iphone 6s on left. 7 on right. I'm reasonably happy with the improvements here.

Yes, iPhone 7 clearly better. It should be. They increased aperture from f/2.2 to f/1.8. That is 2/3 stop in camera terminology, which should be significant in terms of low light performance. For DSLR lenses you can pay many hundred dollars for an extra stop.

I also notice lots of noise in low light.

Third party apps like cortex camera (huge update coming on that one), pro camera 8, manual camera, etc will allow you to use lower ISO's and help reduce the noise.

I started using the RAW option in pro camera 8 and processing my files through adobe photoshop Lightroom mobile app! It makes a huge difference in image quality. Granted there is some "grain" sometimes, but it is only visible at 100%. Besides, all of our cell phone photos usually end up on a forum like facebook or instagram anyway, no one sees them at 100% and if there is noise, it doesn't matter. You won't be printing them....

Nice. Proves that lighting, composition, artistic vision, etc is much more important than a 5% advantage in technical performance between phones.

I'll come clean. I lied. Those photos weren't taken with the iPhone 7. It was taken with a Ricoh GR II, which has a APS-C based sensor on board.

From looking at the multiple reviews of the camera on the iP7/+, there is virtually no improvement, say for some low light situations.

I really wanted to get the 7s plus for the new camera but i am on the fence now. I can get some pretty solid low light pictures from my 6s plus, when i even take them. And to be honest i can make them about as good or "close" with a little trickery app called light room lol.

Now if you are coming from a regular 6 to a 7 i think it makes much more sense.
[doublepost=1474392808][/doublepost]I took this the other night while out with my 6s Plus. Just stopped and took the phone out of my pocket while walking and snapped. I'd say for low lighting it's pretty good. Totally unedited. But if I were to use the Lightroom app I could really dial it up and not only make the lighting better, also the detail & clarity with just presets.

So i do wonder how much of the camera is software stuff on the 7 plus. OTHER than the zoom feature with the second lens.

Really sorry about that. As full sensor sized cameras are getting smaller and smaller it may be worth it for hobbyists and photography enthusiasts to grab a compact camera. The Ricoh GR II cost me $550 and imo well worth it considering the increased quality. Has WiFi on board as well so you can instantly transfer it to your iPhone and put it on the social media platform of your choice.

I agree completely. I have an Oly EM5 that I use with a pancake when I don't feel like carrying my D750. However I just can't really carry a camera around all the time. I'd buy an iPhone Camera Edition any day if it was anything like that panasonic with the M4/3 sensor built in.

The updated camera was one of the main reasons I got the 7 (upgrading from 6S) but I have to say thus far I'm underwhelmed. Took some shots in full daylight today and couldn't tell much of a a difference, slight edge in brightness/sharpness actually to the 6S. I thought fine, the 7 really shines in low light so that's where I will see the big difference. Nope, in all my sample shots in low light the 6S was actually better. The 6S shots were brighter and sharper. For those of you that upgraded from the 6S to the 7 I would love to get your feedback. If you still have both phones try taking pics of something in low light and let me know what you think.
Too bad. Sorry for you.

Where can we see those pictures?
