haha my phrasing sucks.

I guess I'm just saying that I like learning, and that claiming to be super-intelligent in any respect hinders that mindset, for me at least.

I have a lot to learn!
Nah it made complete sense I know exactly where you were coming from Saganomics :)! I was just giving you a hard time because if you know that you like the process of acquisition of knowledge more than the knowledge itself, then knowing you do would therefore be a bit of a disappointment ;)!

If you can understand that you're a genius! It's my phrasing (and awful humour) that sucks!

Ok, now that you've explained it I'll try to comprehend and understand it.
Think of it like this: If everyone assessed their skills properly, all three lines would follow the "actual test score" curve. However, the solid black lines (representing perceived capacity) show the lower half of society as perceiving themselves as qualified as the upper half (with their actual results lacking).

Genius would be like a Feynman or Einstein. They are extraordinarily rare.

As to booksmart, that's a learned trait and is probably lower on the scale than street smart, which is probably a gauge of someone's innate intellectual firepower. Get a street smart person and give them booklearning and they will probably trump all those who are just merely booksmart.

Well remember this poll is "Do you CONSIDER yourself intelligent" just cause they perceive themselves to be geniuses doesn't mean they are :p

A very common trait of historical geniuses is that they were often very unaware of everyday matters, and totally unaware of thier own intelligence being special. They just are, but don't know it.

A genius seriously impacts life as we know it and furthers a field with ideas never thought of before, and thus at the least are completely revolutionary. It's more than taking existing ideas and making a better mousetrap.

On one genius site I looked at, fewer than 25 people were named in the last 500 years. Perhaps fewer than 50 were named throughout recorded history.

If you invent higher math, your name may be Archimedes
If you invent philosophy, your name may be Confucius
If you dynamically change the way scientists perceive the physical world, your name is Einstein
If you know the rules of classical music, and say "To hell with that, I am going to make my own, and who needs to have hearing?", then your name is Beethoven

It should be recognized that there are several forms of intelligence: There's (as you say already) Street Smarts, there's the formal IQ smarts, there's social smarts (like being able to read people well)...etc.

I'd say I've got above-average intelligence but I'm smart enough also to not let it go to my head. I know a lot of people who are very much smarter than I am.

That said, I'm usually good at sizing someone up :))) but my street smarts suck most of the time... :)(). I think my strongest form of brain power is my memory - I have a very strong memory.

Child prodigy, chess grandmaster, airbus pilot, olympic fencer, nuclear physicist, michelin-starred chef and international woman of mystery... There's simply no room for doubt that I am an effing goddess-like genius. :D

airbus pilot

That's a sign of genius? Lunacy, maybe! This reminds me of a joke:

What's the difference between an Airbus 320 and a chainsaw?

About 200 trees per second!

Heheheh - I kid. I kid! My wife is watching me type this and smacked me upside the head. She flies the Airbus. ;)

You forgot expert iPod Hi-Fi carrying palmer offer.:D

Genius would be like a Feynman or Einstein. They are extraordinarily rare.

Someone made a distinction: There is ordinary genius and extraordinary genius. The ordinary genius is just like you and me, only much, much better. The extraordinary genius thinks in ways that normal people don't understand.
