I upgraded was still there after doing a clean install, on three different machines. A 2008 15 inch Mac Book Pro, 2009 Mac Pro, and a 2010 Macbook Air.

Lion was not thought out very well and was not ready for release, plain and simple. Its great that eveyone who has "no problems" and likes Lion likes to keep defending it, but it doesn't change the fact that there are many many more people who have issues with it.

Whats funny is the number of posts I see that go something like this:

"No problems here, everthing works great... except for/how do i/why did the change..."

Its very clear that even the users who "like" it, would still change it, and usually its back towards what Snow Leopard offered.

Lion has an improvement in the form of a game built into the system. The game is called Mission Control and the object of the game is to find the window that it hid behind the other similar windows.

Have fun!

Man, I must be winning the game! I like Mission Control.

LMAO!

So true. I couldnt stand Lion before trying it out. Once I got my macbook pro with Lion installed, I gave it *ONE DAY* and downloaded the 10.6.6 install discs to get rid of this horribly executed OS.

Also, for those that don't use spaces or dashboard, the thumbnail and grey border should NOT appear when activating Mission Control. Why the hell does the desktop wallpaper need to be scaled down to show me my open windows? Not only does this slow down mission control, but all the extra CRAP that apple added to it makes using it more confusing than what Expose was.

Anyway, I'm back to Snow Leopard. Runs a lot better and my productivity is greatly improved.

I wonder how Apple feels about releasing their own 'Windows Millennium Edition' OS....
