My big annoyance is what I call " Red Light Sleepers" at this darn left turn lights! To me during morning rush hour, at a big left turn onto the beginning of a parkway, and when that quick left turn signal turns green the first car goes then the second car waits at lest 10 seconds to turn left and the light is already turn yellow. So me about fours cars back and that always annoys me because the left turn signal has already turn red when I get to be next because a red light sleeper is a jerk!

Should be a $400 felony. Definitely dangerous

Nah things get congested around here too. It's just not as retarded or bad as east coast/Houston/LA

I remember drive through that little patch of hades during my PCS...

The thing that sticks out in my head about the finger lakes was that the boats outnumbered the people which is just about perfect.

I lived in Northern Virginia for 14 years before coming back to the Finder Lakes Region to help with my best friends newly bought radio stations! I came up with the "red light sleeper" slogan back on NVA's Route One north) turn onto Fairfax County Parkway (it has two lanes for left turn).

However during the summer months you will be surprised at the traffic when The Glen hosts NASCAR every year! This traffic along with the Summer Finger Lakes traffic and at some times these one lane roads around the lakes can have heavy traffic sometimes. Yes I along with many others have been trying press the State to widen the road from Corning's I-86 exit to Watkins Glen to be at least a parkway!

Nope, I seldom even carry a phone. I prefer to be off-line when I leave my desk.
I'd say many/most people carry a phone more for personal reasons than work ones (or at least just as much).

I saw an ambulance driver doing it on my way home from work tonight (and still looking at his phone as the light went green and he drove away). Says it all to me.

Even the more reason not to carry a phone, I reckon. If I want to talk to someone, I catch up with them in person. Much better to chat over a cuppa or a pint.

It's probably ****ed up to carry your office desk phone with you on the roads anyways.. Lol

I don't have a desk phone in my home office,or on campus; just a $20 Nokia that mostly sits on top of the fridge. $40 prepaid does me a year or two.

Until a few months ago, when they strung fibre through the neighbourhood, my internet connection was so called 3G mobile broadband, promising up to 7.2 Mb/sec, but delivering only about 5% of that on a good day.

I occasionally ask Siri to read and respond to texts (maybe a couple of times a year), and I use my car's voice recognition system to call someone once a day or so. If I have to do anything else on the phone, I pull over.

Yup. I see cops doing it all the time. Everybody does it. It's stupid to demonize it and fine people outrageous sums of money for doing it. I don't even get angry when I see cops doing it or something anymore.

I'm afraid I totally disagree with you. Driving a car requires a great deal of concentration to do safely. Looking at a phone whilst driving is incredibly dangerous - moreso for those others using the road than the offender. Even drunk drivers look at the road. Those who think checking Facebook is more important than looking at the road should most certainly have the book thrown at them.

Small coffee is trolling.

I don't check my phone at stop lights, as I don't have a smart phone.

What I have noticed is that many people who do have one pay an inordinate amount of attention to them.

I really don't want to be like that.

Idk. I think you guys just have this weird idea of what it means to "check your phone" while driving. Looking at or responding to a text message isn't any more distracting than changing a radio station, looking at a billboard, or whatever. If you're scrolling through Facebook (which is dumb because Facebook is dumb) then that's a totally different thing. Might as well read a book or something.

That you think responding to a text message is the equivalent of changing the radio station says it all. I only have to move my thumb to change the station; keeping both hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.

Nobody drives with two hands on the wheel.

And you usually look to see what radio station you're on, or moving to. Stop being pedantic. People do all sorts of distracting things, we're just demonizing mobile phones. It's dumb.

Yep, and they should be demonized...there are very famous incidents of large scale loss of life and property by texting. If you pick up your phone to text in a car I can only hope you get a nice large ticket. I don't really suppose there is a discussion possible here.

Oh well. Tickets don't discourage anything, they just take money from people. Laws aren't really enforced anyway so what's the point?

It's dumb…...

…...being a nobody who drives without two hands on the wheel, to be checking the radio for the radio station you're on, to do all sorts of distracting things including using a mobile phone, even a hands free one, while driving. Stop being ignorant. It's demons like these that cause accidents.

That's fine, just stop demonizing one particular thing over a bunch of other distractions.
