The king of content gets stronger.

I’m scared if I’m over at Netflix.
[doublepost=1553088081][/doublepost]
Netflix has their own content and a lot of content from other studios and Disney+ sounds like it will have an overload of content, I can't see Apple having a good dog in this fight. This isn't about money, you can't just throw money at streaming service to make it successful. This will boil down to who has the best content and a lot of it. Netflix won't lose any subscribers they're name is synonymous with streaming and Disney will gain a lot of customers off their name alone.
Content is all about money. You buy it or spend a fortune creating it. And original content is hard to do well. Disney is the only one who has done it successfully over time.

Disney has more content in their couch cushions than all of Netflix. Netflix licenses most of their content and with competition, those guys leave and create their own service.

Name 5 huge Netflix originals.

Most content consumed on Netflix is licensed, not owned or created by Netflix.

Why are you saying this again? This isn’t a good thing. We shouldn’t be happy or proud. We should be worried. Disney needs to be banned from entering the distribution arm of content to prevent them from abusing their position even more than they already have. Incorrect fair use takedowns and price manipulation are just the tip of the miceberg.

As if they weren’t already, Disney is now a behemoth. This will certainly allow for some fun crossovers as far as properties. But with all the Balkanization of content I’m starting to wonder if the new cord-cutting streaming-verse will wind up being just as expensive as cable was.

Hooray for new superhero rights! Hope this helps build a bright future for the MCU, for which I fear, now that phase 1 is coming to an end.

I love it. They aren’t even close to a monopoly, but they do own the best content. I would like Apple to partner with Disney.

Disclosure: I am long DIS and AAPL

I think it is antitrust time for these behemoths. I believe in maintaining a free market, but a captured, centrally controlled market is not even close to free.

And the way you get the best content is by chucking money at producers to bring their content to YOUR platform. If Apple pay twice as much as Netflix for producers to put their show on the Apple streaming service, Apple will be the winner.

Money talks and BS walks. Remember that ;)

Here is real news and hard data. Sorry. :D

This NYTimes article is from 2017.

They won’t be getting Fox’s regional sports stations because they would’ve had to sell off their own sports programming. It makes a lot sense for AT&T or Amazon to pick those up at this point.

Oh my, that doesn't look good for Family Guy. The amount of jokes they have made against Disney....ouch.

Let’s see... Stranger Things, Bird Box, House of Cards, Jessica Jones, Roma (Won the Oscar for Best Director)... I could go on.

Please, do go on.

Those you listed are hilarious in comparison to what Disney owns. Jessica Jones? Roma? LOL...

House of Cards flopped after 3 seasons. Bird Box was a fad and again, can you really compare that to things like Frozen? Avengers? Aladdin? Beauty and the Beast? Lion King? LOL!!!

You asked for 5 Netflix originals that were huge, I provided them. Yes the titles you provided are bigger than those, but Disney has been around for 96 years and has had a long time to work on their catalogue. The Netflix titles I mentioned are huge in their own right and Netflix Original programming has been around for less than 10 years, that’s pretty impressive. Give them time and they’ll make some big blockbusters.

The thing is, Netflix is BURNING CASH to make this (meh) content, license other content, and competitors are creeping in...powerful competitors. That's my point. They not only need time, they need MONEY.

Netflix also doesn't make all that much money and this is the entire business. They don't have a movie studios, parks, merchandising, and TV channels. I like Netflix...I just think they are in for a hell of a fight...probably an unwinnable fight against media giants.

Netflix was/is great, but it won't last. They were first to the party, but competition is going to hurt their business because at the end of the day, they are no great content creator or content buyer. They are an app. They don't have the money to buy content in a big way (see Disney's $71B Fox acquisition) and don't have the experience to make great content.

I’ll say goodbye to my 4K library on my Apple TV. I wouldn’t be surprised if Disney pulled any Fox movies that were 4K from the Apple store and downgraded them to 1080p

If that happens I'll definitely be done purchasing digital movies. In fact it would probably be grounds for a class action suit.
