I find it hard to believe they'd give you 10% cash back, that's crazy. Are we sure it isn't 10% MORE cash back? Like say you get 2% normally you'd then get 2.2% (2%*1.1) with ApplePay?

Well I don't have a Discover card so either way it doesn't much matter to me, but that was my impression.

It's straight 10% back, and I wouldn't be surprised if that was 10% cash back on top of the quarterly 5% bonus. This quarter is Amazon, department stores, and clothing stores. Shopping at department/clothing stores with Apple Pay might actually get you 15% cash back.

You have fees to load those cards, and they are not secure like real credit cards. But yes in theory..

It's for in store purchases anyways. You would have had to pre-order in the Apple Store (if that's even possible)

Well curses. Classic example of the difference between "fine print" and "marketing (which conveniently didn't specify in-store":
"
said Heather Roche, vice president of rewards at Discover. "We want to encourage new and existing Discover cardmembers to add their Discover card to Apple Pay with a few simple clicks using our mobile app, take advantage of this 10% Cashback Bonus, and experience the ease and convenience of using Apple Pay.
"

is apple giving the cash back or discover?

poor discover card, I always use them to purchase anything in apple store/online (5%).

now iPad mini 4 looks attractive!
it's 10% cashback on discover, so yes discover will be paying you.

A lot of merchants have the terminals, and it sucks for us customers

For small businesses that don't use integrated terminals, the problem is that in many cases they don't even know that their new chip-capable terminal has NFC support or how to run such a transaction. Thus, even if the business is listed in MasterCard's app they'll probably tell you "we don't accept it" if you ask.

And then there's the other places that support Apple Pay but have no indication that they do so on the terminal (such as Haggen).

Isn't there a deadline in the U.S. for these systems to be working sometime this autumn? I think that might be the reason that all of these places are installing them but few of them are actually turned on yet.

The deadline is in two weeks and it's only for chip support. Businesses don't have to support NFC if they don't want to (and there's no penalty if they make that choice) but if they don't support chip by then they'll become liable for fraud.

Dammit, come to Canada already. I'd hoped for that announcement at the Hey Siri event. Alas.

Id love to use this to its fullest but unfortunately discover hasn't boosted my credit limit in almost 2 years. I have no idea why.

Here is a question that is Apple Pay and iPhone 6S/S Plus related:
When you are upgrading from an iPhone 6 / Plus do you need to delete your cards from Apple Pay on the old phone and re-add them? Just re-add them? I can't imagine they are automatically transferred.

I haven't seen this discussed.

The cards are automatically deleted if you restore your old phone to factory. Found this out while playing with iOS 9 betas. :)

What technical reason would they require iOS 9? Is this just a marketing gimmick to boost early iOS 9 adoption numbers?

I think Apple needed to add support for the protocol that Discover uses for communication with terminals.

Yes!!!!! This is the card I was waiting for to be added to :apple:Pay. Now if only my bank would add my debit card.
No kidding. If my debit card was supported, I would never use credit with Apple Pay. The only reason I use credit is because using debit all over the place is incredibly risky, should something happen. Apple Pay pretty much removes that risk.

Discover is very generous with cash back so yes, it's really 10%. That'd pay for taxes + more on a new Mac. Combine this with Black Friday discounts coming up (Best Buy) and there's a potential for huge discounts. Plus, Discover will price adjust so once specific model number are out for Black Friday hot deals, you can purchase the product early and then submit a price adjustment on Black Friday. That way you'll get the 10% cash back and the discount all without having to fight crowds. This is supposing of course that Best Buy is accepting Apple Pay by then.

I have used my Discover card a lot and received a lot of cash back over the past few years.

That's if BBY starts accepting Apple Pay in store by that time ;)
