Hi,

I'm just wondering if I'm weird or not...

I have a 3rd generation iPad and love it, but after extensive use or after an hour or two of web browsing I kind of get fatigued with the experience and go back to my old reliable MacBook Pro.

Does this happen to you? I can't explain it, but I just fatigued...

But I want to note that I am grateful that I have it, I never want to come off as ungrateful for what I have.

The iPad is good for one thing: BED USE - bed reading, bed watching, bed surfing. It is about the most useless gadget I own. It's too big and heavy for the train. Two small for actual work. Too limited for actual essay writing. I prefer any laptop over the slow web surfing present in the iPad, and since I bought the new macbook air with 14 hours of battery life, I have barely touched my iPad.

I completely agree with the bed use part. That is where I use mine the most, mostly for reading. And I also agree with using it for work/typing. But as far as travel goes, I think it's great. If I go anywhere that requires a wait (doctor's office, DMV, travel), it comes with me. While out of my 3 Apple devices, my iPad is the least used, I wouldn't say it's useless.

They make a good office and when on the road TV :) I spend 2.5 hours a week waiting for kids having music lessons.

Not really. Though sometimes, I do come across a thread in a forum I want to reply to, but when I realise how long my response might be (I have been known to type 6-7 paragraph answers), I groan inwardly, and make a mental note to craft that response on my macbook when I get the chance. I am not going to do all that work on the ipad.

I rarely use my macbook at home; and I rarely use my iPad at work.

But, I have both with me at both places. When I get home and I've been on a computer all day, and I just want to zone out reading stuff on the internet that evening, the iPad fits the bill perfectly. Getting the laptop out feels like I'm about to do work.

Looking forward to upgrading my iPad3 to an iPad5.

This is exactly what I feel when using wife's ipad, that's why I never got one.
Still prefer using mbp, I feel so cramped by the small screen, so slow using virtual keyboard, and not used to no windows for multitasking.
although still planning to buy ipad 5 as my 1st ipad, just for reading ebooks and quick emails, but everything else will be done on the mbp :)

Nope! I have Ipad 3 and love the thing. I take it everywhere; work, gym, coffee shops, but get main play on my couch..If I had to get rid of either my Macbook or my Ipad, the MB goes!

Completely agree. I read lots of screenplays, so I'm one who could truly benefit from an iPad, but I still have a hard time finding a place for it in my life. I don't mind reading on the iPhone. And with the new Haswell rMBP will have a decent battery increase anyway.

I guess I'm in the same boat as the rest of the people in this thread.

Not really fatigue but I can't hold it for to long before my hands start hurting. My case also adds a good amount of weight so it's not only the iPad that's heavy, unless you guys use it with no case.

I really tried to give my iPad 3 a shot at being my goto device, but I simply cannot. I got iPad fatigue shortly after the novelty wore off.

My main reason is screen size & input. Too big to really be a device that I take everywhere. Too small to get any real work done. I'm a faster than average typist and typing on the iPad is inefficient for me. Even web browsing where I'm copying and pasting with multiple tabs open is clunky.

My MBA is just as portable and much more efficient with windowed multitasking.

I truly believe that a tablet should be portable and why I feel that the smaller tablets is the sweet spot. Yes Jobs was wrong. My Nexus 7 goes everywhere with me and gives me a good tablet experience plus I'm actually very fast at typing with swype! My girl totes her mini around while the iPad 3 is rarely used and will probably be sold soon.

gym..... Really....?

I do all the time. I love my iPad, but there is something about the size, ease of use, and the comfort of being able to use my laptop. I use my iPad as a supplement to my PC. Like searching or researching one or two pages that aren't in-depth enough to break out the computer and boot up.

When I had my iPad, I was also fatigued from using it. For me, it was all due to finger fatigued from tapping on the screen, unlike my MBA, where there is flex when typing onto keys. Also, from holding it and typing at the same time. My MBA was far more comfortable.

This is why I sold my iPad.

It is somewhat redundant to own a MacBook (especially an Air) AND an iPad.

I did the same, the advantage of a MacBook, besides the screen size is that it can stand on it's own, so if you want to watch a movie in bed or on the go it will stand without having to touch it. And yes, I know there are cases that do that but they're not as stable as a laptop.

Also, getting tired of the on screen keyboard is normal. I don't find it much easier to use than an iPhone keyboard, I guess the problem not so much about size but about the physicalness (or lack of it).

I keep thinking about buying an iPad, especially because I really loved it as my little portable jukebox, but the 64GB version is 700$ and the 128GB one is 800$, I could get a MacBook Air for another 200$ and I know I will have a better device.
Will you have a better device? Portability is worth something.

I myself typically use my iPad while I am on my 13 rMBP. I also use my iPad when I am not on my 13 rMBP.

OP, yes. I am right there with you.
As a blazing fast typist, I get very annoyed typing on an iPad :p
Still love my trusty MBP.

The best cure-

Go into the App Store and download apps. When I was a bit bored with my iPad, I just went into the App Store and started downloading apps like crazy! Cured me for sure...

Absolutely! I find I need to hold the screen a bit closer and, with all the light cast by the iPad, it fatigues my eyes. Also, I prefer the trackpad to the touch experience. A physical keyboard is nice too. Yes, I have the $100 top of the line bluetooth keyboard, but using it still is not as satisfying and if i need it a lot, I'd rather use my MBP, which is only a bit heavier than the keyboard/cover connected iPad.

I love both devices, but the iPad experience is much more fatiguing to me. I use ios7 and have turned off parallax and lowered the brightness b ut it only helps a little.
