I'm not talking about losing the benefits of iOS, I'm simply talking about the physical color of the message bubble.

Since you’re only talking about the physical color, then no, I’m not afraid of green in a message bubble. I’ll go ahead, though, and elaborate on what I do “fear”: paying extra for a texting plan. Most of the people that I text have iPhones, so I don’t incur charges from those texts. The few messages that I receive from Android friends only wind up costing a few extra dollars each month.

I don't care how other people see messages. Where I live most people don't even use iMessages. They use whatsapp.

I recently went back to Android after being sandboxed by iOS for the past 3 years . iMessages was the least of my concern when switching.

Theee are third party apps like whatsapp and hangouts that solve that issue. In fact you'll find third party apps are more functional than iMessages.
The difference is this is native. I don't need to change apps and ask all the recipients to do the same. Big difference.

How can you be paying to receive messages?

I’m pretty sure in the UK that receiving texts (and calls) has always been free, with any plan, but I guess carriers might work differently in different places.

If I'm not mistaken, in some countries charge is applied to SMS regardless of whether you're sending or receiving them. I've never understood that one, at least here the sender is always the one who pays.

That’s how it is in the US but I’m not aware of any post paid plans that don’t give you unlimited texts anymore.

Why care? Would your hipster buddies shun you if your bubble wasn't the right color?

Yep, here plans also typically contain enough texts to cover your typical use. Heavy texters are likely to use WhatsApp, FB Messenger or something else anyway.

No, but I will admit, when I see the green “text message” bubble I have this picture I’m my mind.....

Good luck, I hope you make it....

When yo I thought you’ve heard it all...

I often text people on Android. It’s unavoidable. I didn’t know this was some kind of taboo. How isn’t possible to only associate with others that have iPhones?

I don't fear that as much as not being able to seamlessly FaceTime with my brother and his kids and the easy integration of Apple TV. I've been a long time apple nut and I'm considering going away to the Note 8 or the Google Pixel 2. I'm genuinely worried. lol.
Don’t forget about airplaying music

I did not know this was a thing until reading someone say it here recently. And I was certain they were messing around but upon further review it appears they were serious. Does anyone really fear switching from an iPhone because you don't want to lose your blue bubble? I'm not talking about losing the benefits of iOS, I'm simply talking about the physical color of the message bubble.

Is it some sort of social stigma in the iOS community to be "green bubbled?" lol

"Green bubble" doesn't matter - what matters is seamless integration with laptop, iPad and phone. "Texting" from iPad and laptop are super cool.

If you are happy with your choices, and you are not harming others or engaged in self-destructive behavior, then I am happy for you.

With that said, I personally loath iMessage. So much so that I am giving serious thought to switching my work smartphone to Android just to get away from it.

iMessage and similar messaging applications will not work over my employers network for security reasons. So if I have iMessage enabled and I'm on WiFi at work, my texts won't come through until I am off of the WiFi in the evening.

I've turned iMessage off on my work phone, but it occasionally gets activated on one of my personal iDevices by accident. This can occur when I am setting up a new device or restoring a device to factory settings.

Once this happens Apple's servers start to route all texts associated with your Apple ID to your iPhone through iMessage. If you don't have iMessage enable on your iPhone, you don't get text messages.

I like Apple for personal use. But for work purposes I am seriously considering switching to Android.

This is just my US$0.02.

Nope. I only use iMessages with ONE of my contacts. And even then, not always.
+90% of my messages are on fb messenger. Then WhatsApp with my family. I barely use iMessages.

I really don't see this as an issue, yes iPhone users will think "what a 'peasant', must have Android" but so what? Do you really want them as friends?
Also, if most of your friends are iOS it's nice to be difficult, guys like girls that are 'different' and same, girls they like guys who are different, although maybe not so much as guys like girls that are different, in my experience!:)
Warning may have to read last bit twice!

I went down a social class or two. I am a plebeian now in the texting world.

Jokes aside, I am in a group chat with android / iphone users. We are all able to send / receive gifs, memes, videos, etc no problem. However, the only problem is, at my work, cell service is horrible. So, jumping on wifi and being able to text other iPhone people works no problem, but the group chat with android users does not go through.

I wish WhatsApp was more accepted and used in the US, but iMessage takes the cake here. Also, I don't have a facebook so that rules out the messages for that.
