Prices will go up after a year I’m betting, this price is to get people hooked before prices go up. Netflix pulled this plenty of times
It started at $8/mo and is now $13/mo. They haven't even doubled the price and yet delivered everyone tons of more content - licensed and originals. To say they "pulled this plenty of times" is a bit of a stretch.

It’s weird seeing that the U.K. isn’t getting it at the same as all those other countries
Everything is dependent on when Disney gets back the streaming rights for his own properties. As far as I know, in UK Sky owns them until 2020 included. Similar deals are in place all over the world with local broadcasters.

Disney can, of course, launch its streaming service all over the world whenever they want, but it wouldn't look pretty with just the new original shows and nothing from the back catalogue.

im at 80% yes to this. Need more details on the Hulu and Espn+ bundle.
It's been described previously that the Hulu offered is the variant with plentiful commercials rather than the (nearly) ad-free version, and that ESPN+ is missing many live events that full-blown ESPN carries. More of a ESPN-minus, really. As someone not particularly interested in watching sports, I'd be much more interested in the bundle if you could trade in the ESPN+ for upgrading the Hulu to the ad-free version.

I have a gut feeling it’s something to do with Disney’s contract with Sky Cinema. Really hope it launches sooner rather than later! :(

Thats frustrating it's not launching in the UK straight away. Looking forward to it as well, it's great its going to integrate with the TV app.

Stupid SKY TV ruining everything, first it was F1 now this!

Netflix has raised prices over time, but never did what you did-- offer a bait price for a year, than switch.

Pay to see Disney kill Luke Skywalker again? ... I’ll pass. All these independent streaming services cost too much when you add them together. I’ll wait until they’re packaged into a single service again.

Wait forever, you will.

Hulu with ads is nothing I’m interested in, my time (and the BS factor) is worth a lot more than $6/month. For many, ESPN+ is not worth paying for; it’s just a throw-in to make the bundle appear more valuable.

If a customer doesn’t care about ESPN+, just Disney+ with Hulu/ads isn’t really a bundle at all since there’s no savings. You can get the two of them separately for $12.98, the bundle is $12.99. So if there were a Disney+ bundle with the (almost) ad-free version of Hulu, it would probably clock in right around $17.98. Or $17.99 with ESPN+  :(

And Apple wants to charge $9.99 for Apple TV plus subscription possibly...yikes, Disney plus trounces Apple plus. Even if Apple TV plus is $4.99, Disney has a far larger and better library for the price

Or stupid Disney for negotiating a deal with Sky that limits them in this way?

My money's on Apple TV+ being free with a "services" subscription or two.

Once Apple gets a heftier catalog, expect a price tag associated with it.

So with Disney setting the value of all that content at $6.99/mon...what does that make AppleTV+ worth?

$0.99/quarter? Less?

Netflix has raised prices over time
Netflix has raised prices twice in the last year alone. They have wasted gobs of cash on hot garbage, and have no idea how to make a profit with their business model other than raising prices and dropping licensed content.

A Netflix subscription now costs more than double what it is actually worth.

Why?

The reason for all the price jumps on other services is due to them not owning all the content they offer. Disney owns all the content for this service. This means they do not have to negotiate streaming rights for every market around the world.
The reason for Netflix price jumps is because they are an absurdly mismanaged company that has dumped ungodly amounts of money on garbage 'original' content.

They survived just fine for a long time on nothing but licensed content. That didn't magically just become an untenable business in the last year.

What happened was they spent it all on garbage no one cared about.

Apparently you don't know how to read graphs.

During the period of time where prices were reasonable, licensed content was still a priority, and originals were selective...growth continued.

But that ugly flattening that is happening from the end of 2018 and through 2019 is a result of very bad decisions in the last year. Just last month Netflix lost more than 10 percent of its value after losing 126,000 subscribers in the US the previous quarter, its first-ever such decline.

But good try with the graph. I'm sure you thought that was the answer.

Apple TV+ pricing has not been announced. $9.99 makes no sense at all for a service without a back catalog. I don't understand why people say it isn't worth it when we don't know what it's worth. There will probably be only 3 shows available at launch so the strategy they go with will probably be totally different than what's offered now (and likely copied afterward).

Edit: looks like Bloomberg thinks it'll be $9.99. But that's coming from Bloomberg.

That’s only if you bundle espn+ and Hulu with ads. Otherwise, it’s still $6.99.

Nice to hear. For $6.99 / month, just the Star Wars, Pixar and the Simpson's libraries have me - easy at $6.99.

It's funny, how in fact we end up paying sooooo much more every month, than we used to a few years ago - subscriptions everywhere, music, tv, books, audiobooks, apps, games - the total can be over $50-60 every month for the fun of it :)

I have to agree, that Netflix is full of garbage shows and original movies - of course there are exceptions, but very few exceptions...
