That's $600,000,000+ that Disney+ is bringing in EACH MONTH. I wonder how that compares to their revenues before launching Disney+? And ironically, the pandemic likely led to a dramatic increase in subscribers as people were spending more time at home, so how many will cancel their subscriptions in the next year? I've been paying each month and not really watching anything.

So how many times can you watch Star Wars, Marvel, Bambi, and Dumbo and still be a paying subscriber?
Why would you need to (re)watch old shows and movies when Disney will be constantly producing and releasing new content?

"Going forward, Disney has set a target of 100+ new titles per year across Disney Animation, Disney Live Action, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic."

Then there's the savings you'd get from renting a new movie release on Disney+ for $30 (e.g. “Cruella” and “Black Widow") instead of paying $10+ per ticket to go to the movie theater.

This isn't good though

The average monthly revenue per paid subscriber for Disney+ decreased from $5.63 to $3.99 due to the launch of Disney+ Hotstar.

and

Results at Disney+ were comparable to the prior-year quarter as an increase in subscribers was largely offset by higher programming and production, marketing and technology costs. The increases in subscribers and costs reflected the ongoing expansion of Disney+ including launches in additional markets.

Going to have to raise prices again down the road to offset and recoup those higher programming, production, marketing, and tech costs.
They are in subscriber acquisition mode, so this is all part of the plan. Hotstar is in India and getting that market is important for growth of the brand. Content WILL be monetized, don’t you worry. Disney+ is not a profit generator…yet.

The subscriber growth is nothing short of incredible. From 0 to over 100M in 18months plus the over 50M in Hulu and ESPN. Netflix took over 15 years for 100M subscribers. This is incredible.

How many of them are still on that free year from verizon ?
This has been discussed countless times and that is not a significant driver of total subscribers. Plus, Disney still gets paid and many covert to subscribers. Clearly, subscriber Count isn’t an issue.

I just wish those movies weren't $35 up here in Canada.

I won't pay $35 for Black Widow, and didn't pay $35 for Mulan or Raya either. Disney+ is tempting me with Shang-Chi in September, but that's almost twice what I was paying for movies at the 4K laser IMAX theatre pre-Covid.
Well, that's interesting. Today Disney announced that Shang Chi will not be a hybrid theatrical & Disney+ release. Shang Chi will be an exclusive theatrical release:

"CEO Bob Chapek confirmed the news during an earnings call Thursday. Free Guy, starring Ryan Reynolds, hits theaters Aug. 13, while the Simu Liu starrer Shang-Chi arrives Sept. 3. Both will have a 45-day exclusive run in cinemas."

I bought the 3 year deal for $4 a month before it launched but likely won't renew when it is up and the price doubles. It would be worth it if I had kids, but I don't and 90% of the stuff on there is for kids and tweens. Not worth it just for Pixar and a few Nat Geo documentaries. If they made a bundle for Disney+ and Hulu without ESPN+ I would likely get that. I have no use for ESPN+ and don't want any of my subscription fee going to ESPN. They already got enough of my money when I was forced to have it with cable before I cut the cord.

As a big fan of both, come on, don’t start immediately comparing this this to TV+…

The one thing they are all getting ‘right’ is not charging more for HD or 4K — Netflix needs to get with the times.
They are not comparable. At. All. And are being done for slightly different reasons. Disney will slowly introduce advertising, most of the streams will at some point. Some have already. So Amazon and Apple run the two services most comparable as they are basically marketing arms for companies that do something very different.

If you have kids hundreds of times. My kids constantly rewatch Disney movies. Plus I don't have to worry too much about what they watch. Unlike Amazon Prime, Netflix and, Youtube Kids.
haha yes you don't want kids to browse prime or netflix, especially with the horrible algorithm that turns almost every search into some horror pron rabbit hole. Sooo much torture garbage of young blond pretty things it makes me believe hollywood is sick.

Let’s really put all of this into perspective with global subscriber counts based on recent company reports and analyst estimates.

Disney+ 103 million
HBO MAX 63 million
Peacock 42 million
Hulu 41 million
Paramount+, Showtime, and BET+ 36 million
Starz 15 million

I tried to get the most accurate information I could for these guys. Its possible I’m off on the numbers. Now Apple doesn’t give out their numbers so all we can do is go off of analyst estimates for Apple TV+

Apple TV+ at end of 2020 was estimated at 40 million subscribers.

The analyst does not give an estimate for 2021. It’s estimated that 62% of that is on a promotional plan. That means it’s possible that just shy of 25 million Apple TV+ subscription are on a paid plan. Again this is just an estimate from an analyst. Another analyst could have totally different number. But if this is accurate I think Apple is doing a good job and has a good path to success.

We know at least 90 shows, limited series or movies currently in development or in production. And it’s looking like Apple will have a new release almost every Friday June-August. Not sure about fall and winter yet. But they have a lot of potential and this service is a few years out before we can consider it a failure. Keep the faith. It’s going to be great.

Will ATV+ go down in history as 's greatest blunder?
