Can you notice the difference with the wider color screen and picture? Those of us who don't have a wide color screen can't see it.

Also, take a non macro or non up close photo...like a landscape or a garden and compare those for us. I'm curious if we will see a big difference there.

Also...does the front camera seem a lot better?

No, can't really tell much of a difference on a wide color screen. To me the front camera seems great but I haven't done a side by side comparison there. I would expect the 7 to be more detailed.

Somebody asked for a landscape shot...here's one. First one is from the 6S and the 2nd is from the 7. I would say they are equally sharp but the 6S shots are definitely more saturated (and closer to the actual color of the sky).

[doublepost=1474230422][/doublepost]
Yep, but this year was supposed to be something truly better for the base model...image stabilization with a faster lens that took better photos in low light. Waiting to see what the professional reviewers have to say. But just comparing my 7 to my 6S, I'm sad to say the 6S photos look better. I wish that wasn't the case but that's what I see.

Unfortunately, Apple is a marketing expert, thank god there's still a few of us who love to review and check the devices in depth, just imagine the amount of people that's going to upgrade this year and there's not reason to, bastards!

There is an improvement!!! What you folks are missing or not understanding is the cameras optics. On the iPhone 6s/plus the aperture is f/2.2 and in low light, that aperture forces the camera to use an ISO adequate for that aperture. So, the real comparison between a shot from the 6s vs the 7 is the ISO. The iPhone 7 / plus has f/1.8, therefore the same photo will have an ISO 50% less than that of the 6s. The image may have the same exposure, but the 7 /plus will look less grainy or noisy because of the lower ISO.

Same thing would happen with my Nikon D810, an f/1.4 lens would look cleaner than a lens at f/4. Plus the iPhone 7 now has 6 lens elements which helps with bringing in more light. I think the new sensor in the 7 looks good, so start comparing photos in low light and look at the ISO difference.

Well I can tell you did not lower the exposure here because the whites of the clouds are blown out. Having HDR on would have made the dynamic range more pleasing. This would have also darkened the blue of the sky that you mentioned.

But I understand that this was just a test, just the camera app and no adjustments. I think you should retest and try to get the best image possible from each iPhone by adjusting the exposure and highlights. Use the exact same settings on each because just opening the camera app and firing away doesn't do much in way of comparison because the software may see the scene differently depending on where the camera metered for its exposure.

By Wednesday I will have in my home between my wife and I the 6, 6S, 6S+ and 7+. I'll give it at least a few days in order for the screen burn in time to take place, indexing and what not then do a reasonable comparison.

And by the way, the most users thing is BS, many on here are saying the opposite of what you are. Like faster than fast, screen is great after a few days of use and the camera is mostly noticeably better in the lowest of light which is right where you would expect it to be by gaining 2/3rd of a stop.

Stop the BS, give it at least another two weeks so a lot more of the pre-orders can be filled which would allow the new hardware to get in the hands of more people who know what the hell they are looking for and talking about.

I'm a bit stumped. I also compared low light photos between the 6S and 7 in the exact same location, and noticed quite a big difference between the two.

6S:

7:

Not following you here, the top darker image you have marked as the 6S and the brighter bottom one as the 7, is that not the overall desired result?

If you really want to do a side by side, hold both phones up to the same scene and make sure that the overall exposure is the same by using the slider next to the focus spot created when you touch the screen.

Unless you are shooting a really even scene like a brick wall, the two cameras may meter differently, that is why it is best to try and even up the exposures before making the final judgement call.

Former 6S+ owner here and I agree, I've noticed that the photos are very similar and in some cases the 6S+ came out better than the 7+.

https://imgur.com/a/GUZbJ

I'm seeing a bit more shadow detail in the 7's daylight shot, using a different setting like Chrome would boost your saturation and contrast a bit.

The dark ones are no good at all for a real comparison though, we are talking like 6-8 stops of light from the shadows to the clouds, no phone shooting jpegs is going to overcome that. If I shot raw in my Leica M240, D750, D810 & Hasselblad digital back on that shot, the most I would see in those shadows is about a stop difference between any of them. Overexposing the sky two stops and then pulling the highlights back in post would make it about a two stop difference between the 750 and the Hasselblad back in that shadow area.

Like I said above, we need this phone in the hands of folks who truly understand light and limits of super small sensors, otherwise they are not all that representative of what the differences are.

You should stop being one of those Apple apologists, like those who say "Well, I never use the headphone jack anyway."

Next thing you'll hear, someone is going to say "People upgrade their phones so they can play better games? Isn't that what PC's and Consoles are for?"

Why bother upgrading at all? The first gen iPhone is more than enough.
Lol. You've got it all wrong. I upgrade because I HAVE to, not because I want this feature or that ability.
[doublepost=1474265818][/doublepost]
Did you upgrade so you can make better phone calls?
Nope. I upgraded because my iPhone 5 (five) died ;)

That's all a possibility, but we're seeing the real world results. Good luck getting Apple to give you more control of the camera like Samsung does. Extra controls or not, when these images are displayed on a website for everyone to see, it is clear from that CNet article (and youtube videos) that the S7/Note 7 cameras do much better with color and low-light shots.

With Apple, you get what you get, that's it. With Android and Samsung, you can change it to Pro mode and have more manual controls. Samsung easily wins when it comes to camera. Unless Apple does some miracle, update the OS, and somehow upgrade their software to improve the images and videos that comes out of the iPhone 7, Samsung is clearly winning.

I don't have the iPhone 7, but this is one of the factor that is making me decide if I should keep my pre-order.
There are third party apps that allow manual control and RAW output. My point was to test with these controls, I wasn't making a point about the stock app. Maybe remove your bias from the discussion.

I agree about the camera. I have the 7 Plus and it's partially my fault that I didn't do the math on what their definition of a telephoto lens encompasses. The 2 lenses are actually 4mm and 7mm. They just have a 7x crop because the sensor is so tiny. You come out with a field of view similar to a 28mm and 56mm lens (on a regular DSLR). The problem though is that 7mm shows absolutely no characteristics of a 'telephoto' lens. When you do an optical zoom on a camera you'll notice when going from wide to telephoto that the background compresses. Things in the background seem way further away on the telephoto end. This is where blurry backgrounds occur.
The software update with the faux bokeh should be cool, hopefully. It'll at least show some fake telephoto properties.
