Alright, I've had my new SR Blackbook since 2-3 days before Thanksgiving -- so roughly a month or so.

The keys and touchpad are SHINY and it is highly annoying. I make sure my hands are not greasy, I wash my hands before use most of the times, and I wipe it down with a micropad notebook cleaner & spray.

it is impossible to have the laptop look nice.

it is always smudgy, and the shiny keys are REALLY getting to me.

I wish under applecare I could exchange it, even if I didn't get m $150 because of the color.

wish I went white.

I've had a BlackBook since May 19, 2006. Never a problem, always washed my hands before use, and always washed the exterior of the laptop with just an undershirt and some water.

Had mine since August, still looks brand new. And yes I use the hell out of it. My wife calls it my "girlfriend."

I've had mine since Christmas day last year. Still looks great. Sure with lots of use the touchpad and keys get a little glossy. It's a tool, not a museum piece!

I love my Blackbook !!

Me too!! Seriusly I rather have some prints that a sverly scratched surface (yes thats what happens to the white ones) and the cracked material is also present in the white ones... I have proof of this, 3 whiteys in my class and 3 are very very very scratched (its just the nature of the material, very thin not so visible scratches that can easily be seen when against a light) and one has the cracking problem and its not first generation...

rubbish.

you must have some sort of extra greasy skin problem because my black MB hardly ever has smudge marks. and even if it does, the marks wipe off super easy.

oh, and by the way. no shiny keys on my keyboard either.

My blackbook gets some smudges on the shell but nothing even close that would make me want to give it up! Sounds slightly OCD too me.... :D

It might smudge a little bit, but it sure is durable.
I once accidentally had a big DC/AC inverter box (made out of thick metal) dragged across the top of the laptop creating a rather unsightly scratch.
I started rubbing it with my fingers and it disappeared. I've banged my laptop's corner against furnitures by mistake and I still don't see a scratch on the thing.

Every notebook gets this, even normal keyboards.

I've had my white Macbook for a month, and already see it.

I gotta look at it on an angle, and I'll see where I always press the space bar.

This cannot be avoided at all, unless you get some skin for your keys.

You can wash your hands all day, and then use your computer, it will not help.

Edit: Added pic.

My friend's blackbook looks all shiney.. I see where you are coming from, it definitely takes away from some of the beauty of the machine.

Oh my lord people, the keys aren't greasy, they're worn down from being used.

Mine isn't shiny at all, it has a tiny nick in it from where my hair clip (metal) fell out and landed on the bevel edge between the keyboard and the side but other then that, nary a blemish and I use it a lot.
