Verizon unlimited customers get 1 year of Disney + for free.

They are only giving away 1 month of free trial, unlike Apple that is giving an entire year of AppleTV+ with the purchase of a device. I expect more people cancelling AppleTV+ after their trial than Disney+.

It's also kinda funny to complain about Disney+ and referencing original content to do so, as it is basically the only streaming service that only has original content. :D They have a pool of content going back 80 years and adding to that list several times each year through their wide portfolio of content creating studios.

Maybe this might make people rethink their calls for Apple to acquire Disney. While their streaming service is doing strong, they elected not to pay dividends and just closed another round of raising debt, indicating that they only have enough spare cash to continue waiting out the pandemic for so long.

Disney’s Achilles heel is that it is reliant on people leaving their homes and given that we still have no idea how long travel and entertainment will be impacted by the pandemic, it’s looking to be a more unappealing acquisition target by the day.

People need to realise that this sort of thing is a package deal. Disney+ was meant to help draw people to their theme parks, cruises and merchandise. This is all one giant package deal and it’s clear that Apple really has no use for much of Disney’s business model.

CoVID stay-at-home must have been rocket fuel for Disney (and other streaming services). While Disney is probably badly missing their parks and cruises business now, they can certainly feel lucky on this business. Wonder how this compares to where Apple is at with TV+.

I am also willing to go out on a limb and get that disney+ isn’t profitable, won’t be for a very long time, and maybe never. I believe it’s a loss leader, meant to complement their other businesses like parks, cruise ships and resorts. Businesses that are now closed due to the virus.

It will be interesting to see which habits persist and which change once the pandemic is over.

There are 8 billion people on this planet. Only 54 million subscribe to Disney Plus.
Wouldn't households be a better comparison? There is six people in my home that have access to Disney+.

Besides, while it is still a tiny fractions of the total amount of the world's population, 50 million+ paying subscriptions in little as six months is very impressive. I am unsure how much profit Disney makes from a sub, but it is an extra $350,000,000 in revenue each month or $4.2 billion+ a year.

54.5 Million on free trial 😂 they will not be paying for those when this is alll over. I’ve worked in customer service to know they will either contact customer service to report that they have cancelled before the trial ended or they will call the bank to file a dispute 😂😂
The free trial is only for 7 days. Disney plus has been out for more than 6 months...

Apple TV+ just screams “flop” to me. What can they do better (or different) than the other 8,000 similar services?
It’s not a flop. It just takes a different approach to other platforms. It’s all original content and that takes time to build up. However there is a good range of shows on there now. I know I will be signing up again once my free trial is over. Why? Because I want to watch season 2 of See. There are other Shows on there that I haven’t gotten round the watching yet. However the second season of See is enough to make me sign up.

When people say "original" content, they are referring to "new" "original" shows, not shows that were original in 1970.

Aside from the massive library of older content, Disney+ will most likely continue to add all the new movies they have after they have a theater run, so this will add to their already massive library of quality movies and TV shows.

If one finds the content of Disney+ appealing, imo, it is by far the best streaming deal available right now.

I am not disagreeing with you, but I don't understand the appeal of Original Content. Personally, I care about content, original or not.

I guess the biggest appeal would be that actual original content would be a lot less likely to leave the service compared to non-original, but is this really that big of a deal?

*Not necessarily directed at you, but in the same vein as your post.

I'm interested.

Does anyone here actually believe once they have enough subscribers, who have been with Disneys service for some length of time, that they then won't gradually start to ramp up the price?
