Feels guilty as in.. I would be the meal.

Seriously though, I feel guilty after putting a 100 miles on my car, maybe. But geez, it's a laptop! Just use the freakin' thing, and replace the battery in a year or two.

ps. ppl who seen twilight would get the first sentence.

soooo lame :( Lasts only an hour max.

Would contacting apple help in this situation(still under manufacturer warranty)? 144 cycles shouldn't drop the capacity down to that level :/

I don't even look at how many cycles my battery has, so to answer the OP's question - No i don't feel guilty. I bought my MBP to use, not to store on a shelf and admire.

That's what my G4 cube is for :D

I finally put a cycle on today.... 51 days it took.
They will probably be put on more quickly now. In the past year, I have put on about 100 cycles but I had to get a new battery, my old one died and I stopped using it since I got my new one - but I'm sure I will begin putting more on now.

Yeah, it's because you only put on 100 cycles that your old one died most likely. A cycle every day or two is a good pace.

You're right, it shouldn't.....unless you constantly have it plugged in, which from your picture it looks like you do. You probably just "burned out" the battery. That slang isn't meant to suggest heat or anything, it just means that you are not letting current flow through the battery which slowly kills the cells.

My iStat tells me I have 34 load cycles so far. I've had my MacBook for about 6 months, maybe a little longer, and I think I've kept it charged pretty well most of the time so far.

Yeah, you're going to want to stop doing that. Use it or lose it, as they say.

actually, can you use a macbook without a battery (while plugged in)? What would happen if you accidentally unplugged?

Yes. But oddly enough, the CPU will downclock (at least it does on the MBP). Most other manufacturers you can run your laptop just fine off the battery and it doesn't downclock the CPU.

What would happen if you accidentally unplugged?

What happens if you pull the plug out of a desktop while it's running?

My MBP is 14 months old, has 103 cycles, and only 54% health on the battery.

Until 2 months ago you were entitled to a new battery under warranty. Apple says that at 300 cycles you should have at least 80% health (which obviously isn't the case with you :p) and that if that's not the case then they consider that battery to be faulty and will replace it. Not sure how your luck would be now that it's out of the initial year...

My mother's PowerBook is almost 4 years old, has only 30 cycles and maintains a 1hr 45min charge. She basically never used it away from her desk
and definitely doesn't to through a full cycle every month. I think it's pretty amazing that her battery still holds any charge at all. Just FYI.

C'mon, guys, give the guy a break... :D I recently replaced the battery on my MBP, and with a shiny, new 100% baby in there, with no cycles yet, I kept just staring at my MBP like it was a new, untouched thing. I was very tentative to pull it off the umbilical cord, fearing a rapid sense of "used-ness" would befall my fantasy woma.., err, I mean... heh, battery! Once I tried her though, she bounced back really well... and I knew I was in for some good cycling in the days ahead...! ;) To the OP, I say just give it a try. Be gentle at first, but you just don't know what you're missing otherwise... and it's great exercise for your battery, to boot.

Did I tell you that my macbook is jealous of the Air? She's sad because she isn't as slim as the Air, but I keep on telling her I don't go for those beanstalk types anyway. Think by now she got the message. :)

you know your macbook slows down if u use it without the battery in it?

yes but not if you use it on adapter w/ batter what OP does.
I am a student too. I just always take my charger with me and don't use my MBP unless there is an outlet available.

im a student too. i always take my charger with me too. and i usually shutdown my computer rather then sleep it when its gonna be at least 60minutes of pause between use.

but i DO use it without a charger. i make 5-10 cycles per month.. ive had mine since december.
but its not my main computer. id probably have more if it was my main computer. and ill have more over the summer break when ill be using it more outdoors. :)

but if i know im gonna leave it be for a week, i surely discharge it to at least 70%.

its in the manual that battery needs to work in order to keep health, if not it dies fast too.

Battery dies way too quickly, fail. I have applecare, maybe I could get this replaced?

Batteries are only warrantied for a year, so that may be a stretch; AppleCare may help, but you'll need to consult the Genius or AppleCare.

I have never really thought about it to be honest. I just use the mbp and if a cycle gets put on then that it what happens. :)

I had a similar problem with my battery and Apple told me it wasn't covered under AppleCare as it was a consumable, but that they would replace it out of goodwill anyway. I had already had it replaced once in the first year too, so they said that though they'd do it this time, they wouldn't be replacing it again!
