Tell me about it... Their sales people are more capable to sell you a cheeseburger than a 9V Battery.

RS used to be a great place back in the days... Too long ago to remember.
update... the radioshack (108th and bway ) called me back. said they were the only store to have them in stock. said i need to buy 2 accessories with it. applecare and case.

I got to the listed Shack ab 90 mins before it opened this morning, was the 7th in line, and... they had 5 :(

They did not make the lucky 5 purchase Applecare or case.

The manager took my name and number to call when the one i want comes in. We shall see!

Super shady. Just trying to make a buck from commission and capitalize on the frenzy. If they wanted to argue, I was prepared to buy the supposed bundle and then return it after the fact.

Then get your butt over there right now, but don't set your expectations too high, to avoid disappointment.
Let us know how it went, maybe today is your lucky day.

I have yet to figure out how RS got the deal with apple for iPhone and iPad. It is almost like they only have enough buying power or credit for minimum quantities.

Seriously, I don't understand this relationship; or even why it needs to exist.

What was the point of giving a few shacks a few iPads that could have been sold in apple stores or sent to waiting customers? Doesn't make any sense to me.

I scored my iPad2 today because of the radioshack. I was not ready to stand in line for a toy, so till yesterday, I was just thinking that one day I will get a call for my BB reservation. But it has been so many days so when I heard yesterday that RAdioshack is going to sell them, I thought ok I will give a try at a local radioshack around the time when they open. When I got there, I saw two people inside for iPad2 and found out they only got 2 and the model I wanted, they didn't even got. So then I decided to go to pentagon city mall (VA) in Arlington because they have a big apple store and radioshack. I was thinking about going to radoshack first but figured that it was on 3rd floor, while apple store was on 2nd. So changed my mind and went into the apple store at 10:10 AM (with no hope because I saw a notice outside the store that they are sold out). I asked if they have any and guy told me they only have 1 64 GB white wifi. I could not believe it because that is what I wanted even the color so I told him give it to me and walked out of apple store in 5 min with my iPad2. Big thank to radioshack lol.

Just no. Call apple or email sjobs@apple and tell um these punks are trying to game the system . I'm certain that's against reseller policy.

Then again, ratshack probably paid some scalper for the units @ inflated prices just so they could attempt to drum up some traffic. Wouldn't be surprised 1 bit.

I scored mines at RS this morning but should I return it and wait till apple has in stock? Reading this thread has got me doubting the fact that I purchased it from a RS. So should I just return it and wait till my local apple store receives some? Orrr, should I stop being a pansy and open that puppy up!?

Also, if it ever requires service, will the Apple/Genius Bar service my iPad because it was purchased outside an apple store?

It doesn't matter where you bought it. All warranty service goes through Apple. You sure aren't going to take it back to RS for servicing. Be glad you have one in hand. One is the same as another when it comes to Apple. They don't care what authorized seller it came from.

I would keep it if you have it! I mean I would not go there and not appreciate their antics (buy 2 accessories) but they DO have a legit contract with Apple so your item is fine. If you have problems you service through Apple/Genius Bar. They will back the product no matter where you buy it!

I got lucky

I actually got lucky and was able to get my hands on a 32gb black iPad. There is only two stores in the San francisco bay area with iPads. The Emeryville store was sold out in 10 min because they only had two iPads (16 & 32). The transaction wasn't fun because they required you to purchase two accessories ( ended up getting AppleCare & invisible shield) (returned the invisible shield)

Loving the iPad so far though!!

What do you expect? It's radio shack....with limited stock around the world it seems pointless Apple would add yet another chain of stores to sell their products.

Ohh and btw they didn't get 1 iPad, the other 3 or 4 employees have been waiting like everyone else snatched up the other 4 iPads from the shipment:D

Fwiw I had tons of luck yesterday at a total of 5 RS in the NY area.

I was looking for a 16GB ATT version for a gift to a friend in France who I will see in a couple weeks. Either color. Would've also likely picked up a 64GB ATT black had I found one, for myself.

Ridgefield CT had two - a black 16 and black 32 both wifi only

Stamford CT had 5 - 16/16/16/32/32 all wifi only

Brentwood, NY had 1 left - a black 32GB ATT which I grabbed for the friend's gift as I didn't want to go empty-handed

Both Bridgehampton and Southampton had 1-2 32GB black ATT. Also had 16gb wifi only.

This was over the course of a long day driving all over the place. I had to go from Westchester to the Hamptons and back anyway so it wasnt too much extra effort to stop at these various stores.

Not a single store copped to having had any 64 ATT models so I wonder if any RS got them at all. So no luck for me though I was really only half looking for myself.

Glad I found one for the friend.

Main thing to watch from here is how quickly they get restocked, and if the quantities increase with subsequent deliveries.

Also, they did try to push the "bundle" as they were calling it. Annoying, but they ultimately took no for an answer.

People got to understand that Radio Shack is 100% a marketing organization, they are not a traditional retailer in any shape or form. Nobody who works in the stores is anything but a commissioned sales person.

They own all their stores and they have an inside sales team that goes on trips and vacations based on how much they get their own stores to buy from them... It is crazy. I have known a lot of people at radio shack headquarters over the years, and know a lot about their business.

It is not the place to go for a customer friendly experience. it is essentially an electronics store manned by used-car salesmen. Their main goal is to sell you something then and there, they don't care if you come back unless you come back when they are there. If you are not buying from them now, you are not adding to their bonus.

I hate their structure as a retail organization.. but it is what it is.

That being said, I actually bought my iPhone 4 from a Radio Shack because it was the only retail store that had any many months after release. It was not a bad experience actually, but as a general principle not a place I like to do business with...

As long as you are aware of what you are dealing with going in, though, it is easier to handle.
