You should add that back ASAP and then it'll probably start giving FaceTime over unlimited... They can add it back within 90 days if you protest.

You should have kept it. LTE iPhones get FaceTime over celular w unlimited. There are rolling it out to lower ones too. I have it on my 4S since months ago.

--------
I need unlimited, I did 8.2GB of data on my last statement. Sometimes you get bored at the hospital while working and streaming services are great, but suck a lot of data.

Thanks guys, but nah. I use very minimal data so its cool with me. :)

I'm also almost always on WiFi and considering doing the same thing. The ability to have a hotspot is attractive when I'm on-call (and forget to get a hotspot from the office) or when the kids want to play an iPod game in the car or out somewhere.

I need to see how much cellular data I really use in a month.

Hotspot you need to pay $50 for it w 5GB of data. Lower plans don't have it.

My wife and I gave up our unlimited plans last year so we could get a family share plan with hotspot (wanted it for our iPads and my MBP while on the go). It wound up being a little bit cheaper for 6GB between the two of us but now we have unlimited talk/text and hotspot. 6GB is more than enough for us, even considering that my wife streams video almost everyday while at the gym (their wifi sucks).

As long as you don't stream outside wifi a 3GB data cap is way more than enough. I stayed around 2 before streaming and was actually considering getting the 2GB when I got my 4S, but I decided that I might stream stuff so I kept it. I think out of the people around me everyday there is only 2 more w unlimited out of 30.

Do you get it back because of a mistake on their part, or do you have a negotiating technique that works well?

The only way to get it back is if its AT&T mistake. If you changed the plan yourself you are sol.

That's exactly what happened - I changed my plan. Thanks!

Well it's my word vs theirs so make sure you point out that they made the mistake and that you would have no reason to drop your unlimited. As long as they see you had it, then didn't hopefully they'll fix it.

Edit to add: I've also switched to Android a few times and they switched my plan from iphone unlimited to smart phone unlimited and then back when I go back to the iphone.

Dropped it a few years ago since I never came close to 2GB. Highest I've been is about 1.7GB.

Just last week I jumped up to the 5GB/Tethering plan on vacation because the Wi-Fi was unusable in my motel room on vacation. Burned up almost 700MB while on vacation.

Now, that I'm back, I moved down to the 3GB plan since the 2GB plan isn't available anymore. When this month is up, I'll see if I can use the 300MB plan (since my work has improved the Wi-Fi, and doesn't require me to always accept their TOS). I still have my unlimited iPad plan, so if I want to stream in the car, I can use that.

You can try your luck if it was done recently and say the representative made me feel pressured into removing it. Companies can't pressure you into a new contract. Keyword.

Should I switch to a group plan?

My wife and I have four devices with unlimited plans. And two with 3GB data plans. Our two iPads and two iPhone are unlimited. As we have upgraded the iPads, we have given our old ones to my parents and put them on our account, buying each of them the 3GB data plans. My parents have no computer, thus no internet serviced installed in their home. So they burn through those data plans pretty quickly.

I wonder if it would would be worth it to put all six devices on a group data plan?

I still have it as I just don't see any major benefit to give it up. I haven't seen benefits in plans nor other companies. I'm typically around a couple gigs a month so I'll stay where I am for "just in case."

I'll hold onto it as long as they let me. This year, they didn't even try to force the issue when I picked up the 5S.

I've had it since the 2G, when unlimited data was far from necessary, but now it is indispensable.

I've had it on both my iPhone and iPad since they first came out. I've thought about getting rid of it since we have wifi at work now, but not much difference in price for me so I keep it. Nice thing is I can just let both devices use cellular data for everything, without worry.

We have 4 phones and 3 iPads. Three of us had unlimited. We were also paying $30/ month for data on the iPads. When the family share plans came out we evaluated our data use on the phones and on the iPads. We found that the most data ever used on all the phones combined was about 2gb. But we were always struggling with the iPads.

So we changed to a 10gb data plan. Now we have the right smount of data in the right places. Saved over $100/month, and that's not counting the times we had to add data to an iPad.

But I think this is only a good idea if you have more than one device and use more data one one of those than you have. Otherwise, unlimited is so nice because you never have to worry.

I rarely exceed 500MB to 1GB per month, but I keep my unlimited, because the FAN discount on my account reduces the $30 price to $24. The FAN discount doesn't apply to the 3GB for $30 plan, so it would cost me more to "downgrade"

If the 2GB for $25 plan still existed, I would have considered switching to that, since the FAN discount did apply to that plan, bringing it to $20.

Still have my unlimited plan and keeping it as long as I can. So Unlimited + Fan Discount is really why I stick around. Good deal for me. I use anywhere between 1gb-3gb of data monthly, on a few occasions, went as high as 4 or 5gb. I think it'll probably go up once I have an LTE phone. :D

The only thing I wish I had on it was tethering but it's not that big a deal.

Still unlimited

I got unlimited with 3GS, and kept it when upgrading to 4S. I placed an order for the 5S through AT&T's Premier site early Friday (it has been shipped and Fedex shows delivery scheduled for Monday 9/23).

Here is what my current At&T services list shows since placing the 5S order... The 11/12 date corresponds with the end of my billing cycle. I also have a FAN discount which brings it down to $22.50.

I actually willfully gave up my 3 unlimited contracts yesterday.

I know , I know...

But we had a family share with 2 regular phones (inlaws) + 3 iPhones, no one ever uses more than 1.5 gb.

Actually 1 of the IPhones never uses more than about 400meg.

By going to "mobile share" my price went up about $5, but data is now pooled (went with 6meg, since it was only $5 more than 3 meg) and now I can actually use mobile hotspot. (Which I will absolutely use)

So for me, we basically pay the same amount per mo.
But I now have HotSpot, and unlimited calling and not having to worry about what my in-laws minutes/texting/data is.
Also if i am traveling or something and I go over 3gb for the month, I don't get throttled to turtle speeds.
