I've only ever lined up for the iPhone 4, but when the iPad 3 comes out, I may think about lining up for it. The experience alone is very fun, and you meet a lot of cool people. It all depends on if I actually have the time to do it or not.

I will be showing up extra early. Probably not overnight, but maybe 4am.

It's fun. It's part of the spectacle. What else am I doing from 4am on? Sleeping? Showing up early to work?

Can't wait.
I have no problem waiting from 4AM to store opening for it because I've lost sleep on much less exciting things. But the problem is that last year Apple pulled that 5PM launch garbage on us which is a lot more disruptive to (most) working peoples day.

If you're waiting in line by yourself, how are you able to go to the bathroom and save your spot in line?

Make friends or come prepared. I think I'd prefer to make new friends. :D

Or those of us who have lives/jobs! I plan on buying one, but I don't need to have it the very day it comes out. I can wait till the hype dies down.

Haha.. yeah for people who have BOOORING 9-5 jobs I will be a problem ;) ... Dont talk down to people when its actually YOU who are a restricted individual ;)

The iPad 2 was available for sale at 5pm on release day. I got to my local Best Buy at 4pm that day and was literally 3 spots too late. Although, I wouldn't have had much choice in the color/size towards the end of the line anyways.

If the iPad 3 is also released at a 5pm time, I plan to get there by 3, no earlier.

There's a better chance of waiting less if they release at 9am, right? I mean, normal people have work and school to go to. I work from home so I have the luxury of going to the Apple Store any time of the day so I really hope they release when the store opens.

I personally don't think it matters what time Apple release's their products. No matter what, there's always a ton of people and each one of them is thinking what you are..."don't these people have jobs/school?". :D

Lol, I already think that when I'm out during the daytime. I'll see someone jogging at 1pm and wonder what their deal is.

Yes some people do.

However, iPhone 4S had the fastest line service ever, and that was maybe 50% to 75% of iPad line (I went to a larger apple store, not the smaller one near me). So maybe Apple figured out how to deal with the demand now.

I que, but I would never camp, you just look like a absolute idiot. Tbh, there is no need for camping unless you want to be that annoying person that get's at the front of the que by waiting there 14 hours...

Now I've never camped out, nor would I, probably... but why are you so bothered about looking "like an absolute idiot"? Most people who camp out don't arrive til late at night, as I understand it, and there'd be no one there.

Sure a few people might see you in the morning, but only complete strangers who you'll probably never see again in your life.

Oh and to answer the question that most people have been answering, I'll be getting there probably about 3 or 4 hours before launch, whether it's a 9am or 5pm one.

good luck ... it bites to show up at 4am only to find 88 scalpers already lined up

I've only lined up for the iPad 2 and the 4S, the 4S Got there at like 3 in the morning (was not the best idea as there were only 40 people on the line at launch time so it didn't matter i was like 10th). As for the iPad 2, last year they started selling at 5 PM and i went after school and got there at 3. I was like 80 th in line, though i didn't get my specific model (i wanted a 16gb 3G AT&T, i got a verizon) i was happy. So depending when they start selling this year and what day it is ill just take off and just go at like 10 or 11. this is all assuming i sell my iPad 2 for a decent amount lmao.

I've always had far better things to do.

In your case the answer is to bring some $100 bills.

Just give one to the person in front & one behind you, and it's likely they will be glad to hold your place :)

I wish I could do that. When I went to the iPhone 4 launch, I went at midnight (store opened early at 8am), and there were already 60 people there. By the time the store opened, there were at least 600+ people in line. The line wrapped around the mall.

There's two new Apple stores in Southern Ontario now though, so the traffic will be a lot less since there's more stores to dissipate the lines...

I hope there's preorders. If not, I may show up at my Best Buy a couple hours before launch. I don't want to have to do that though.

I know how it was for iPad 2. If you didn't get it day one, who knows when you would be able to find one.

iPhone 4 launch was pretty awful. Apple figured it out for iPhone 4S launch.

For the iPad 1, I arrived at my bestbuy @ 7am when it was released at like 9am, first in line, though I noticed a couple people in their cars get out and line up behind me immediately after I got in line. My bestbuy had a full rolling book cart of them.

For the iPad 2 launch things were much different, I got there @ 4pm for 5pm launch. I must have been 50th in line out of 150 or so. They once again had a rolling book case full of manu different models. They worked their way through the line with vouchers for the iPads, guaranteeing it when you got to the front, I wanted black 32 wifi but had to settle for 3G one which I didn't need. Had a fun time tho.

This year I expect to arrive 3pm if Friday afternoon (driving directly from school) or go at 7am on sat morning if released then. Hoping for iPad 3 64gb wifi. (or possibly 4g if released)
