Is it just me or is all these “paid” subscriptions starting to become too much? Netflix, Hulu, prime video. Prime. Now Disney. And other major networks coming to play too... maybe it’s time to ditch the “cable cutting” too.

Feeling like a lot of people here do not realize that ESPN+ does NOT include live ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNews content.
Many of us don't want ESPN+ regardless which particular variants of sports coverage it has. Some of us just aren't that interested in watching other people exercise on TV, and would rather not pay for the unwanted opportunity to do so.

ESPN+ is essentially a replacement for ESPN3, minus coverage for local teams and almost everything that's on ESPN and ESPN2.

This is probably due to very complex distribution deals with cable providers and sports associations, etc.

Holy crap. That's a nice deal. I pay for ad-free hulu, 11.99/month... with another 6.99 when Disney + launches... now I just need to figure out if the ads are worth the difference...
They aren’t! Ads ruin the entire experience. I forget what the heck I’m watching. Sometimes, I even forget I’m watching a show....get up, and start doing something else. Later, I’m like...oh, crap! I never finished watching that!
A couple of ads, now and then, would be okay. But, these networks have gotten carried away. Thay may as well just put a message up on the screen that reads, “We Hate You!”

I'm not paying for any service with ads. As it is I don't have enough time to watch all the great original programming put out by Netflix and Amazon, and those 2 I'm subsidized by Tmobile for Netflix and I pay for Prime shipping and the tv shows are a bonus for me. However, I would pay for an all sports service that allows me to watch all the college football and NFL (ESPN, Fox sports, and BTN) and the NBA (TNT). An all sports channel for $10 a month would reel in a lot of people because there are many out there that would only pay for live sports.

Why should I be forced to see ads for something I’m paying for.
You aren't wrong but we pay to watch ad-filled contents with:
  • Magazines and newspapers
  • Cable and satellite TV
  • Movies at the movie theater
Considering Hulu generates about $8/month per user (from its $5.99/month plan, vs. $11.99/month for ad-free plan), we probably won't get ad-free bundle

All this splintering and price hiking of streaming services has me seriously looking at going back to the vpn/torrent world. I’m already paying Netflix, Hulu, philo, hbo, acorn tv, BritBox, CuriosityStream.... it just keeps stacking up.

I feel similar. I almost feel like it’s better to go back to the early 2000’s and just buy shows and media I care to watch through iTunes alone.

This last month we had to go strictly to the media server for content (we blew through our Comcast terabyte monthly cap) and realized most of it was ads with DisneyNOW.

:(

First world problems.

As for Apple, while it could launch Apple TV+ at higher price than Disney+, a bundle that combines Apple Arcade, Music, TV+, and possibly iCloud and News+ would have to be pretty aggressive, minimally "buy 2, get 1 free" (e.g., $19.99 for Arcade, Music, and TV+).

I expect just the opposite-- that, for the first year, AppleTV+ will be free on Apple devices.

Does ESPN+ do Monday Night Football?
I wish the NFL would do a live game stand-alone deal like MLB.tv and NHL for AppleTV.

Disney’s deal will get my money.

Hulu with ads is $5.99 / month.

I have no interest in Disney+ or ESPN so I'm just going to stay with Hulu with ads :).

Does the bundle include ESPN or just ESPN+ because they are not the same thing. As far as I'm aware, ESPN (Including ESPN2, ESPNews, etc) has never been available as a standalone subscription.

International + plans, Disney, please!
Star Wars & Marvel fans outside of the US want to watch the new stories too.
Why would you want that? If Disney + isn’t streaming in your country they’ll probably sell the streaming rights to an existing platform in your country, like say..Netflix. Then you don’t have to subscribe to yet another new service to watch all the Marvel/Star Wars stuff.

You are correct. Unless you really, really like MMA, there's really not a ton to find on ESPN+.

I think you missed my point. That's the funny thing. Most of what's on ESPN+ is literally just people exercising. It's not especially compelling even if you are a sports fan. I think quite a few people will be surprised when they're not getting the ESPN content they know and love here. I wonder if Disney is counting on some of that confusion.
