Does anyone know when the watches will be able to just be looked at/poked out without an appointment? Or is it by appointment only for the foreseeable future?

It seems that all the stores have several watches fixed to a display that can be played with (they have the OS running). No appointment needed for that.

My experience was very pleasant. I was allowed to try on as many as I wanted and could even have gone over my allowed time if I wanted to. In fact I was even seen 15 minutes before my actual appointment time. I asked to try out the space grey sport but another Apple sales person was already showing it to another customer from the same drawer so the one that was assisting me just went on to the other side and got one from there for me to try on. The store wasn't terribly busy but they could have limited the time and the number of watches I could have tried. I had even told her I had already preordered one earlier in the morning.

Yes I tried one of those and must have spent the good part of 20 minutes playing around with and could have stayed longer if I wanted to. All in all my experience was great.

Apple Store @ The Grove let me try nearly all watches in the case right at 10AM when they opened. It was kinda busy but I was one of the first through the door, no appointment except I registered with an employee before the doors opened.

Great experience over here.

It's too early for that. The chances are we won't see them for sale until the release date on the 24th. That said online the delivery time for the charge cables is 7-10 days so it's possible those might be available for sale before the 24th.

Thanks Mr.C... I guess I was hoping some who ordered too late, but had a appointment could still get a order in the store, guess not.

Yeah,I ordered a extra band that says "may" and the charging cable says "7-10 days",so we'll see.

Also, were you able to get your order?

I just had my try on appointment and I must have gotten lucky because the Apple employee who guided me through my try on let me try on as much as I wanted. I tried four different bands and he even let me go through the experience of changing a band out.

At last. Somebody who knows how to sell.

Imagine finding one of them in a store.

Reading the thread in total to this point, it sure looks like the try-on experience varies considerably based on the associate you get, and perhaps on the busy-ness level of the store when you're there.

Hope I get a good one.

I found it odd that, as of 12:05 Pacific this morning, the timeframe I wanted (this coming Monday late-morning) didn't have any appointments available at my local Apple Store. In fact, there were no weekday appointments available at all; the apple.com Concierge site was only taking appointments for the weekend. I presume that that means the store is presuming they'll have enough try-on capacity available during the weekdays that they won't need to have online appointment reservations but instead just walk-ins... no?

The store rep I had was pretty clueless about the watch functionality. I was also disappointed that the try on watches were only in a demo loop. I wanted to try the siri functionality but couldn't.

So I guess that means some of the "leaked" retail material posted on MR front page (that caused such an uproar) was inaccurate? Or at least in reality the stores are being more flexible than what the rumors suggested?

If anyone knows how to cancel one of the concierge appts online, please let me know.

Hm..I had a different experience. I guess it just depends on the store's specialists. My friend I both booked a 12:15 appointment and we were immediately seen once we got in. We shared a specialist and she was really nice. We got to each try on several watches and she was doing a nice job of explaining the features and everything. The only real problem was that she was having trouble opening the watch drawer so everyone we asked to see another watch she had to fumble a bit to open it. Other than that it was a good experience and now I'm certain of which watch I will be getting.

I tried on 6 watches. They were allowed to take out 2 watches at a time but no limit on how many total watches customer can try on.

I tried on 5 watches but like the poster above I was told only two are allowed to be at the drawer at any given time. It was really busy, went over the 15 min appointment time.

I didn't mind the appointment, I expected a bit more and I could tell some of his questions were set up.
He asked me if I did running. I smirked. I don't run. I pole dance  and I told him so (the pebble strap doesn't handle pole dancing well, FYI :p)

My friend asked if there would be any stock in store on 24th. No one would categorically say no. Every single rep was coy.

Geesh I would have been pissed.

But it depends on the clerk. If he's a wad then it will be uncomfortable.

If he's apologetic and polite... no problem.

But it doesn't sound anything like the market they are pretending to be breaking into. Sounds more like Walmart.

My appointment was ok. Apple employee was pleasant. But at this store they would not switch out bands. I think they are doing that at some other stores?

They also had no 42mm silver sport, just the space gray sport.

I'll probably go back in a few days once everything settles down.

I went to my 10am appointment at First Colony Mall in Sugar Land, TX pretty excited to be one of the first to try on. I had already preordered last night, but I wanted to try the different bands. I had favorited only the 42 SS Milanese.

Anyways, my genius first pulls then Stainless Link bracelet and put it on me. Really great design. Then, I said I wanted to try the Milanese Loop. Very, very comfortable and igneous design. I really like NATO straps for watches so I appreciated the look.

I told him I had already preordered last night but I wanted to try the different bands. In that much time, he had closed the drawer about 7 minutes into my appointment. I asked could I try the sport band, and he says sorry I can only let you try 2 of them on, you can make another appointment. I was so confused, I didn't even know what to say. I just walked out of the store annoyed. I never liked the people from that particular store, they're much nicer at the bigger stores in Houston. And now I'm here complaining to Macrumors lol

Anyways, I'm still hoping for a 24th delivery date.

Really?
I got to try on as many as I wanted and I even got to see how to change the bands on the watch.

Any accessories for sale in store?!? Bands, charging cables??

At my try-on appointment, my staff person indicated that on 4/24, there will be NOTHING in the store - that at this time, Apple Watch and all accessories is an on-line purchasing business. He did say that when supply settled a bit, accessories like bands and charging cables would likely make their way into the stores, but not initially at launch.

That was just his take - who knows though.

This was my experience as well. The person I had even went and 'found' the watch combo I wanted to try which was space black with black sport band (I ordered both the space black SS and the black sport band). It looked better than I expected so I was happy about that since I wouldn't wear the link bracelet to workout. But, the guy was very helpful and allowed me to try on whatever I wanted.

Thank you for the info! Which watches you going to try on? Did you ore-order? No in-store pre-orders,right?

I did pre-order over night. The 42 Space Black SS and the 38 SS with Milanese Loop.

Correct on no in-store preorders.

I essentially tried these 2 watches on (so I could show my wife..ha ha) and then the Space Black SS with the Sport Black Band.

copy and pasted my visit from another thread as i had a whole different experience....

My experience was great at the Victoria Gardens apple store.

The guy helping me let me try on as many as I wanted. He fastened each one on my arm for me and gave me a few details on each band, very helpful. I finally just got bored and thanked him graciously. He seemed a little nervous handling the watches, as i am sure he was with so much money at his fingertips. He said this is "new for us as well", very nice guy.

Tried on

Link bracelet
classic buckle
milanese loop
leather loop
sport black

there were no others I wanted to try or he would have kept them coming.

After I went over to the display case and looked at the gold watches. One very nice female employee asked me if I wanted to try it on, but I had no desire to so just said no thank you i have tried a few on already. I then went over to the new MacBooks and checked out the watches on the wall that were functional.

Great experience and very friendly staff.

i bought the classic buckle watch last night, and a link bracelet band.

The bands themselves seem like they are in low supply because they don't ship until "May" if you try to order one. That makes me think it'll be a while before you can get one in a physical store, unless they actually prioritize stocking the physical stores.

I hope they do have the bands in the physical stores sooner than later because I ended up changing my original order (leather loop) to a white sports band just so I could get the watch delivered in the 4/24-5/8 timeframe. I had planned on getting a sports band along with the leather loop anyway. But I just find it strange that the bands themselves are in low supply. Maybe they're waiting to ramp up their production as they see which bands are the most popular in the pre-order round.
