Can't you just use SMS/MMS that's built in to whatever phone you use and not use a 3rd party app that they all must download? Or do you mean you will only have WiFi?

Well I am abroad, so sending international texts and MMS would cost a fortune for all parties involved.

Whatsapp nowadays has more importance than iMessages.....at least in my group of friends.
If Android every comes out with a true integrated alternative to iMessage (maybe even a cross-platform solution?) I will abandon iPhone
I thought it was called Hangouts ;)....well it still is.

I believe that Hangouts eventually will only be available for Business customers. There was an announcement about this earlier in the year.

I turned iMessage off when I upgraded to Sierra, as it made a new iMessage profile for some reason and Handoff stopped working, turning iMessage off and on was the fix.

That was in 2016. I haven't bothered to turn it back on yet, meh.

You didn’t have to delete the old one, just start a new one. I’m a Marine and I have numerous group chats with my Marines, some Android and some iPhone. I have the group chats broken down by rank, or special ones for passing word to a specific group of Marines. Anytime I need to add or delete someone from the group I just start a new one.

No reason to delete the old group. You solution makes no sense

That’s not my solution. That’s what actually had to happen. This instruction came from a Samsung rep at a local BestBuy.

And Your solution makes no sense. Start up brand new groupchats because 1 person has a **** phone ? No thanks. That shouldn’t have to happen. It’ll get confusing and frustrating starting up group chats all the time.

iMessage has it down packed.

Either way, he learned his lesson and came back to Apple and is a happy bee.

Oh and let’s not get started when someone with an android phone tries to send a picture or Video on there ( in the past ) it’s an instant Roast.

“ you just be on an Android with that Sony High 8 camcorder quality ! “ haha lmao

Can someone explain to me why the iMessage app on iPhone is GREEN, which represents the crappy Android messages, and not BLUE to represent glorious iMessage? And why is it BLUE on my iMac?

Are these guys asleep at the wheel?

iMessage is one of the sole reasons I stay on iOS. Honestly, if Android had an iMessage counterpart it would be more compelling to switch.

I understand a lot of people view it as just "texting" but the fact that it's being sent through a data connection as opposed to cellular makes it much more robust and capable. Back when my girlfriend was using a Samsung, sending long text messages back and forth would often get cut off, many messages would get swallowed and missed, and sending pictures/videos was such a terrible experience, I mean one photo at a time was okay, but sending multiple was a pain.

With iMessage, as long as you have a decent connection, I can fire away long texts, pictures, videos without any loss in quality and they send faster. Not to mention other things like URL previews and such, and Apple is only continuing to make it better.

It absolutely baffles me why Android hasn't developed a competitor or something similar yet, or something that works with iMessage.

Not sure Android has it or if there's an app for Android but I like how when I send a link of a YouTube video, you can watch it in the iMessage body and don't have to leave iMessage and continue to send texts back and forth while video continues to play.

Maybe the ability of having multiple apps open will allow watching the video and texting simultaneously on Android. I have an iPhone and I don't care what the color of the bubble is. As long as I get the text.

No. What I do not like the thought of is being cut off from Apple services and the ecosystem. I only communicate with a few people via iMessage anyway. Most of my contacts use what’sapp. My husband uses a Samsung phone. I can’t get him to switch back to the iPhone.

Although I don’t use it often I do like that I can send media to iPhone users without being charged.

No, I don't fear a green bubble, but losing the integrated environment, that is using messages on OS X, is a great tool, if I switch to Android, I lose that ability.

Great stuff.

At least 8 people so far.

Who thinks up these questions. I mean, just when I thought I’d seen it all you came out with this little gem.

Blows my mind people care or think about this.

Most of the world (other than US) use WhatsApp regardless of OS. I can't remember when I sent a text/iMessage.

Yep, with WhatsApp anyone can use whichever platform they like without possible changes introducing any major issues into communication.

Exactly. If that’s truly a concern then there are deeper issues. It’s a phone. Use it. Be concerned if you don’t get any text messages. Who cares what color they are.

I don't care about being a green bubble.
I do care about my other folks in group messages who incessantly text out of boredom. On an unlimited / grandfathered plan - there's still a charge for SMS. It's pennies, but it's annoying.

Lol didn't even know this was a thing. Most of my family has androids and I use Facebook messenger primarily. I switched to a Galaxy s8 but will be returning it for an iPhone 7 again.

International MMS/SMS could be quite expensive for the other person. Also, simplicity of integration helps. My grandmother (RIP) was able to use FaceTime. Skype, nope.

With iMessage and SMS forwarding enabled, I can send/receive messages on phone, tablet and computer. I don't really care if it's a green or blue bubble. All I care about is I can get all my messages regardless of what device I'm using (and really, I usually don't know where my iPhone is once I'm home).

Facebook Messenger - I'm not interested in friending everyone I need to contact.

WhatsApp, etc - Not all contacts will have the app and last I used it, it's limited to one device only. Can't use it on multiple devices.

If anyone judged / looked down on me for being a "green bubble" I would stop messaging and de-friend that person in real life, so I really don't care. That's just pathetic. I hate that Apple disables "send as SMS" by default in iOS. It creates so much confusion for people who don't realize they need to turn this on in order to receive all text messages.
Yes, this really. That option should be enabled by default.

Much better question than the OP's question lol

I think it has to do with when the IPhone first came out there was only SMS messages and then iMessage was released later but on Mac the messages app was released alongside iMessage with SMS coming later relating to their colours, Apple doesn’t like to change things drastically especially apps that have been with the system since the start it’s become iconic to the iPhone having the green messages and phone icons both of which have been the same since ios1
