What? I don't care about this.

What I do care is Lucas/Disney bringing Star Wars to iTunes. Come on already! I've been waiting for these movies forever.

No joke? Awesome. I hope they bundle the trilogies for good prices

Sorry if this is a dumb question but... does one need to install a new version of iOS every time Apple decides to add a new 'channel'? I've been on a v. old iOS on an ATV2 and like it that way, since it's jailbroken and runs smoothly (old interface style) with XBMC etc...

Originally you did, but not in the past 6 months. The new 'apps' just appear the next time you access your Apple TV. The 'apps' are downloaded in the background as long as the Apple TV is on.

Well, speaking as someone who cares, I'm disappointed if this is true, I wanted the remaining Clone Wars content on Blu-ray first. No doubt this will be US only at first as well. Bleh. Hopefully it will still get a BD release later.

Lord Vader, iOS may be getting a Star Wars app.
And?
Battle station plans are not aboard this ship.
And?
And no transmissions were made.
And?
An escape pod was jettisoned during the fighting.
And?
No life forms were aboard.
And?

Sorry I didn't mean to imply there were any announcements yet. But i wish. :p

Still can't believe these aren't on iTunes yet though. We have everything else Star Wars on iTunes except for the original saga films, like the CGI Clone Wars movie, the animated TV series, all of John William's soundtracks and even a huge collection of Star Wars books too. Just still no original movies yet :(

That's why I'm hoping under Disney, there will be a better chance for these films appearing on iTunes sooner. I would say worst case scenario is having us to wait until 2015 when Episode VII comes out before they decide to sell it digitally. But I'm hoping it doesn't take that long.

Yea a bundle deal would be sweet, as well as a slew of iTunes Extras too :D

Star Wars on blu-ray is what got me and many others to buy a blu-ray player. Making an app for only Apple TV will likely push a number of people to buy one just for Clone Wars and other exclusive content.

I hope this is true because I can't wait to see the conclusion to Clone Wars. Yoda and Order 66 arcs were completed and we need to see them!!

whats the issue anyway i there some kind of feud between lucasfilms and Apple that stifled this or something.

StarWars is laaaaaaaaame.

A StarTrek app, on the other hand, would be veeerrrry interesting.

A separate app just for a movie franchise?.. Really?

This looks like the beginning of a disturbing trend.

I disagree. This looks like the beginning of a great trend. No more unrelated content getting grouped together - get whatever content you want, and pay for just what you want, not thousands of other things you couldn't care for.

Give me a Disney Movies app and a South Park app and I'll be all set.

Wait, can't forget, need StarTrek and Big Bang Theory, too. And MythBusters. And maybe American Dad.

And then you end up with old school early day iOS with tones of virtual 'buttons', no way to sort or remove them efficiently, and where many have no use beyond the immediate term. Do you really want an AppleTV screen with a button for ever TV show being streamed by any content producer that can pay off Apple to let them have a button?

Down this road lies madness or a fully functional version of iOS with an App store and more. Hopefully we won't end with madness, but then again Apple has been kinda slow on getting usability features added to iOS and have been stuck in "hobby" mode on the AppleTV itself.

There are a couple things I just don't get with the AppleTV. I like the device. In fact, I have three of them currently.

1. Why does each "channel" need a new app? Really? My TV can switch channels without installing something new. I could get the Discovery channel without ordering a new part.

2. I don't get the whole "free content if you already pay for it through cable or satellite" model. I mean, if I already get that channel at home, why do I also need an Apple TV app for it? It's not like the Apple TV is a mobile device and I don't think too many folks take them to friends houses to watch content, do they? For me, I have not subscribed to cable for several years. There are a few channels I miss and would gladly pay for, buy I cannot. This option is not available without an expensive package from one of the leading service providers.

Apps for channels are so dumb. There should be, movies, tv shows, music and possibly pin subscriptions to the main screen.

I don't want to see star wars on my main screen. Apps like Onlive could work but not specific shows.
