Then, for YOU, the iPhone is better. But for others (ready for this?)...they may not own everything (or anything) Apple don't "give a flip" that the S9 doesn't work with Apple watch or HomePod or any other overpriced Apple device.
That's nice. I was stating my opinion and said nothing about its suitability for others. Note my frequent use of the first person singular pronoun "I" in my post.

If one person stating their opinion in context of their usage somehow grates on your nerves as badly as your reply indicates, then maybe you should reconsider spending time on public forums. It seems you may not be ready to be exposed to people holding opinions different from yours. Just sayin...

Considering Samsung makes the iPhone X's display as-well as their own for the S9 I'm not too surprised that their own phone gets the best panel they can make. I'm sure Apple would do the same if they sold any of their parts to third parties, withholding the best for yourself is just smart business.

Apple hasn’t been cutting edge in technology for at least 5-6 years now
Soooo true.

Like their AR features. I mean they aren't doing anything special just releasing AR kit to millions of devices. I mean Googles project tango is so much better. What? Never heard of it?

Or the Facial recognition. I mean Samsung already had 2D sensing and crappy iris scanners. But Apples 3D isn't cutting edge. 2 < 3 and lowers is better, right?

Or their processors. I mean being 1-2 years ahead of other chips ain't that cutting edge.

Or their iPads. I mean True Tone and 120hz ain't too cutting edge. There aren't phones (like gaming phones) that are doing 120 just now.

Or like the Apple Watch. I mean having a watch that can make calls and track your health data ain't that cutting edge. A watch that talks to your phone seamlessly and unlocks your Mac. We have Android Wear that... doesn't really do as much as the Apple Watch but Apple isn't cutting edge here. Ok you fan boys!!

Or the HomePod. Speakers have been done to death for ages now. I mean yea they throw some great sound in a very small footprint but that's not cutting edge!

I'm glad someone mentions the bezel on the x. Everyone seems to ignore the massively thick black line around its screen!

Yes, I was really surprised when I first went to check out the X at the Apple Store. I was thrown off by how thick the bezels were, since all I had seen up until that point were Apple's marketing photos of the X. Then I realized it's a clever optical trick- Apple adds lots of glare and light reflection to its marketing photos, which make the side bezels of the X appear to be really thin when in reality the bezel is more or less the same thickness around the entire phone.

Even the header photo of this article is disingenuous, since it's showing the S9 head-on, whereas the X is shown from the side, and of course with lots of glare. The X's bezels are not that thin.

And the X is faster, but benchmarks don't matter unless they benefit what you want to be better. Both are great phones use what you like.

The X is faster at it's highest clock speeds. But no phone uses highest clock speeds the majority of the time.

i personally am not a fan of OLED. Not a single OLED screen i have seen (including the iPhone X) looks natural to me. i cant really put my finger on it but it always looks like theres some weird film over the entire screen in my opinion.

either way, i am praying the X Plus will actually be wider. The notch and round edges add so much wasted space on videos. I just couldnt go back from the big Plus screen

The screen-to-body ratio on iPhone X is about 82.9%. The “all-screen” iPhone is 17.1% not-screen. The screen-to-body ratio on Samsung’s Galaxy S9 is 84.2%.

And the screen to body ratio would be even better on the S9 if it had a notch. Instead, it wastes space at the top of the display. *shrug*.

You do know what a processor is, right? Then explain how every A Series chip for the past 5 years is NOT cutting edge when compared to anything made by Samsung or Qualcomm.

The 9810 Exynos in the S9 is 6 wide. The A7 in the iPhone 5S was 6 wide. Looks like Apple was over 4 years ahead on that.

The iPhone 3GS had inline hardware encryption. The S9 might have this (I haven’t seen anything confirming it yet). If it does then Apple was over 7 years on that. If not, then we can add another year when the Galaxy S10 or Note 9 are released.

Do you know any phone manufacturer that has managed to shrink a Kinect down small enough to fit into your phone (like Apple did between the “notch”)?

There’s a few for you to think about.

Despite Samsung always being a year ahead and the better value. Even they have “done an Apple”this year too by not exactly setting the world alight this time around. But they too are being caught up by other Chinese Android Phone manufacturers charging a lot less and for more features.
.

Really? Samsung has been 1-2 years behind in SoC tech (among other things) compared to Apple for years now.

Can we all agree that both are still compromises to an all screen front. Both "solutions" are ugly imo.

I've been a big advocator for all screen phones going back to the xperia zl (seems like ages ago). Wake me up when this is the norm

I can't wait until the super low reflectance makes it to the iPad. It's improved slightly over the years but could be much better.

I rather have absolutely no obstruction when viewing a full screen video. And I watch plenty of videos on my phone.

The X gains extra space for what? A status bar that some previous icons can't even fit on it.

So glad all these new giant "phones" are coming out, I want a 9.7" one that I cant fit in my pocket, they could call it the "iPad". I remember when having lots of tech in a small package was cool, those were the days... :(

I didn’t read the thread, I’m guessing that DisplayMate is suddenly irrelevant.

They were irrelevant last year when they claimed Samsung had “color management”. Android only added color management to Oreo, so it’s impossible for previous devices to have it. And before someone pipes up about Samsung’s “modes” - that’s not color management. Far from it.

The S9 “should” have color management with individually calibrated screens, but we won’t know until someone tests this out.

How could someone that’s an expert at analyzing displays not be aware of the fact Samsung/Android devices didn’t have color management on previous devices?

I like the notch! The only stupid things in that photo is side curved glass on S9. No sense, just fun for distortions
Why would anyone actively LIKE the notch? It's a design compromise made because Apple couldn't fit the cameras under the screen.

Apple wanted a make full display phone, but in order to do that they had to add a notch. That is a paradox.

Seems to me there are trade offs like accidental touches and screens being more breakable.

Shocking. Now, watch the new iPhone in September have a better display. They will go back to back every time a new device is released. Win-Win for Samsung, though.

Facts:
1) Samsung makes the best screens.
2) Google devices have the best cameras.
3) Apple makes the best chips.

I'm not "embracing" it - but I really don't see how it matters. Once you've used the phone for a few days, you don't notice it. At all.

The vast majority of people who moan about the notch are those who don't own one.
This line again...

Of course they don't own one! Why would people buy a $1000 product that has a key "feature" they actively dislike? They wouldn't! Common sense, man.
