I was. But that tiny tiny sound your hearing is the one most people are complaining about coming from the camera. It's the auto focus lens.

And yes you do have to strain. It's too funny these people. I wonder if they use the phones or just sit around and look and shake the things hoping to find something to complain about.

I do not have to strain to hear the rattle. You can hear it a metre away.
It is not anything to do with the camera, it is the power button.
Holding the power button, I can hear another tiny rattle, which I assume is the camera.

I would compare mine to the sound of a clock ticking. I hear it at the slightest movement, a ticking in your ear as you speak on the phone, it is absolutely terrible.

I will post a video.

Do you want a refund or a replacement?

I would like a replacement. If the replacement has a rattle as loud as this, I would like a refund.

Well then you need to talk to Apple not the internet.

Every single iPhone 5 and 5s I've used has the same rattle. Apple obviously doesn't think it's a defect, as they haven't fixed it.

I will say that even though the rattle is there if I try to find it, it has NEVER been so bad that I can hear it when I'm on the phone or when actually recording video. If yours is that bad, request a replacement. If the replacement is the same, the problem isn't the phone, you apparently have super hearing.

Well, I got my 5S today.

And I have to say, I am seriously disappointed and wish I had gone with Samsung or HTC.

1) The screen is yellow compared to my 4S, and iPads 3 & rMini.

2) There is a terrible rattle. Two rattles, one from the power button and another one from the camera. I hear it rattling everytime I speak on the phone. It is absurd.

I was eagerly waiting for my 5S, having had perfect products before this, and now I am totally bummed out.

Sadly, when I went to return my phone - I live in New Zealand, where we can't return things just because we change our minds only if there is a problem, Telecom (mobile service provider) put me through to Apple.

The Apple representative, told me that all iPhones 5S, 5C, 5 and all iPod touch generations have a rattle from the "camera" and the phone is perfectly fine.

So, YAY, no refund, or replacement for me.

My only recourse now is to drag Apple and/or Telecom to a Disputes Tribunal for selling me a third rate product. Which will only lose me time and money.

I am not happy at all.

Seriously? Your phone is fine.

OP post that video of how loud it is like you mentioned.

My boss has a 5S and on vibrate everyone in the same room as him could hear it. It was crazy annoying during meetings and conference calls.

Apple replaced it. Don't know much about the rattle but I can't hear his phone anymore.

OP: You need to realize the 5/5s can't hold a candle to the 4S' build quality or looks. Quality control on the 5/5s has been very poor. Almost all the 5S's have loose power buttons. Every iPhone 4/4S screen I looked at looks so much cooler (blue) than the iPhone 5S. I also had an iPhone 5S bend when removing a case.

Unfortunately we are forced to use this horrible designed phone until Apple goes back to the 4S design (with a larger screen). If only the freaking 4S had LTE, I'd still be using it.

If that's your personal option then that's fine. But you probably shouldn't trying to make it sound like EVERYBODY has the same idea. I don't have anything against the 4/4S (own the 4), but given the design and the looks I would go with the 5/5S any day.

Sorry you're disappointed. Get an HTC or Samsung.

.... yeah, two brands notorious for their quality

What? I'm assuming you are being sarcastic? Between 3 5s' I've owned none of them have rattled. I do hear a tiny tiny sound that I have to totally strain my ears to hear that can be interpreted as a "rattle", but I would find it completely hilarious if anyone complained about that.

It is THAT sound, and very picky people on forum like this call it "rattle" like it was a maracas ....

I had a 4,4s, and 5…I've never noticed a rattle. Why is everyone shaking their iPhones?

Ahh, I see. :) If the rattle is loud then yeah people should complain, but if it's people complaining about that tiny little pinkle I have to strain my ears to hear, that's just plain ridiculous. I think I've been lucky and had 5s' with no issues (so far).

1 Meter, really? That's 3 feet for us yanks, that's longer than the length of my arm. That must be a very loud rattle. You need to get that phone replaced under warranty, something definitely wrong with it.

don't know about the rattle, but the screen is supposed to be yellowish. its easier on the eyes than a pure white screen

Not sure how true that is. By having whites warmer the white balance is incorrect thus ALL colors are correct. iPhones used to be know for being pretty well calibrated.

Disappointment

Fixed it.

?

Fixed what?

There are people saying it's supposed to be yellow ie not calibrated in a thread where the OP has a yellow screen ie not calibrated.

Obviously they aren't too well known or apparently are they.

My 5S clearly does not have a yellow or yellowish screen. Is it warmer by design than the 4S? I have no clue as I don't have a 4S to compare it to...but my screen seems to be calibrated just fine.

Well it is or isn't. If you are looking at 2 screens and they have different whites then one is calibrated and the other isn't or neither are.

I don't personally care either way I just like my iPhone and iPad to match each other. :)

Do you know the color temp the 5S is supposed to be calibrated at? Are there professional calibration tools to adjust the white balance of the 5S?

I personally don't care, my whites look white, skin tones look normal etc. Photos pop. A calibration is either spot on or it's off. If white balance is off it's off, a little or a lot; only your eyes know. I would think very few people have the capability to know if an iphone 5S white balance calibration is spot on without purchase of professional equipment.

Very few people would notice and depending on ambient lighting makes hardly and difference. That's why I said "pretty well" before you "fixed" it....

Side by side my iPhone 5S seems to be slightly warmer than my iPad Air. But the difference is very subtle and it doesn't bother me at all.

You said "used to" and if that is your opinion, fine. My opinion is "they are". With all of these yellowish displays there could be a bad batch of hardware out there that didn't get picked up by QC or maybe the hardware was somehow substituted.
