Not surprising since Disney has a back catalog that could probably keep someone watching something new for a year without reruns.

Call it what you want, still a far better entertainment source than Apple TV
I checked out Disney+. It seemed there is only kids programs on there. I read that they bought all of the other movie companies. Where are the regular movies? I must be missing something.

Something about the imagery and representation in this image is off-putting, and makes me unwilling to let any of my children or family watch anything that is being produced in these current times.

That's funny because it's easily the worst for me. I've subscribed to almost every single streaming service trial thinking that I won't find anything to watch but I'm always amazed at how many good shows I find. I cannot say the same for Disney and I never check in with Disney except for when new Mandalorian episodes are available. Every other show I've either seen (as a child) or just don't care at all and I like Marvel, Star Wars and Pixar. Of course I have no kids and I'm getting Disney for free so I have no good reason to check in but I'm surprised that Disney doesn't have more original content.

For me, it's actually good value to subscribe, binge watch through the film franchises and the Mandalorian, then unsubscribe. If I had kids it might be a different story, but otherwise it's not worth keeping long-term.

I really like the Mandalorian, but I'm not staying subscribed just for a fun but shallow ~30 minutes per week.

FYI, Raya was awful. Wait until it’s free so you can fry your mind without a premium.

I’m also excited for the new Woke-alorian season. I can’t to see how they fill or purge Carano’s role.

It is therefore no surprise Disney is doing so well. It’s the ultimate, “fantasy land.”

Free with Verizon. Otherwise might get it one month of year to watch any original programming. Same with atv+ if they ever get a show worth watching. But for now both keep giving it away.

None of these services are worth a sustained sub unless it comes with something. Even Netflix is in the rotation now (usually active only half the year). Only Amazon is sustained due to prime shipping (along with Verizon and Disney).

Apples will never be much. Will always be a money pit. Still functions as more of a gateway to get people to purchase other channels through iTunes that apple can get 30% of. Apple would need some franchises. Either get very lucky. Or buy them.
Is it free though? I thought it's only for 6 months..

Not to sound like a troll here, but I’m not sure Disney+ has anything for me. I don’t have kids, don’t care about comics or superheroes, and I’m (don’t want to start a nerd war) not a Star Wars fan (Star Trek fan).

Like someone else asked, is there any grownup stuff on there?

EDIT: someone already answered. Thank you. I’ll pass on Disney+.

I tried Disney. Only The Mandalorian was interesting. I cancelled Disney after I finished watching season 2. When season 3 for The Mandalorian appears I will subscribe again. Season 2 was better than season 1.

I cancelled Netfilx until some interesting stuff appears.

I cancelled other services because maybe only 1 or 2 shows are interesting.

So, Is Star a separate service? The Wikipedia page isn't that clear, but I did only skim it.

I have Hulu. Does Disney own that?

I think "own" here is a very loose term. Disney actually has 67% equity (majority stake) whereas Comcast has 33%. Because Disney has over 60% equity, they have controlling stake in it.

Star is not a separate service from Disney+. In Canada for example, users get both Disney+ and Star in the same app. The Star part of it is really just additional mature content.

Star+ on the other hand is a separate service targeted for Latin America and will have all the general audience content and sports. This service does not include Disney+ content whereas the regular Star does. Here's another link to skim: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star+

Just when I think I'm out, they pull me back in. I was ready to cancel if WandaVision wasn't good.

They're smart starting Falcon & The Winter Soldier and Loki behind each other

LOL, Not that long ago many Apple apologist on MR suggest Disney+ is doomed. And will not gain traction once the initial hype past.

General reminder Disney+ isn't even generally available worldwide.

I dont want to name them. But I do genuinely wish people learn a thing or two. Rather than constantly taking a stand no rational reason.

Disney market cap: $355 billion. Why not make them an offer, Apple?
Because they are almost $70 Billion in debt & aren't making any money. They had to sell $6 Billion in bonds to have some liquidity & this was before the pandemic. The theme parks will take years just to make up the money lost from covid closures. Movies are making bugger all at a box office choked by covid. Disney+ got 100 mil subs ok, but they need 220-250 million to make it profitable. Netflix at 200mil is still in the red. Ditto why Apple never brought them or have no interest in Tesla as these companies with manipulated bloated stock prices are full of it & it ain't money.

I don’t recall anyone saying that Disney+ had no chance of succeeding. Rather, I think it’s worth remembering that video streaming is not a “winner takes all” scenario. There is room for a consumer to be subscribed to multiple different services, compared to say, Apple Music vs spotify where there really isn’t much benefit to being on both at the same time.

Either Disney needs to add an adult section for Fox movies in the Disney+ app or Hulu needs to get Dolby Vision or at least HDR10 support.

I believe that Disney+ did add an adult section at least in some European countries.

It’s the only reason why I don’t subscribe to either service. Lack of HDR is a deal breaker unless a service truly has a great collection like Criterion and HBO Max do, and even HBO now supports 4K DV+DA for Warner’s new theatrical releases.

Yeah unless you are a hardcore Star Wars or Marvel nerd and/or have kids, Disney+ probably isn't for you.
I don’t know about this. I just finished binging the 8th season of Homeland and watched the first Die Hard movie before that.

My cancelled subscription didn’t become official until this week, when it ran out. So I guess I am 1 of the 100 million. 🤪
