As promised earlier this year, Discover has rolled out support for Apple Pay as of today for users running iOS 9 betas or the golden master. Other users will be able to add Discover cards once iOS 9 launches to the public in a few hours. With the addition, Discover cardholders will be able to take advantage of Apple Pay to make secure, contactless payments using Apple's payment service.

To encourage users to give Apple Pay a try, Discover is offering a deal for all of its U.S. cardmembers. Any customer who uses their Discover cards through Apple Pay will get a 10 percent Cashback Bonus through the end of 2015. Cashback Bonuses are available on up to $10,000 of in-store purchases, and Discover it Miles, Miles, and Escape cardmembers will earn an extra 10 miles per dollar on up to $10,000 of in-store purchases.
According to Discover's Apple Pay press release, Discover members who want to use their cards with the service will need to update to Apple's latest operating system, iOS 9, and then add their cards to the newly renamed Wallet app (formerly Passbook). From there, adding a card to Apple Pay is as simple as scanning it in and verifying it, as seen in our how to on using Apple Pay.

With Discover now supporting Apple Pay, all of the four major credit card networks in the United States work with the payments service. MasterCard, American Express, and Visa have worked with Apple Pay since the service launched in October of 2014.

Since Apple Pay first became available, Apple has worked with hundreds of banks and credit unions to expand Apple Pay support. A full list of supported banks in both the United States and the United Kingdom is available on Apple's website.

Apple Pay is compatible with the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, and iPhone 6s Plus. Apple Pay is also available on an Apple Watch paired with one of the aforementioned devices or an iPhone 5, 5c, or 5s.

    (Thanks, tmiw!)

Love Discover. Use them with Android Pay. Have both their It card and bank accounts.

Wow, I wish all card companies would offer cash back deals for using Pay. By Discovery doing this it just goes to show that using Pay is much more convenient for card companies.

Adding a major card company is a great win for Apple Pay, but I think most Apple Pay users would agree that adding merchants would be a bigger win.

Awesome! The 10% Cash Back Bonus is a really nice touch. Almost like "sorry it took us so long, but as a reward, we're gonna make it worth the wait"

10% is pretty crazy. Too bad where I live Apple Pay is offered mostly at eating establishments. Don't think it would be worth it to sign up for a Discover Card. Oh, yes, Best Buy takes it but I'm not planning on making any massive technology purchases before the year is out. However, a new Skylake 5K iMac might change my mind! $300 off is $300 off.

Weird. Not sure why I can't get it to work. The camera doesn't work so I try it manually but then it just tells me it can't connect

Well I'm an Pay user and I don't get what you mean. What would be the reason to add merchants rather than card companies?

Well dang, too bad this wasn't an option when I pre-ordered my $750 iPhone 6S through the Apple Store App using ApplePay!

I find it hard to believe they'd give you 10% cash back, that's crazy. Are we sure it isn't 10% MORE cash back? Like say you get 2% normally you'd then get 2.2% (2%*1.1) with ApplePay?

Well I don't have a Discover card so either way it doesn't much matter to me, but that was my impression.

    Anything from
Without merchants accepting nfs payments, apple pay isn't available.

This was discussed last week. If you did an instore pick up then use your discover card and apple pay at pick up :)

It's for in store purchases anyways. You would have had to pre-order in the Apple Store (if that's even possible)

Not a Discover customer and don't plan to be but wow, 10% off purchases through Apple Pay should be huge for them. Not only does it improve their relationship with existing customers but this is going to bring in a ton of new customers (and encourage spending) in the months leading up to Christmas.

Would be interesting to see what the average customer ends up spending of the $10,000 limit.
