Can I eat ribs and hover my hand over the ipad?

This is going to be a long summer for the Apple faithful.

How's the thermonuclear war going?

I do not know about y'all but I am quite excited about the possibilities of a new iPad mini with Retina Display.

I have a couple Apple gift cards burning a hole through my pocket. I want the iPad Mini, but I want to hold off until a retina display is released. I hope this happens sooner rather than later.

So, an analyst predicts what most people round here have already guessed? Seems reasonable enough but I wouldn't be too surprised if Apple holds it back if the technology isn't quite there. Specifically in terms of hitting the current Mini's size and weight while providing a retina display and extra oomph.

I expect them to move the annual iPad refresh to Sept as the iPad has largely replaced the iPod as the must have Christmas gadget.

They will probably hold an event early Sept as usual. Start with new iPods then move onto new Retina iPad mini and new design iPad.

"Display analyst" sounds like a fancy term for someone who goes around to people's cubicles and cleans their displays.

The iPad Mini will receive an update in Q3/Q4 this year, but I am not sure if Retina is as much of a possibility as we believe. Given what we know about the lower-than-usual margins and the horsepower required to drive such a display, it doesn't seem all that obvious. Perhaps something along the lines of IGZO changes that ballgame significantly?

As for the rumor regarding multiple releases, there is no evidence to support this. It should be clear by now that the iPad 4 was a one-time, out-of-cycle release meant to bring the Lightning connector to the entire iOS product line.

The new release schedule looks like this:

Spring: ?
Summer: Macs, OS X
Fall: iPhones, iPads, iOS

When Tim Cook talks about "potential new categories" and says, "Apple has some amazing new hardware, software, and services coming this fall, and throughout 2014", I believe he is telegraphing that Spring 2014 is when we will see the unveil of a new product category for Apple.

This makes perfect sense given the shifting that has been happening around the release schedule and the lack of updates this Spring. Put simply - they are preparing to fill that question mark on the above schedule. Updated iPad Minis are not it.

Please please please keep the revised ipad mini light. It's soooo beautiful in its current form factor, and weight has a lot to do with that.

"inflatable"?

No A6 no mini for me.
I already have an Ipad 2 A5//512Mb...so.
I don't think we will see Ipad's update till next fall and
for that
Mini will sport A6//Retina
and
Ipad5 will sport Quad (A6 or A7) and new design.

..and now analyst backtrack....are they backtracking their income as well?

Using your logic they can put out a better one now at the same price point in the first part of the year with better tech specs.

Then this fall, they release the Retina version.

Soooo then why haven't they updated the Mini now?

Because it doesn't make business sense to put one out right now. Obviously it wouldn't be enough of an upgrade that they feel it is worth it to put one out. Unless you know insider knowledge about Apple's development plans that I don't, of course, I'm going to go ahead and assume Apple knows what they are doing.

The Mini doesn't need a retina display.. All it requires is a boost to the RAM (a big boost!) and a processor upgrade and then it'll be the perfect device.
Remember what the retina did to the full size iPad? Made it thicker, heavier and hotter. The lack of those attributes is why I love the mini so much.

No matter what you say, when that retina mini comes out, you'll get it or at least wish you had one. IGZO will enable Apple to give us a 2nd gen iPad mini that's close to the thickness, weight of the first gen. You'll hold one at the Apple store and think it feels just like my mini, but your eyes will definitely let you know it's not. The 28nm A7 will also contribute to that confirmation.

I want an iPad mini, but I'm waiting for Retina. I've held out this long after getting an original iPad, and iPad 2, so I think I can wait a few more months.

They learned their lesson by bringing out an update right after (the 4)...they got a lot of flak from users.

Which users? Entitled iPad 3 owners? I think everybody in the market for an iPad was pretty happy about it! Although I'm still waiting for a 5... grumble, grumble...

What do you mean? The fact that they released an "iPad 4" 6-ish months later? Don't worry, my iPad 3 still works... and I still love it. ;-)

Not so fast. I was pretty pissed with it. At least with this rumor, no iPad mini this year for me. I'm ok with 1 year cycle but anything quicker than that is testing people's tolerances.

I'll take mini with 1gb RAM, A6, and 32gb min storage any day over retina version with similar specs because non retina one will absolutely fly.

Take a look at the minis screen and tell us it'll satisfy real needs beyond ones in your head. It's no different than those pixel peepers in digital photography.

I have 3g iPad so I know retina display matters for 9.7 inch screen but not 7.9 inch in real life use.

Got my wife a mini for christmas. I honestly don't mind the lack of a retina display. Was considering getting one of these for myself, but will likely wait for this thing to launch. At that point, I'll see if the first gen drops enough in price. If I can grab one for around $200 (used) I will go for it. Otherwise, will probably go for a retina version (assuming it is still at that $329 price point).

And according to this article the iPad mini retina's production could start earlier than expected
LG Display could start mass production of Retina iPad mini panels next month, analyst says

By AppleInsider Staff
Retina-toting iPad mini may enter production next month with LG panels, analyst says

Coming on the heels of a prior report regarding the production timeline of Apple's second-generation iPad mini, analyst Richard Shim from NPD DisplaySearch now claims that display suppliers like LG could start mass production of the rumored tablet's screens as soon as next month.

Shim told CNET late Monday that Korean firm LG Display, which already produces panels for the current iPad mini, will likely be responsible for a large portion of the Retina iPad mini's screens as Apple moves further away from component supplier and smartphone rival Samsung.

"Samsung is currently not in the iPad Mini and they won't be in the next generation. LGD is becoming a much bigger supplier than before," Shim said, adding that while other manufacturers will also supply panels, LG is thought to have the largest share.

The analyst also noted that the 7.9-inch Retina iPad will sport a 2,048-by-1,536 pixel resolution, exactly doubling the current model's specifications. Translated into pixels per inch, the expected resolution comes close to the iPhone 5's 326 PPI pixel density, and will be one of the highest seen on a tablet.

Shim said display production should start in June or July, an estimate consistent with previous rumors suggesting a third quarter iPad mini release.

Obviously V2 will have a retina display. I could have told you that the day the mini was released.

We are all analysts on here, we are here for leaks.

Why is it so obvious? The iPad 2 did'nt have it, the iPad Mini 2 might not have it either.
