I keep waiting for who will have the stones to try out some contracts

They are coming, I guarantee it -- especially as more and more content has been getting siloed to Apps per studio/production source

Won't surprise me if Disney goes first since they have a lot of content parents won't want to be without

If they force a year sub that will be the end of consumer patience, especially for the smaller services. Netflix, Hulu and Disney could probably get away with it but the others will wither.

Let's make that 700,001 I've cancelled almost all streaming services. Let's be frank this model is unsustainable and has never been sustainable. These increases will keep happening. If they think we're addicted to them they are dazzlingly confused.

Personally I don't see this price increase as that big a deal. That whole month's subscription is the cost of just one movie ticket. For the cost that my wife and I can go see a single movie in the theatre with snacks, we get 3 months of streaming movies whenever we feel like in the comfort of our own living room. No annoying *******s around us chewing on their food. And frankly my popcorn tastes better.

Even with the higher price I'm still getting a ton of value for my money.

My Plex server is the best investment I've made ever since I saw the writing on the wall with all of these price increases and password sharing limitations.
Problem is, what do you do once blu rays are dead? Already started happening with some manufacturers stopping making the players etc.

I gave up 2 years ago. The only "legit" streaming services I keep come with my cellular plan. (Verizon gives me Disney+ Bundle, and Apple Music.) For everything else, I use an "IPTV Provider" with TiviMate running on the $20 Walmart Onn Android Boxes on every TV in the house. "ARRR MATEY!" I used to be willing to throw all these streaming services $8/month each for service with no ads... Now I give $170 per year to a company that has no legal right to provide me with the content they do. And they provide me with EVERYTHING.

Netflix is not reporting the real numbers, Disney did, they are finding out that there is a price to pay for increasing the price, all the other streamers should take note, people are getting fed up.

Hi, what’s this Plex all about???
Note that Plex is pretty useless without a library of content you have on a disk somewhere. Because everyone posting on MacRumors is assuredly an upstanding citizen, I’m sure all libraries mentioned in this thread were legally acquired, but it is often used by those scandalous content pirates, particularly in conjunction with software that automates the acquisition of said content.

So they're making an extra $250 million a month on the $2 price increase - and lost out on between $5.6 million and $9.8 million on the canceled subscribers. I'd take that deal if I were them!
I wouldn’t push it much further if I were them.

Streaming at the original dirt cheap prices was never sustainable. Companies were operating their services at a loss, many still are (Disney+ only turned a profit for the first time last year). People are now too accustomed to paying next to nothing for entertainment. I don’t see how studios are going to avoid major downsizing/layoffs, and smaller ones maybe shutting down.

We recently did a big purge of streaming services. Saving close to $150 a month (that includes canceling YouTubeTV)
I happened to stop my Hulu + LiveTV and Office 365 family renewal days ago. On the other hand, I still have shares for Disney stock.
