Meh. Considering cancelling my try-on/have a look later today. I can wait until things become less weird.

I was also disappointed/underwhelmed with the try on. All of the try on models had dead batteries, so you couldn't really see how the OS felt when on the wrist.

The person helping me rushed through 2 options and that was it, not even 10 minutes in length. I get it, they're busy, they have a schedule, which is fine. But the store I was at still has time slots available for try on through the rest of today.

Also, it was awkward. The way in which they would attempt to put the watch on, they got weird when I was adjusting the strap, and they cupped their hands under the watch as I was removing it.

I was able to overhear other try ons. A lot of the dialogue didn't sound natural. You could hear phrases like we've seen leaked recently about their training and how to engage customers during the try on. "How does this band make you feel?", for example. A bit weird overall. Seems like some employees are out of their element.

Definitely got the same vibe from my appointment. He got so nervous that I adjusted the Milanese loop myself. Then he tells me how he doesn't like the Milanese because it catches his arm hair. Then he would meticulously wipe down the watch before putting it back while I'm trying to ask questions. They need to stop acting like it's some priceless heirloom.

That was your mistake right there.

Sorry, I didn't know that apple employees worked on commission.

It should be common sense not to tell the employee that you've preordered online regardless of whether they work on commission (they don't by the way; they may simply want to keep the line moving or adhere to the 2 per person policy if busy).

LOL the wiping down was too much. I know they need to clean it in between uses but man, he was wiping the same watch multiple times during my try on alone.

The same thing happened with the milanese loop for me, lol. I went to adjust it, and he freaked out and that's when he cupped his hands under the watch (my arm was over the mat) ready to catch it in a panic.

Probably because they want to keep things moving and want the watch to look nice for the next person who would like to try it on.

I didn't either. It makes sense I guess since they are selling stuff.

I hadn't told the employee who was helping me that I preordered, but it still felt like a very rushed experience.

I asked to try the silver/white sport and the stainless/milanese options. He came back with a space grey sport saying there weren't any silver/white sports available for try on. Not a big deal, as I was more curious about the feel and weight of the watch. I tried the steel with milanese loop, but then asked if I could try steel with a sport band to really compare the two and he said no, limited to 2 try ons.

Not the end of the world, they're probably nervous and trying to follow procedure.

Actually one thing that surprised me the most, was how small the watches really are. When I put the sport on I couldn't believe how 'thin' it looked and felt. Online the photos and side profiles make it look so bulbous, but it really doesn't seem like that at all in person.

Understandably they want to get through all the appointments and accommodate everyone. That being said, the lady at my appointment this morning in Greenville, SC was great. She let me try on as many variations as I wanted (5) and made sure that I went to the demo unit after the appointment to see it in action.

My Apple employee was super helpful and I had told her upfront that I preordered, it wasn't a rushed experience for me at all. I got to try 3 watches followed by some play time on one of the demo units.

It was REALLY obvious though that this is just as new for them as it is for the customer, she had trouble getting the watch drawer to unlock and she was giving me all the sales lines for each product in a very rehearsed way... I'm not bashing her at all though, she was super-nice and just doing her job, I'd buy her lunch lol! But yes, she also wiped down the watches very frequently -again not a bad thing, but very noticeable. After all, I've never seen them wipe down an iPhone or iPad screen after a demo.

That sucks. There was this other guy who was (I think) posting from the UK and it seemed like they were letting him try on tons of stuff. Perhaps the demand in Europe is lower?

The more I see the milanese next to the link, the more I like the milanese. It's crazy how much it has grown on me. I think I didn't like it initially because I saw it with the 38mm so it was thinner. The wider 42mm band looks much better.

I was in the Greenville store last night right before closing and met an employee so excited about getting the watch in ;) She kept telling me how I needed to come in and see it. They seem great in that store!

Was it really busy?

Mine was smooth. My wife and I each had an appointment, then we went for lunch and she went back again. Minimal wait 5-10 minutes.

When we were trying them on, the employee had a countdown timer running on their smart pay devices. Essentially as many as you wanted in the 15 minute window was how they approached it.

Staff were a little awkward, some more than others, but that's always going to be the case with anything new. No freak outs, or hand cupping, or anything like that.

UGH. I made an appointment for today in a half hour from now and now it's gone.

I went to my 10am appointment at First Colony Mall in Sugar Land, TX pretty excited to be one of the first to try on. I had already preordered last night, but I wanted to try the different bands. I had favorited only the 42 SS Milanese.

Anyways, my genius first pulls then Stainless Link bracelet and put it on me. Really great design. Then, I said I wanted to try the Milanese Loop. Very, very comfortable and igneous design. I really like NATO straps for watches so I appreciated the look.

I told him I had already preordered last night but I wanted to try the different bands. In that much time, he had closed the drawer about 7 minutes into my appointment. I asked could I try the sport band, and he says sorry I can only let you try 2 of them on, you can make another appointment. I was so confused, I didn't even know what to say. I just walked out of the store annoyed. I never liked the people from that particular store, they're much nicer at the bigger stores in Houston. And now I'm here complaining to Macrumors lol

Anyways, I'm still hoping for a 24th delivery date.

How many inches wide is your wrist.

My try-on was odd. The associate helping me didn't even know the price. Quoted me $100 more than actual price.

Specialists should have the discretion to let appointments run a little longer if there isn't anyone wanting. Or let you wear more than two options if time allows.

I can see some of these interactions being quite awkward though- if they're being instructed to help the customer put the thing on and make adjustments, that's quite a personal interaction. Some will be better than it than others.

Apple associates or whatever they're called have a very difficult miserable job when limited to 15 minutes per person. But it's the way Apple wants it, there's nothing more to say... :)

I would definitely understand that also, but there was probably 12 display cases and one other person in the store with an appointment. I expected a little more.

They should've made only the 42mm in my opinion. The 38mm is just too small considering you're going to be touching the screen.

Then you'd exclude women. This is the failing of most other smart watches, they made watches that no woman would want. 50% of your population/sales cut out.

The actual screen sizes aren't very different.

My appointment is in a few hours. Gonna be pretty disappointed if I only get to play with 2

Any accessories for sale in store?!? Bands, charging cables??

It's too early for that. The chances are we won't see them for sale until the release date on the 24th. That said online the delivery time for the charge cables is 7-10 days so it's possible those might be available for sale before the 24th.

Does anyone know when the watches will be able to just be looked at/poked out without an appointment? Or is it by appointment only for the foreseeable future?

Disappointed with Try-On Appointment

My appointment is in less then two hours. For me I have multiple questions and want to try on three. I wear my watch on my right wrist because of carpal tunnel in my left wrist. I wanted to wear both leather bands, classic and loop, too see how they feel. And just wanted to see both of the aluminum versions. If they are rude, I will be very disappointed. This is my birthday gift from my wife and daughter. My daughter is coming with me to help me pick it out. She has better taste than I do. Hopefully it will be a good experience.
